I am lucky to be the kind of person who can get along well with others and relate to any age. I am also a very open-minded individual, especially if it piques my interest or gives me a chance to learn something new. I am very flexible and capable to adjusting quickly to any given situation.
I have been a part of the Girl Scouts of America since I was 6 years old and continue to participate by helping lead troops of young girls. Girl Scouts taught me how to be a leader. It has always been a privilege to help inspire the next generation of girls to take on challenging tasks make a difference in their community, and become leaders.
Through working with Girl Scouts of America and as well as working as a private nanny I have been able to work with many amazing children, each unique in their own way. This has taught me how to be adaptive while working with others to adjust to their individual needs so no one gets left behind.
One of my biggest experiences that I want to mention, that I did not expect, was when my professor asked me to teach for his classes. He did not like the subject of Statistic nor did he understand it well, it was a section in the curriculum though. He asked the class if anyone had taken Statistics before taking his class, which was research methods, and I was the only one who spoke up, so he had me teach the class and him the subject. After class he asked me if I had the time to teach the unit to his other classes, I agreed. It was one of my most enjoyable experiences and it got me interested in teaching in the future.

The majority of my recent work experience is based in the legal sector working and assisting solicitors after completing my law degree. However, while studying I gained a lot of experience working in retail and in various bar jobs. I also have experience as a football referee which may be of particular use when teaching young children as I was refereeing mainly youth football. So I have some experience of managing children, being clear and also flexible in my approach to ensure they understand.

In terms of my personality, I am a very calm individual. I am clear and understanding as well as fair. I am a good listener and communicator – these are things I believe will stand me in good stead to be a very strong teacher. Not to mention, I have an extremely firm grasp of the English Language developed through my academic studies as well as in my leisure time as I am a very keen reader of non-fiction books. My other passions include sport, music, comedy and travel.

Having already taught English in Vietnam for one year and learning to thrive in a new culture, I would consider myself an ideal candidate for a teaching role in Korea.

Whilst working for Binh Minh Education in Hanoi, I taught English at schools across the city, to students ranging from Kindergarten to Secondary level, and gained a wealth of classroom experience in this time.Teaching a class of five infant students in a morning, to over 50 crammed into a room that afternoon, means I had to adapt how I teach, and switch mentally between styles. As such, I’ve learnt to use my initiative, and most importantly, be a friendly, patient mentor to my students.

Though classroom sizes in Hanoi have taught me how to manage a large number of students, teaching online for the past several months with Palfish and Education First has allowed me to perfect a one-on-one approach. Only tutoring one pupil at a time gives me the opportunity to develop teaching methods that large class sizes don’t always give scope for, and try new things depending on the student’s level and needs. For example, using a number of drawing, writing, and listening activities to gage an individual’s learning style.

In addition to teaching experience, studying English at university has given me an in-depth knowledge of the English language, and how to use it creatively when planning lessons and activities for students. I further combined this love of language and teaching when writing content for the renowned i-to-i TEFL course providers. Writing articles such as “four top tactics to keep your students engaged” and “fun ways to get your students learning about the environment” cemented my passion for teaching, and it is this level of commitment and professionalism that I am eager to bring to a school in Korea.

With nearly two years of experience teaching English as a second language, English bachelors degree, and a desire to experience the vibrant Korean culture, I believe I am an ideal candidate for this role.

Dear Sir/Madam.

I am currently in the final stages of my MA in Postcolonial Studies at University of Kent’s school of English. With an undergraduate degree in BSc Social Sciences. During my time undergoing both these programmes, I have covered literature and research pertaining to social inclusion policy, group psychology, and literary theory. Therefore, my interests include the arts and culture in retrospective to social policy and the social sciences.

With my current position as an English literature and language tutor for French-native students, I have experienced a different culture of teaching, in addition to my teaching experience in Kabale, Uganda. This has introduced me to a different set of challenges, in terms of communicating and developing material for students who have a low-level proficiency of English and experience with a different learning experience to what I am familiar with. I have overcome these challenges, by adapting my teaching style to my students and their interests, and researching material that would inspire and assist them with their learning experience.

Previous to my current experience, I have worked as an ESL lead within a primary school in the Sultanate of Oman. My role included: Teaching English as a second language and providing support for students with English language deficiency. I also had the responsibility to develop intervention strategies to help second language English speakers. and also providing support to teachers with classroom intervention assistance for second language English speakers.

I have worked successfully as a student ambassador, acting as a liaise between the University and potential students, and working in an administrative role. I have worked with social-development projects and schools in Kabale, Uganda with a number of teachers and project leads to develop a number of educational and development programmes for young people within the district. I have assisted in delivering English literacy workshops with young people who have adopted English as a second language.
I have further expanded these skills with an education-sports based charity in London, UK as a project assistant. Again I have worked alongside education and project leads in developing programmes, skill workshops and project based learning activities with young people aged 13-15 and as a liaise between the organisation, stakeholders, schools, and other projects.

