ESL Teachers

I have recently completed my studies in Politics and International Relations at Loughborough University and am graduating on 18/7/24, with an expected result of 2.1. During my studies, I have been exposed to a variety of different teaching strategies and an understanding of the approaches that serve to effectively engage students to learn. My own learning experience during my time at university encouraged me to undertake a placement year in Sri Lanka in 2023 where I had the opportunity to teach English to students aged between 3 to 17. During this time, I gained experience in delivering English language classes both individually and as well as working as part of a group. This experience further developed my communication and public speaking skills to allow me to convey information to classes of up to 60 students, while also being able to work with smaller groups and one-to-one. I found this experience incredibly fulfilling, particularly the positive feedback from the children thanking me and my colleagues for helping them to develop their language skills.

Based on the experience I gained during my time in Sri Lanka, I feel that my ability to be flexible around class sizes and ability levels will stand me in good stead for this role. For example, when preparing for classes, it was very common that there would be a wide range of skill levels across the group being taught which would not necessarily correlate with age groups. On this basis, I needed to be well-prepared with teaching resources and materials that could suit all skill levels and to be ready to adapt as required. This process allowed me to gain valuable experience in preparing and creating teaching materials with limited resources. For example, I created worksheets covering a range of topics carefully taking into consideration whether the difficulty level was appropriate for the intended class. I also found that sub-dividing classes into groups based on current abilities was very useful for some sections of the lesson, to ensure that every student was able to develop their language skills regardless of previous ability.

About my personality, I am an enthusiastic individual who is always open to learning and developing my skills. I am passionate about pursuing a career within education, whilst also exploring different different cultures. Therefore, the flexibility this opportunity provides regarding different ages and locations is therefore incredibly enticing.

I bring a diverse and rich background in education with a strong emphasis on teaching and mentoring. My experience includes tutoring digital music production to adolescents and volunteering as an English teaching assistant for South Korean and Japanese exchange students. These roles have equipped me with effective communication skills and the ability to adapt my teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of learners. Additionally, my administrative role at Camp America, where I supported over 500 applicants, has strengthened my organizational skills and attention to detail.

I am passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic about fostering the growth and development of young people. My role as a camp counselor demonstrated my commitment to students' well-being and development, showing my compassionate and supportive nature. I thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with colleagues to achieve educational goals.

In terms of skills, I have strong interpersonal abilities and a comprehensive understanding of teaching methodologies. Completing a 120-hour TEFL course has provided me with effective strategies for teaching English as a foreign language. My customer service experience has further honed my ability to engage with diverse individuals, offering tailored support and guidance.

These experiences and skills make me well-suited for the teaching position in South Korea, where I am eager to contribute to the academic and personal growth of students.

I recently completed my PhD in History from Drew University in New Jersey, US. I have three years of experience as a teaching assistant and one year of experience as an adjunct instructor. As an adjunct, I taught Introduction to Composition at a college freshman level and gained skills in course creation, curriculum alignment, progress reporting, classroom management, and student engagement.

Otherwise, I am an optimistic lifetime learner. I believe that education is one of the most important components of life and I aim to make learning fulfilling as well as fun.

I am currently in the process of completing a TEFL certification.

I am an energetic and driven individual who takes pride in my knowledge of the English language and hopes to share it with others to benefit their everyday lives. During my Bachelors Degree in English Language and Linguistics I studied phonetics, the speech sound-systems of English and other languages to broaden my understanding of how and why different cultures adopt different tools for speaking. This has increased the depth of knowledge when it comes to helping students with their speech skills and overcoming common mistakes when learning English as a second language. After my Degree I undertook a volunteer teaching assistant position at my local secondary school. During this time I worked with students age 11-18 in classes of 30+, helping them with classwork and any questions they had, along with helping keep students focussed and engaged. I also attended 'nurture groups': smaller classes (<10) with a variety of students who struggled in English, some due to being non-native English speakers, for example. During these classes I was patient and helpful, always eliciting the answer from students to encourage them to figure things out for themselves and build confidence. In my spare time I enjoy reading and writing fiction.

After completing my degree in Psychology and doing a Developmental Psychology course, I feel that I have developed a good understanding of how to work with children and understand their needs within learning spaces.

I also completed a Fully Accredited Professional Counselling Diploma Course which has given me an understanding of the different needs that children have in order for them to successfully grow and develop in their academic lives.

The TEFL Academy Level 5 course that I completed has given me the necessary tools and skills to be an efficient and helpful teacher. I feel that I have acquired a good knowledge base of what will be expected of me going forward.

I enjoy working with children and I have experience offering au pair services to overseas professional clients that visited South Africa. I was able to work and offer care to young children that had a limited understanding of the English language.

I am looking to push myself out of my comfort zone and travel to a country with a different culture. I am hopeful that this experience will help to challenge me and offer me the chance to develop a deeper understanding of myself and my professional career goals. Ive completed a Bachelor of Arts in English and psychology, a diploma in educare and 120 hours tefl certificate. During my educare diploma I've completed my practicum at various daycare centres and at a kindergarten centres. I've also worked as a transcriptionist who was chanrged of editing and proofreading documents. I am very empathetic but I know how to resolve conflicts.

I have some 1 on 1 tutor experience which has shown me how various teaching methods can produce different outcomes. From my experience, I have also learned to pay attention to detail and the specific needs a student may have. I have a friendly and vibrant, yet calm personality. I am someone who is trustworthy, reliable and I enjoy helping others. My skills include being well spoken and creative, I am a good listener, excellent at communication and I am good an organisation.
