I am a qualified ESL teacher with an Honours degree in Arts (English and Political Science) and a Masters degree in law. During my time as a Project Officer in Coonamble NSW, I recruited and led a small team to plan and implement an adult literacy campaign. I designed and implemented a curriculum for students ranging from beginners to advanced learners, and gained valuable experience in classroom management, lesson planning and adapting teaching methods to suit various learning styles. I was able to draw on my previous experiences in teaching at a local school in Ghana where I developed skills in working with both primary school aged children and culturally diverse populations and gained a sound understanding of the importance of cultural exchange in language education.

Experience: Through my roles as a board member across various organizations, a Dean’s Office Assistant, and a Student Writer, I have developed strong leadership and communication skills. I have experience managing teams, coordinating events, and engaging with diverse groups, allowing me to create a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

As a Youth Group Leader and English Tutor, I have dedicated myself to mentoring students, ensuring they feel encouraged and motivated to succeed. Hi, my name is Deanicia Syriac! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and a Level 5 TEFL Certification. I also possess a Professional Certificate in Events Management and a Certificate in Digital Marketing and E-commerce. For the past two years, I've been teaching Business English to professionals in the Italian market, helping them improve their communication skills for the workplace. I also have experience teaching preteens and teenagers during Summer 2024, which has strengthened my ability to adapt my teaching style to different age groups and learning needs.

Beyond teaching, I’ve worked as a Programme Coordinator in the fashion industry and as a contracted Customer Engagement Manager for a small business. These roles have allowed me to develop a strong skill set in social media marketing, event coordination, and customer relationship management. I'm also experienced in professional communication, business writing, and curriculum development, and I love using Canva to create engaging visuals for my work.

In terms of personality, I’m a natural communicator who thrives on building connections with people. I bring a fun, engaging, and flexible approach to everything I do, whether it's teaching, managing projects, or working with customers. I love problem-solving and thinking creatively to find the best solutions, and my strong sense of organization helps me balance multiple tasks effectively. I am a very outgoing and collaborative person who enjoys communicating with others. At my university I was elected as vice president of the British Asian society, the largest ethnic society at the university in which I was able to meet people of similar cultures to myself, and host and coordinate events, demonstrating my ability to work as a team and time-management skills to balance this society alongside my studies. In addition I have completed 120 hour TEFL course to hone my ability to provide the best teaching to children, which can go alongside my strong communication skills I already demonstrate.

I have a bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in French from the United States and a master's degree in political science from Canada. While I was doing the bachelor's degree, I developed several skills including public speaking, organization, communication, and leadership. Since I had French as a minor, I was further able to develop my language skills, from learning to using. I feel that this makes me especially qualified to teach ESL. Throughout my master's degree, i was able to further develop and refine the skills I had picked up during my previous degree. I also added data analysis, technical writing, and time-management to my skillset. Although I wasn't able to speak French as much as I would have liked to during my time in Canada, I was still living in a foreign country and was able to learn the laws, social dynamics, and other cultural nuances fairly easily.

My personality is very sociable. I enjoy talking with people without judgement–hearing stories, understanding experiences, and learning different perspectives. Alongside being sociable, I enjoy learning about different cultures and languages. I have non-officially studied standard Korean for about a year, as well as Spanish, Norwegian, and continued French. I have lived in Japan for 3 years previously, so I am able to adapt to a different culture very quickly.

I am an adaptable and enthusiastic individual with a strong academic background in History and valuable cross-cultural experience, making me well suited for a TEFL role abroad. My TEFL certification, combined with my excellent communication and interpersonal skills, equips me with the tools needed to effectively engage with learners from diverse cultural backgrounds. Through my work in Bosnia and Herzegovina, working with genocide survivors at the Srebrenica Memorial Center, I have been imbued with a deep cultural sensitivity, teamwork skills, and the ability to quickly adapt to other environments. My prior customer-facing experience, working in retail jobs for over three years, has honed my ability to build positive relationships, manage challenges proactively, and communicate confidently – key attributes for an engaging and supportive learning environment. I have also gained a significant amount of administrative experience, working as the communications intern for Newcastle University’s Oral History Collective’s and as an administrative assistant for the National Association of Jewellers. I am eager to bring my enthusiasm, adaptability, and passion for education to a rewarding TEFL position in Korea.