Having worked in Shanghai, China for two months also allowed me to push myself beyond my comfort zone to acclimate to a new country in a short span of time. For the past year i have taught in public schools and private education centres in Hanoi, Vietnam where i have accumulated nearly 1000 hours of teaching contact time. My main experience is with primary age students within the Vietnamese public school system where i teach classes that range in size from 40-65 students. I have excelled in creating fun and stimulating teaching environments from my students in which i received lots of praise from my Vietnamese assistant teachers. On top of teaching time i was required to prepare weekly detailed lesson plans for all my classes which were always completed on time and to a high standard. Outside of public schools i taught at private English centres where i taught students who were aged 12-17 years and so i developed lots of different teaching styles and exercises that are relevant to different aged and able students.
I am a very outgoing, personable and fun-loving person and i always bring these elements into my classrooms, which i have found enables me to keep students engaged. I always do my best to help my students and fellow teachers whether that is in the classroom with specific work exercises, outside of the classroom with extra-curricular activities or just spending time engaging and getting to know the people i teach and work with. I have had lots of different job experiences with a wide variety of people which has given me the ability to easily work with colleagues from different cultures and who work in different styles; i have found this helps me gets settled into a new place and job. I am highly focused and have a great work ethic which enables me to complete tasks on time and to a high standard.

I am a highly dedicated and innovative individual within the Education sector. My current title is a Behaviour Mentor in a Key Stage 4 Pupil Referral Unit – Brent River College. I support the students in their lessons academically and emotionally as well as 1:1 mentoring sessions. Within this role, I complete student reports; interim and end of year reports, data analysis reports as well as regular updates with parents about their child’s progress. I work closely with The Designated Safeguarding Officer, Educational Welfare Officer and the local Police Department. The PRU has an ethos of developing positive relationships through the use of Restorative Practices to manage behaviour and to support every child to achieve. I have demonstrated this in my current role by deploying effective behaviour management skills in my interactions with the students. In order to be able to manage the demanding environment of working in a SEBD setting, I have developed my flexibility and resilience.

I have experience in planning and delivering lessons, ensuring understanding and progress. I have the skills to manage a classroom as large as 60 students within a range of subjects with effective behaviour management. Within my role as a Trainee Teacher, I was responsible for ensuring that suitable academic provision, inclusion and intervention within the subjects were provided to all students. I followed the Schemes of Work and tailored to the needs and targets of each class.

At this stage of my career, I have already been judged as a 'very good' classroom practitioner providing high quality teaching and learning with some ‘outstanding’ features. I have taught students between the ages of 11 and 19 in a number of multicultural and ‘Outstanding Schools’. My personal philosophy of teaching and learning is that each pupil is an individual and that my role of the teacher is that of a facilitator, guiding pupils towards a path of autonomy and scholastic excellence. I strongly believe that all students need to have a good functional ability within the written and spoken medium of English in order to succeed throughout their daily life, into adulthood and the world of work. Being that the English language is a globally spoken language and the first language spoken in many countries worldwide; young people today need to be equipped with the skills to be proficient enough in English to compete on the world stage.

I, unfortunately, did not complete my Teacher Trainee with Ark Burlington Danes Academy as there was a bereavement in my family and had to temporary relocate. On my return, I was carrying out Supply Teacher and Cover Supervisor roles, which then led me to becoming a Behaviour Mentor at Brent River College. In this role, I would support but also teach small groups of students as well as 1:1 sessions. Due to the positive feedback in my role, I am now undergoing a Life Coaching course as I feel this would support and progress in my chosen career path. I have a TEFL/TESOL certificate as I am dedicated to the next step in my career and journey in life.

One of my professional strengths is the ability to reflect on my practice in a professional manner, to ensure that my teaching pedagogy and practice is broadened and improved. I am committed to take part in professional development activities outside of normal school hours. As part of my CPD, I attended a number of CDP sessions, Twilight INSETS and external courses focused on tracking pupil progress and having ‘Every Lesson Outstanding in English’. I am a reflective practitioner and I am keen to seek advice from others and engage in professional discussion about teaching and learning. By furthering my professional development, I developed excellent relationships within the department and made a valued contribution to the school as a whole by cascading important information and sharing ideas on good teaching practice.

This wide range of experience has inspired me to continue to develop my career in an exciting, fast-paced setting. I have an enquiring style of teaching and I am able to bring creativity, enthusiasm and forward thinking to any role. My ability to take risks in my teaching means that I am constantly striving to get the best from the young people I work with and develop my own practice in light of emerging pedagogy.

I am a recent graduate with a degree in English, Language and Education (Industrial), and am currently looking to make a permanent move to Seoul to start my career in teaching.

As part of my degree, I had the opportunity to teach English in Shanghai for a year, where I gained experience with a range of class sizes, age groups and abilities. I taught from beginners level to business level English in 1:1 to 1:40 class sizes. I taught adults, Kindergarten and middle school students, where I planned my own lessons and developed my own teaching style. At first, it was difficult to adapt to such a range of styles, however after the first semester I became confident teaching in most contexts.

