I have experience presenting and working in schools as part of my work for the Youth Inspire Project. During presentations I had a key role in explaining how to complete tasks set and providing support for the students whilst completing their work. The activities included engaging the whole class and asking for answers to be offered or hands raised, and work in smaller groups with a presentation back to the whole class. This is beneficial experience as these are common methods used in the classroom to teach topics. In addition, I have also held many roles where I have lead groups or trained newer staff. This experience is transferrable to that of a teaching role as I have provided help whenever colleagues or members in my team have needed it and been required to explain how certain work should be completed. For example, in my role as a legal assistant at Freeths LLP I often will explain how a task should be done and the reasoning for doing a task to the other legal assistants. Similarly in a classroom a teacher would have to explain a task or piece of homework they would like the classroom to complete. I have repeatedly communicated in this way at my previous job at McDonalds and my work for the Death Penalty Project.

Earlier this year I graduated from the University of Liverpool and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Upon completion of my degree, I started to seriously consider becoming a teacher. Knowing that I have always wanted to travel, I thought why not combine them both and so I enrolled on an online TEFL course with TEFL.org. The course was 120-hours and included a 30-hour grammar course, 50-hour methodology course, 20-hour video observation course, 10-hour telephone teaching course, and a 10-hour teaching large classes course. I greatly enjoyed learning what it takes to be an excellent teacher and how to create a safe and effective classroom environment. I particularly enjoyed lesson planning and incorporating different methods and activities to make the best lesson plans I could. I am a very motivated individual and am eager to start teaching and gain invaluable experience. I am also very excited to immerse myself in a new culture and experience life living in South Korea and really challenge myself in this next stage of my life, including learning Korean.

Outside of academia, I am a keen tennis player. I was a member of the University of Liverpool’s Tennis society and participated in numerous Local Tennis Leagues (LTL) throughout my time in Liverpool. This was a hugely rewarding experience and one that I enjoyed, furthering my skills as a player, and meeting new people socially. Being involved in both the LTL and the society required me to be organised and punctual, turning up to training and matches on time, as well as finding a work/life balance so that I could maximise my potential. I have experience working with kids from the ages of 5 – 16 as a youth soccer coach in South Africa and the USA. I am a recent English Language Masters Degree graduate, looking to use my Level 5 TEFL for the first time. I am passionate about language, and excited at the opportunity to develop my language teaching skills further within this role. While this would be my first TEFL role, my academic skills in studying English Language and Linguistics give me plenty of excellent experience and knowledge regarding how English can be taught. Furthermore, I have experience in teaching school children in the UK sport and extracurricular activities for a number of years, so I am comfortable with teaching and working with children. Having studied French at university during a four-year Honours degree I have always had a passion for foreign languages and learning about different cultures. I have always been drawn towards East-Asian culture which is why this would be a perfect opportunity for me to immerse myself in South-Korean culture while teaching young-learners the English language.

In addition to my classroom experience as a French student, I am also a qualified English Foreign Language Teacher (EFL) having completed a 120-hour TEFL course (tefl.org). Within this course I completed various modules including English grammar, teaching methodology, teaching young learners, and teaching large classes. This course has given me a strong academic knowledge of the English language and developed new and existing skills, such as creating effective lesson plans, time-management within a classroom, understanding the individual students’ individual needs and excellent verbal communication skills. As a result, I trust that I am fully prepared and qualified to take on this teaching role.

As well as my academic experience, I also have additional teaching experience working as a French tutor while at university and as a classroom assistant while in my final year of high school. These positions helped me develop a range of teaching skills, such as good listening and problem-solving as I always had to be on hand to help the students with any difficulties they had and help them improve on their errors. These roles also gave me the opportunity to create classroom tasks, activities and homework for students which is something that greatly benefits me when applying for a teaching role such as this. I am writing to you to express my interest in the teaching roles that you have available in South Korea. Having completed a 120-hour TEFL course I am a fully qualified EFL Teacher. On this course I completed modules which included grammar, methodology, teaching young learners, teaching large classes and lesson planning experience. This has given me more confidence in a classroom environment and the ability to teach the English language effectively.

I also gained strong teaching experience while I was completing my Gold Duke of Edinburgh award, when I volunteered at my local Girls Brigade (youth club) and helped look after the younger children (aged 4-10). During this role I assisted them with their basic reading/writing skills as well as carrying out various activities such as arts and crafts and playing games. This experience gave me the opportunity to gain strong communication and leadership skills that I will be able to apply to my teaching style if selected for this role. In addition to this, I also have experience working with a young boy of 15 with learning difficulties. While he was in my care, I learned how to handle his spontaneous behaviour which allowed me to develop a strong sense of patience and empathy. I understand these traits are essential in any teaching role as it is important to understand the students basic needs to help them improve.

I also hold a BA (Hons) degree in Accounting. During my time studying this degree at university I gained many skills, such as organisation, teamwork, time management and adaptability.
