I have over 20 years experience teaching English and have worked with all ages from 5-adult and all levels. Thanks to my degree in Linguistics and my experience, I can confidently explain all aspects of the English language such as grammar and phonetics. In addition to teaching, I have led and supervised several extracurricular activities and excursions as part of my job.

I am a friendly and open person and enjoy meeting people of all different cultures. I like to build a good rapport with my students and remain friendly but professional. I have a clear voice and can adapt my language to suit the different levels of learners. I enjoy working as part of a team and sharing my ideas with others.

For differentiation, I always have extension tasks on hand for the stronger students/faster finishers and scaffold the weaker students with closer monitoring and pairing them up with stronger students. I have used a variety of techniques for assessment, for example written and spoken tests, feedback sessions, tutorials and homework. I have participated in several CPD sessions and peer and formal observations during my previous employment.

I am very flexible and willing to take on extra hours/cover work when required. I am also enthusiastic to help with activities and excursions, and have previous experience of both, as well as pastoral care duties at residential summer schools. I think it is important to be punctual and professional at all times and complete all administrative tasks on time.

I have practical experience supporting young learners through recent volunteering in local schools and leading activities at children’s summer camps. I hold a 120 hour TEFL certificate but do not yet have formal EFL teaching experience. As this would be my first EFL teaching position I would be very grateful for the initial training on offer.

My ambition is to forge a career as an English teacher, with an emphasis on older children and young adults. I am especially passionate about teaching at secondary level or above. To initiate this journey, I successfully completed an online Level 3 Award in Education and Training course, as well as a TEFL course through The TEFL Academy. I am currently studying at The Open University, and by 2027 I will have obtained a degree in Childhood & Youth Studies. I am now eager to obtain more practical classroom experience and further refine my teaching skills by applying the theoretical knowledge I have acquired. I am enthusiastic about creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment where students can enhance their confidence and language skills.

I have worked extensively in interpersonal jobs including camp counsellor positions in which I have worked with children ages 4-15 and retail positions in which I have served customers with many different levels of English. Additionally, I have participated in the creative planning of events such as camp activities and Ontario Youth Parliament, an event for youth ages 14-21. Finally, I am very flexible, punctual, and proactive, as any of my references will tell you.
