In college, my area of study was child development with a heavy focus on early childhood development. As a Communication Disorders and Sciences major, with the goal of becoming a Speech Therapist, I took various classes instructing me on all facets of human development. As it is best to receive speech therapy in one’s own language, many of my peers chose from among the critical languages during our studies. Because of the economic and political changes and developments within South Korea, Korean proved to me to be one of the most critical languages for study. Though my studies focused originally on only the Korean language, I quickly became deeply interested in Korean history and culture. Due to this, I ultimately minored in Korean. During my days as a teaching assistant in a class focusing on the relationship between language and psychology, I often discussed with my students different aspects of the Korean language and the culture that influences it. In order to further my abilities in Korean and to improve my teaching skills, I believe the next logical step in my career is to teach English within Korea. I’m passionate about helping others and I thoroughly enjoy all education related endeavors.

I am a native English speaking graduate and a UK citizen and have recently completed a 120 Hour TEFL Course with a distinction. I have a real desire to improve the lives of others by teaching English, and look forward to creating exciting and engaging lessons to motivate my students and help them to learn effectively.
I have some teaching experience provided by the TEFL course, and in the summer of 2014 I worked as a Camp Counsellor for Summit Camp in Pennsylvania, a special needs camp for boys and girls ages 8 – 19. As part of my role as a counsellor, I had to motivate and assist campers with different activities, as well as monitoring them and responding to any incidents such as accidents or behavioural problems. It was important to establish good behaviour and ensure activities ran smoothly in order for the campers to get the most from their experience at camp. This required me to be enthusiastic, positive and caring, as well as being responsible and firm but fair.
In October 2018 I graduated from the Open University (OU) with an Upper-Second Class Honours degree in Natural Sciences (Chemistry). The OU is a public distance learning and research university, and so I carried out all of my studies off-campus. Studying for a degree in this way required me to remain focused, motivated and committed in order to be successful. Studying in my own time allowed me to develop my time-management and organisational skills and to become more self-disciplined and responsible.
My previous work and travel experiences have required me to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues as well as many different types of people from many different places. This has greatly improved my social and communication skills in addition to my ability to cope with obstacles, making me a more confident and creative person.
Overall, the skills and characteristics I have gained make me ideally suited for the job, and I believe that my enthusiasm, motivation and commitment would immediately benefit any school.

I have experience working with children of all ages, from summer camps and toddler groups to teaching English to refugees in Greek refugee camps, the latter being more challenging due to the harsh conditions faced. Despite this I enjoy educating children and helping them develop, both linguistically and socially. I have also honed my own skills through journalistic work during my undergraduate and experience of a master’s degree. I taught English for one year in Korea in 2005. I taught an average of five classes a day to different class sizes and age group, from lower primary school to upper high school. I also planned lessons and provided feedback to the academy. Previous to this I tutored first year university level mathematics and physics as well as upper high school level calculus and chemistry. Throughout my professional career I have developed excellent written and verbal communications skills and I can confidently teach to all age groups English competency levels.

I have a BSc Degree in Environmental Science and graduated in 2012. I have also acquired the 120 hours TEFL certificate. I have worked in four different organisations since 2012. In all these organisations, my tasks involved doing Environmental Education teaching for schools and the adults that visited the Zoological Garden, The Museum, the Park as well as the Nature Reserve. I learned to create lessons that were aligned to the school’s national curriculum and also teaching such lessons to the learners as well as general environmental topics for the adults. I learned the required teaching skills during this period. I taught kids from as little as 3 years old and all the way to tertiary students who were visiting my work place. I was a volunteer tutor at my university for international students. I assisted with their homework and taught conversational English.
I have also tutored children, ages 3-8, in subjects like math, english and history.

Although I do not have any experience as an ESL teacher. I believe that the experience that I have accumulated thus far will be greatly beneficial for your institution. During my time as a tutor for the Gender studies department at the university of Cape Town, I learnt how to teach engage with students of all backgrounds, this allowed me to develop communicative skills and interpersonal skills that I believe would be a great help while teaching English abroad. This also helped me create a process which is lucid in order to enable the students to throughly understand concept. Furthermore my time as a facilitator for the Global Citizenship has taught me to view education through a unconventional eye, which I believe is required when attempting to teach English, especially in a foreign country. I believe this will help me make the classroom more open and comfortable for the students, moreover, I believe this will also help me create a conducive, exciting and educational experience for my students.

I completed the CELTA course in December 2018. The CELTA course involved practical experience of working with adults and structuring lesson plans with highly experienced tutors, so I feel comfortable doing that. I found myself really liking and getting on with the students and I enjoyed the lessons I taught. I had experience teaching both advanced and beginner classes, so I was shown how to adapt lessons to different levels of skill. One of the things I particularly enjoyed was planning communicative tasks for students to practice their English. This involved group work with a focus on communicating with each other in English either through reading or writing.

I have experience working with children as I used to teach outdoor sports. I primarily taught kayaking and sailing. I found this a lot of fun and I am confident teaching children in a fun way while also making sure they focus on the task. As some of the activities required some technical skill, I did a lot of work on breaking down a task step-by-step to make it simple. I also helped with a programme for students with disabilities to get involved with sports, so I have experience working with disadvantaged learners.

I am calm and find it easy to speak to people so I would be relaxed speaking to the class and helping them to communicate in a safe environment. I am excited at the idea of going to Korea and would love to develop my teaching in your school.

I have lived and worked in China for four years as a TEFL teacher in public schools. I am passionate about travelling and teaching.
