Dear Sir or Madam,

It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my resume in consideration for a position as an English Teacher at a school in South Korea. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies with a Minor in Asian Studies from Susquehanna University. I have also earned a CELTA certification through Teaching House. Currently, I am completing my final student teaching requirements in order to obtain a Masters in Elementary Education through Grand Canyon University. I am set to receive my Masters’ Degree in May of 2021. I am a highly motivated, outgoing creative professional, looking to utilize my skills as an Educator in order to promote English Language education and cross-cultural understanding as an English Instructor.

I have experience in teaching Adult ESL through my CELTA, and during my time at Susquehanna University I created lesson plans and conducted weekly English conversation classes for the Japanese Exchange students; holding discussions, working on their grammar, spelling, and pronunciation. My most recent teaching experience is teaching English online through “English First Kids.” Every day I teach students in China; Phonics, Grammar, Reading and Listening Skills. Previously, I taught Young Learners, ages 6-9, for one year in South Korea at the former Jayeon Global Leaders Center. There, I taught children English utilizing the school curriculum, World Fairy Tale Adventure. Every day I would teach English through song, games, art, science, math, acting, and various English activities. In addition, I developed educational materials to supplement each lesson to make it enjoyable, and interesting for each of my students. By April 30, 2021, I will have also completed 180 hours of classroom teaching through my Elementary Education Master’s program.

Through my experience teaching ESL, one of the most effective ways I find when teaching is creating stimulating lessons that students will find in everyday life they can relate to and comprehend. By utilizing audio, visuals, songs, creating games, and providing them with positive reinforcement I have seen my students blossom and excel, actively participate, and use the knowledge they have learned in real-world situations. My goal as an educator is to ensure my students have an open, honest, and supportive classroom experience.

I am a hard working individual and have already received a TEFL 120hr certificate and one year work experience teaching in South Korea. I worked at a private academy teaching English as a second language to Kindergarten and Elementary students.

As someone who has been thinking of travelling abroad to teach since leaving university I know that this is something I really want to do. It is not on a whim, or spur of the moment that I will regret, I am passionate about embarking on this new adventure. I have already completed my 140+ TEFL certification and I had an amazing time learning these new skills and way of working. I will be so happy to finally be able to put these skills to use in a real classroom environment. I know that, at first, I may not know everything and that it may feel challenging and different, but I am the kind of person who pushes themselves to do better, and I will always put in maximum effort to succeed. At home, I have two younger siblings who are aged 7 and 10, there is a big age gap but it is something I have grown comfortable with being able to interact well with younger children; to teach and guide them through new experiences and encourage them to be successful. Although it will be different in a classroom environment, these are transferable skills which can be carried through into teaching English abroad. Finally, I have been considering doing my masters degree in education over the past year, but feel as though I have not had enough experiences, or seen enough of the world yet. This would be a great way for me to combine these two things so that I am able to get the most out of this opportunity. I am a positive and energetic person. Having grown up in a big city, I enjoy the hustle and bustle of a busy day to day life and like to be out and about exploring and visiting new places. I am a bit of a lone wolf who likes to do things on their own and is more than happy in my own company, however, I like a balance and am excited meeting new people and hanging out with friends in my spare time. I am the kind of person who will adapt well to new environments as I am confident in myself and my abilities. I like to think I am a glass half full kind of person who approaches every challenge with a can do attitude. Even if I am having a down day, there is always something which can pick me up and bring me a spark of joy. I have been interested in visiting Korea for a while and it is something I had looked into a great deal before the corona-virus pandemic. From my research and love for Korean culture, I know that education is held in the highest regard where children are given great opportunities and encouraged to succeed and be the best that they can be. From what I have read online, Koreans are a wonderfully respectful and kind nation, something that is not always true of my home in the UK, I would relish living somewhere people are appreciative of their city and is generally rule abiding. As well as this, I love Korean food, I have a friend who lives in Seoul who is a wonderful chef whom I met whilst at university. She would make amazing traditional Korean dishes of kimchi and bulgogi among others that brought great happiness to everyone who tasted them, I would love to be able to try these foods again and maybe even learn to cook some myself. I am a big fan of Korean entertainment as well, I was introduced by my friend (previously mentioned) to K-Dramas and K-Pop as well as K-Beauty which I was instantly adoring of. Overall, I would say that I have gained a very good idea of life in Korea through friends as well as researching online, however, to be given the opportunity to live there first hand whilst working would be such a great and wonderful experience.

In terms of experience I was an elementary school teacher my co-teacher Ariana Hahn was able to get me a job with having no experience I taught for almost 2 years but due to COVID my school shut down and I had to find a new job.
Personally wise I’ve been told I’m a very kind and understanding person I can be quite shy I love to stay home and read books.

I have been an English tutor for over a year now, with over 400 hours of tutoring completed with online students from around the world. My online profile showcases my ability to communicate well if you check out my introductory video, and my reviews can give you an idea of my student's experiences working with me.

I'm patient with all types of learner, and I always like to keep my students relaxed so they can enjoy the learning experience from start to finish. I focus on every element of the English language, so that my students can practise with a better understanding of how English sounds and is used correctly. I believe that practice is one of the most important parts of learning a second language, but that positive reinforcement, an enjoyment of the learning experience, and gradual improvements are greatly important too.