Additionally, I tutored English and Maths to Primary and Secondary school students in the UK for the duration of my degree. I worked with both high achievers and struggling students to help them prepare for their examination period. All of my students' grade averages and overall confidence improved, as did my own teaching style and lesson plans.

My degree also allowed to me receive a TEFL qualification, as well as to pursue research in language education, child psychology and globalisation.

I am a passionate and hardworking teacher, and hope to continue pursuing further experience and qualifications in teaching, such as an MA in TESOL in the future.

I have recently completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Hertfordshire in Biomedical Sciences. Prior to that, and whilst still working to obtain my undergraduate degree, the difficult life circumstances presented to me have meant that I've amassed a lot of experience in various fields in order to earn money and settle bills etc. Within that, I've collected a total 100+ hours over the past 2 years by working as a private tutor (for the company Tutor Doctor) and freelance (teaching Primary school – A level and even undergraduate level in one students case). Although my experience of teaching a number of students at once is limited, I do have plenty of experience in adapting my teaching styles and coming up with new and creative methods of delivering lessons in order to appeal to each child's strength.

Currently studying the 168-hour Level 5 Online TEFL Course – likely to be completed within 1-2 weeks.

Since graduating from university in 2012 I have had experience in education in varying capacities. Initially I spent time in a secondary school tutoring individuals and classes as well as focusing on children with behavioural issues and children from minority backgrounds. I found it to be an interesting and insightful experience, giving me a much better understanding of the social and cultural issues involved with teaching.
In 2016 I began to Tutor at a local Primary school (ages 5-11). The majority of my time was spent with the older classes however I had some experience teaching classes of every age group. As well as teaching in classes, I also took groups of students out of the class to do some catch up work, mainly mathematics as well as some reading and writing practice.

I feel that my experiences since finishing university have helped me develop as a person and will in turn improve my ability to teach. I currently work as a manager in a factory and as such I am responsible for a large number of people. While most of that responsibility is work related, I also owe a duty of care to people in a personal aspect, helping them with their health and well-being. I am responsible for the training and performance of my staff and the environment in which they work. Since working in this role I have taken Polish language courses, in order to better communicate with and understand a majority of the staff that I work with. It has helped me develop better connections with people and has helped me realise some of the difficulties that other people can face on a daily basis. I have also helped a number of people from my work place to develop their English language skills, offering free tuition to anyone that seeks it, as well as giving free maths tuition to a number of my staff's children.

I am a friendly and enthusiastic person who approaches work in the same way. Working in a high-pressured environment has honed my skills in problem-solving and achieving targets while maintaining a positive moral amongst my team. My managerial style is strongly people-driven, believing that to get the best out of people you need to understand their needs and actions.

The rewards and benefits of helping people to further themselves is what draws me to teaching, the opportunity to help children and make a real impact on their future is what motivates me to pursue this as a career.

In my experience teaching in South Korea over the years, it seems that most students are not encouraged to speak their opinion due to the nature of the collectivist culture. However, with globalization, this is slowly changing through academia with foreigner interactions. At my current school among the different types of English classes: reading, writing, conversation, etc., debate classes are at the core of our conversation classes. In the debate classes, we instruct our students to not only communicate strategically, but we also train them to express meaning orally in interpersonal, transactional, formal and informal ways in form of recount, narrative, procedural, descriptive, analytical exposition, spoof, didactic explanation, and review in daily life. I believe that having more conversations through debate classes can help remove such cultural restrictions and make our upcoming scholars to become more adaptable to exercise their freedom of expression in a thought-provoking and engaging class which is a necessity in our changing world.

The coronavirus pandemic took all the teaching methods I had employed for nearly a decade and made me quickly adapt to online teaching—something I had never done before. At my current position at Sahmyook, the first job where I had to work with 11+ other foreigners, I learned the importance of teamwork and accepting criticisms in areas I could improve as a teacher. For example, though I work well with my students, I did not know how to organize or keep track of students’ concurrent progress online, which was a necessity through Zoom since teachers could no longer meet and teach students physically in the class. A co-worker introduced to me Class Dojo, a school communication platform that helped me organize students’ achievements, scores, and other related material readily available for parents/students to view. So, you will get an adaptable and now organized teacher that is great with communicating with a team of teachers and faculty amicably. Also, you will get an experienced teacher that knows how to teach students online through Zoom simultaneously along with physical students in class giving equal opportunity for all to participate. I think this is the first time in history classes were taught both online and offline at the same time and I'm glad to be apart of this challenging teaching era. I have grown in many ways because of this unique teaching experience.
This is a tangent to my strengths, but I believe it is important to have teachers that can relate to their students because oftentimes students have a hard time relating to teachers from different nations. I have been in South Korea for over a decade now, and as an educator, I am expected to do more than just share ideas, language skills, and their applications here and abroad. I have examined the challenges that Korean students face because I have worked in many of the institutions that they attend. Since I have witnessed their stress during testing and entrance exams, I am very understanding of their sensitive nature. I am also mindful of Korean etiquette and have a working knowledge and great command of the Korean language.
