I have spent much of my academic and professional career in counseling and mentoring children who struggle economically, emotionally, mentally, and physically. I have been formally trained as a crisis counselor and am eligible for a counseling license. Currently, I work as a mentor for students in their career planning. As an after-school leader, I was responsible for creating lesson plans and activities that would engage students creatively and promote critical thinking. My dedication and patience have helped me to address and cater to my student’s needs. I found through my experience as a counselor that building rapport and having empathy for my clients not only helps them to feel heard but addresses issues with the intent of resolution. I am a compassionate and hardworking person and thus strive to find methods to connect with students and their families that help build the support they need for their emotional and career development.

I have one year of teaching in Korea already and I am currently located in Daegu. I'm very patient and and can work with all ages. I prefer to make activities fun and like to especially focus on pronunciation.

I graduated in 2018 with a BA General specialising in Psychology and received my TEFL certificate in 2021. I have also just completed my Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, specialising in Life Orientation. I am awaiting my certificate.
Because I have been studying since 2015, I do not have any formal teaching experience. I have been tutoring primary, high school and university learners since 2018 in various subjects.

I am a hard worker and truly put a lot of effort in my studies and my work as tutor. I have always wanted to work with children and believe I would make a great teacher because I am compassionate and patient, but also not scared to be a little bit silly if it means I get learners to engage. I believe that every child or person should be given the opportunity to achieve their best, and I could help guide them.

I speak English and Afrikaans, and I can speak French on a B1 level. I have basic computer skills. I am proficient at lesson planning, and I have good problem-solving skills, leadership skills, working well with others and I am adaptable.

I have taught English for 2 years from the middle of 2019 to the middle of 2021 at Chungdahm Learning in Seongbuk-gu. Teaching during that time period allowed for experience in-class as well as online. As we had students on the waiting list during peak Covid times, I believe that my particular hagwon was of the highest teaching and learning standards.
I learned everything about teaching and hagwon operations. During my time at Chungdahm, I was required to create materials such as projects, homework, exams and other course-related content. I also became quite involved with the desk teacher and parent interactions. At one point, I was asked to privately tutor one of the top students for her interview at a top-10 world-renown business school in France- she was accepted!
I have a great empathy for my students. Perhaps my greatest passion is getting to know and understand people. Usually, I like to build relationships with the younger students because they have much more to offer. They normally don’t try to hide any opinions or information that they might be judged about. But, every student is also equal unless they break the classroom rules and reasonable punishment is acceptable.
Outside of teaching, I try to stay disciplined. I like to go to the gym everyday, usually before work. Minimum 2 hours. Cooking at home is also a daily routine. Meal prep for me is always very important and healthier than eating out.

Teaching has always been a calling for me, and my decision to transition from a marketing career to education is driven by a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others. The idea of immersing myself in the unique culture of South Korea has always appealed to me. I have also completed a 120 hours TEFL course with a 20 hours TEFL practical course.