I have worked with students ranging from 7 years old to those in their late 50's, including several from South Korea. I have helped older students focus on their fundamental mistakes with English fluency and pronunciation, and younger students on grammar rules and practice. I love using challenges, like quizzes, story telling, and discussions, to help learners expand their skills. I create lesson plans to ensure all desired subject areas are covered, and I vary the difficulty of topics to keep students engaged. I love seeing learners gain new confidence with their fluency.

My first strength are my communication and social skills. I am able to convey points clearly and more importantly, understand others well. Having worked in the hospitality industry for some years I have learnt the importance of excellent communication both with customers and with members of my team. This experience has also bolstered my patience, which when combined with my strong listening skills and a very open and approachable demeanor help me to have meaningful and purposeful conversations with many different people in many different contexts.

Secondly, I see my emotional intelligence as one of my key strengths. Not only does it give me compassion and empathy with others' emotions and needs, it motivates me to overcome challenges and conflicts in a calm and level-headed manner. I have ensured that every workplace and team I have been a part of is a space where individuals can express themselves openly without judgement and my classroom would be no different.

Studying for my degree at university whilst juggling personal life, work and extra-curricular activities allowed me to hone my organisational and planning skills into what I now see as a strength. In terms of my personality I am an organised person who is responsible for my own actions, especially regarding punctuality.

Finally, I am a creative person with a vivid imagination. My love of literature, both reading and also writing short stories and poems, gives me an excellent basis for creating engaging and exciting English lessons for students. I pride myself on my creativity in this regard and would love to inspire a younger generation to get involved in English literature.

The English language dominates the world today like no other language in history has, but being popular does not make English easy. Growing up in Zimbabwe, I know first-hand how hard learning English as a second language can be and understand why it is important to be fluent in English in today’s society, with it being the language of international communication, the internet, social media and entertainment. Even though I have been speaking English on a daily basis for many years, I am still learning its many quirks and charms through my interactions and conversations with native English speakers. I am keen to use my experiences to help others become accustomed to and use the English language! I struggled a lot when I first moved to England to comprehend and communicate in primarily English, but I feel that my experience will help me to help others wishing to speak English, being sympathetic to the challenges these students will face whilst on their journey to becoming English speakers.

I am looking for a change in lifestyle and would like to immerse myself in another culture and have an international adventure. As an increasingly important and highly influential global economy in current geopolitics, I am interested in comparing the Korean way of life to my current lifestyle in the UK and childhood memories of Zimbabwe. Not only will I be able to give an insight into British culture (which aids a greater understanding of the English language) but I will also be able to gain an insight into Korean cultures, with this being something I am keen to integrate into my future aspirations of working within the Police Force.

Having a place in South Korea 2021 will help me to develop my teaching skills in a completely new and challenging environment and I feel that I would take away and learn a lot from the experience, seeing this as an opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone!

I’m a criminology university graduate with multilingual fluencies (English, Shona and Ndebele) I’m interested in this position because this project offers a wonderful opportunity to teach students the language of the businesses and the world. As a multilingual individual who has lived and worked in the UK for the past 9 years, I appreciate and understand the importance of the target language; I also bring with me a well informed perspective of both British and Zimbabwean cultures including history, economics, geography and social issues. I believe my employment and educational experiences have equipped me with fundamental skills that will enable me to contribute to this program while encouraging and motivating all level students to improve their skills. While it might not be the same, my experience in designing and developing educational objectives at an outdoor summer camp for young adults shows my strong initiative and organisational skills combined with my ability to work well under pressure thus, allowing me to play a crucial role in a fast-paced teaching environment. In addition to my different cultural experiences within the 2 countries, I have experience in teaching English to my Korean exchange friends who struggled applying rules of the target language in their projects. Overall, with my diverse background; I will embrace the challenges and joys of teaching students as this teaching program greatly aligns with my passion for learning, sharing and growing.

My name is Renee and I am a recent graduate of the University of Virginia. In addition to confirming that I meet all the qualifications for the position, I would like to expand upon my passion for teaching and cross-cultural education. I would also like to touch upon some additional experiences and accomplishments that render me a competitive candidate for this teaching position.

Firstly, I hold a strong academic record. I obtained a bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Virginia, finishing with a 3.82 GPA. During high school, I also demonsrated academic excellence, graduating with a 4.3+ GPA. I was a National AP Scholar and took a total of 11 AP classes. Additionally, I scored in the 99th percentile with on the SAT on my first try.

Outside of my academic achievements, I have also dabbled in other extracurriculars – particularly music. I played piano competitively for over 10 years and won multiple awards. I also developed an interest in singing and musical composition in high school, which I carried with me to university where I was a member of The Virginia Sil'hooettes, the most award winning a cappella group and nationally recognized.

In regards to teaching experience, I have worked with children of all ages. I worked as an English and Math instructor for 3 years during high school, helping children ages 5-13 with grasping particularly tricky English/Mathematic concepts. Additionally, I tutored my own peers in mathematics (with a focus in Calculus and Statistics) in high school as part of a tutoring club.

After graduating college, I began to develop a desire to teach English abroad – I would love the opportunity not only to share and help others understand the English language, but also the culture that comes along with it. As a Chinese American, I've had the benefit of exposure to both East Asian and American influences, which has contributed to my desire to work within an intersection of the two.
