My background in psychology and human development has taught me a lot about people and how they learn as well as why they make the decisions they make. My greatest strength is that I have thirteen years of experience with children, both in a personal setting as well as professional. I have experience teaching English to students in Kindegarten, Elementary school and High school. My teaching journey started when i was in highschool as i took part in a school based work experience programme, from there i went to university and wualified to become and English teacher and this year i gained a ESL teaching certification. Through my experience i have devoloped a multitude of classroom management strategies and teaching techniques to create child centered lessons. I am hardworking, resillient and good working as a team but i am also capable of working indepepndently.

I am Robyn Srimarthandan. I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and have completed my education in Political Sciences at the University of Toronto. I also specialized in East Asian Studies and am fluent in Japanese with working level knowledge of Korean as well.

I have previously studied abroad in Japan and was a Canadian Ambassador at my school through the YFU (Youth for Understanding) Program and taught my classmates English. Since then, I have gained a passion to share the English knowledge with others and also currently teach English to ESL students on a language exchange application called HelloTalk. Currently, I am also working as an Economic Analyst at the Consulate of Japan in Calgary and am professional in business English as well.

I consider myself to be very open, friendly, and kind. I am able to adapt to problems easily and take constructive feedback very well. I work well with many age-groups and have been told often that I am able to light up a room with my persona. If it helps, my MBTI is ENFJ and I find that this accurately describes who I am as a person as well.

I have a variety of skills but I would like to point out that I am highly organized, communicative, and analytical. I am able to organize many projects and tasks at once and in this case would be able to follow my student's learning and report accordingly as well. I am also very communicative and would never hesitate to contact someone if required or connect with people. I am also analytical, so I pay attention to details carefully and avoid mistakes as much as possible.

I am an incredibly hard working, loyal and dedicated employee.
I learn easily and relate well cross culturally.
I have worked with children in many different capacities for many years and have a skill of relating to children, including them and adapting learning to fit their understanding yet taking them further in their learning. I am currently doing a PGCE to qualify as a teacher in Foundation Phase Education although I have taught children the Bible and Life Skills for many years. I have also worked full time as Home School curriculum tutor for 3 years.
I have almost completed my TEFL training and am learning alot about English and am excited to work as an English teacher in a school environment while I continue to study.

Being an adaptable educator has allowed me the opportunity to educate a wide variety of students from various backgrounds and all facets of society. This is shown in my background in teaching in different countries such as South Korea, Thailand and South Africa. I am also comfortable teaching at any level as I have experience with all levels. As a result, I aim to be a teacher that focuses on each student’s individual needs such as different learning styles and focusing on the interactions in class to encourage and facilitate growth.

I have extensive experience in planning lessons, preparing and decorating the classroom, creating STEM activities, arts and crafts, writing reports, evaluating students’ performances, creating and marking tests, having telephonic conversations with students, online lessons and online lesson planning, administrative work, planning events such as Christmas concerts and other teaching duties.

In terms of my teaching style, I am open to all forms of teaching and like to focus on students’ different learning styles – especially visual learning. The activities and lessons are planned according to the students’ levels and the material to be taught. For younger learners, I like to incorporate many play-based activities and group discussions or structured debates for the older learners. I am a native speaker and have a clear neutral accent.
