I am a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who possesses many skills which are required to work as a part of a team and under my own initiative. A combination of my experience of previously working in Kidzania and the teaching aspect of nursing motivated me to pursue a career in teaching. Working as a nurse has provided me with clear, effective communication and interpersonal skills. These experiences have provided me with valuable skills. I am able to captivate and engage with individuals to provide them with fun learning experiences. I wish to share my knowledge with students, motivate and provide positive learning experiences to help students reach their academic goals.

I believe as a teacher who openly welcomes students and accepts their cultural differences can help with an easier acceptance by the school environment. I believe that when a student feels valued, he/she is more apt to assimilate into the English-speaking culture, to make friends easier and increase opportunities to use English. Students who engage in more conversation and activities with native-born English speakers, acquire English skills quicker which help to boost their skills more.

I understand the individual needs of my students. It is helpful to assess the student’s language proficiency and educational history in doing so the design of the classroom lessons can then be individualized to focus on each student’s functional English level in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. This ongoing student assessment helps me as a teacher obtain current functional levels so lessons can be targeted towards maximum growth.

I am a caring teacher, I feel that the key component of being a successful teacher is to love your kids with all your heart as long as you do that the rest will fall into place with time.

I am an empathetic teacher, I think back to when I was a kid or teenager. Everything that happened in my life felt HUGE. If I failed a big test, it seemed like my future was basically over. These dramatic thoughts are happening in your students’ heads and impacting how they feel during class. So i try and connect with them on an emotional level which then helps the students to feel more comfortable in practicing and perfecting their English. They become more attentive in class.

I am enthusiastic as well as creative, I believe a lesson should be fun as well as educational. Especially with younger students, if you have a fun lesson plan they are more captivated and tend to listen more attentively in class.

My experience as a teacher, I had taught English for 2 years to primary school students (mostly grade 1 and 2) whilst I was in high school. After that I had taught swimming to students of various ages for 2 and a half years. Even though it might be different aspects I believe that teaching swimming is much the same as teaching English, the process you go about are similar as you are required to make the student feel comfortable with what they are doing.

I am currently studying my Level 5 TEFL Certification.

I graduated from Purdue University in May 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology Honors, with minors in Spanish and Human Rights studies. I have done online English tutoring for an adult student in Afghanistan who was at an elementary level, and I have done in-person tutoring in Spanish for local high school students from Spanish-speaking regions who were struggling due to lack of understanding of English. Additionally, I worked as a Youth Development Intern last summer in which I helped facilitate programming focused on conflict resolution, communication, and team building. I am also completing the 120-hour combined classroom and online TEFL course through TEFL.org.

I am skilled at language acquisition: I can speak proficiently in Spanish and at a beginner level in Mandarin and Korean. I have proven my exceptional intercultural intelligence and communication skills on many occasions including summer study abroad experiences in Spain and Singapore, personal solo travel across East Asia, and tests such as the Intercultural Development Inventory (in which I am in the Adaption category, the highest on the spectrum, meaning I can adapt my perspective and behavior to better understand and communicate with people of diverse personalities and backgrounds).

I am passionate about East Asian and Korean culture and have done several anthropological projects focusing on this area: my undergraduate honors thesis was on the feminist movement and media representation of women in South Korea, and I have studied the Korean language through several different extracurricular activities (an informal class, an online class, a phone app, a podcast, television shows). Though my research thus far has focused primarily on South Korea, I am also very interested in the issue of reunification and the social, economic, and political climate of North Korea and have done a fair amount of personal reading in these areas.

I am organized, motivated, resourceful, open-minded, and a fast learner, and I work very well in groups or individually. My holistic and well-rounded liberal arts education in Anthropology gives me a unique, people-oriented outlook on problem-solving and strategic thinking. Finally, I have an unquenchable thirst for traveling and trying new things, and as a highly adaptable person I am very open to change and new experiences.

I am a bilingual TEFL certified graduate from the United Kingdom. I received my BSc in Computer Games Design and Production from Northumbria University.

My name is Phillip Tsang and I’m very much interested in teaching in Seoul. I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business economics. While studying at university, I was able to meet many Korean friends that were studying abroad. The friends that I made was a bond that is something that has carried me all the way through my adult years. That is where my interest to experience the culture further and desire to learn the language began.

I’ve been working in a logistics company for the past four years where I am responsible for coordinating multiple shipments daily across America and all over the world. I also am involved with communicating with our offices all over Asia which gives me the opportunity to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds.

Although I have no formal teaching experience, I lead a team of two people and consistently train new employees on the system and procedure. The extensive amount of time and effort that my superiors have instilled into me for being in charge of the training portion of our company is something that I have to take very seriously. Becoming a teacher takes a lot of patience as well as organization to prepare two of my strongest points in life. I am very much so confident that if I am granted this once in a lifetime experience I will be able to bring so many positive changes to these kids’ lives.

I have been an English teacher in China now for three years. In those three years I have taught a range of student ages from 3 years to 22. I am well organized and can stick to strict time constraints. I work well in teams as well as autonomously. I am easy to interact with and can capture the attention of many students to engage them in classes. While teaching younger students, I had a range of experience teaching phonics, tenses, basic vocabulary and acting classes. With my older students I have had experience teaching them more complex sentence structures and and grammar points as well as assisted them in academic writing such a Compare and Contrast essays, Research essays, Problem and Solution essays and Argumentative essays.

As a new but enthusiastic ESL teacher I wish to gain experience and develop my skills. Having taught English online to students in China for the better part of a year, I am aware of how rewarding this profession can be and it is one that I wish to pursue further. As a destination for teaching, Korea really stands out for me. The rich culture and stunning scenery is something that I am really looking forward to being immersed in. I am very comfortable working with and managing groups of children, a skill developed through my experiences working as a nanny, helping run a vacation bible school program, babysitting younger family members, and tutoring.

I am also currently enrolled in a 120 Hr TOEFL course, as well as a Teaching English to Young Learners TOEFL Specialist Course, both to be completed this month (July 2019). While in university, I also took an education course aimed at showing teachers how to effectively improve student literacy and fluency in English.

I also believe my personality makes me especially well-suited to a foreign teaching position. After spending a semester in Shanghai–and interning at Intel Shanghai for a summer–I am very flexible and capable of thriving in different environments where English is not the primary language of communication. Working abroad has made me patient and very empathetic. I have studied four languages throughout my life and am accordingly familiar with the struggles of language learners and can connect with them in ways that I believe will make me an effective teacher. I have a real passion for the English language and would love the opportunity to share this excitement with my students.

My internships have made me comfortable with managing larger groups and speaking in public. I feel fully confident in my classroom management skills and my ability to communicate lessons effectively.

Some of these enriching experiences include the Children's literacy center, in which I established a professional and open rapport with my student; working at the Worner Campus Center at Colorado College as a manager in which I offered a multitude of customer services along with managing over 20 student assistants. And one of my most fun and recent experiences was teaching social studies at Keystone Academy in Beijing to students ages 5 to 14 years old.
