ESL Teachers

Dear Sir/Madam,

It is with great pleasure that I am applying for teaching positions within your company. Ever since I finished my degree I knew that I needed some time away from education and to focus on finding my career path, and honestly I am excited. I feel as if I will find this within teaching.

As you can see from my CV, I do not currently have any experience teaching English. However I have held previous classes, and catch up sessions throughout university with struggling students in the years below me, in which I had some very valuable teaching and social experiences.

I have always been good with people, mainly children, as I have grown in up a large household and am the oldest of all my siblings and cousins. Having a large family has meant I am able to be very personable and easy to talk to. I feel that my hand in helping my family raise the younger children in the family will be a great asset to helping me throughout my teaching journey.

In addition to this I have a 120+ hour TEFL online course. This course covers, gramma, teaching methodology, teaching online, young learners, teaching large classes, and a telephone teaching course. To further educate myself in ESL teaching, I am currently completing two add on TEFL courses, Teaching Young Learners 30hrs, and Teaching English Online 40hrs. I am also set to start 12weeks of evening classes online in Korean Language.

I love children and have a passion for sharing knowledge and empowering others, teaching is a convergence of the two things I love the most. I believe education is one of the best ways in which you can change someone's life, engaging with students for me has meant not only imparting knowledge but making them feel valuable. I am patient, compassionate and kind. I have, whilst holding a full time job, volunteered my time and resources to empower young learners with English and Life Orientation skills who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. It has been a tremendous pleasure to watch them thrive and has inspired me to take a leap of faith and teach full time.

I am a very outgoing person who is excellent and forming new relationships with others. During my time at university I have had the chance to meet countless people through social events, promotional work, and my course.

I cope well in unfamiliar situations and often use my initiative to find solutions to issues that arise, as well as do my best to support my team whilst not being afraid to ask for guidance in order to improve my abilities. As a fast learner I find that I am very adaptable and can overcome many difficulties.

Through presentations and group discussions at university I have been able to greatly improve my communication skills both amongst large groups and in personal conversations, a skill which is key to succeeding in this role.

My previous experience of promotional work has also made me comfortable with meeting new people and allows me to quickly find ways to create connections with others.

My key strengths consist of my attention to detail, planning, and execution, and teaching. I have passion for teaching and English alike.

I was a teacher's assistant in an elementary school, this placement taught me of the fundamentals of designing and delivering elementary level literacy support. Additionally, I have tutored senior year students in computer science, and created daily lesson plans to motivate the students in computing disciplines.

I have Bachelor of Arts English degree as well as a diploma on computer programming. Having worked in information technology industry gave me work experience in managing a high-volume workload within a deadline-driven environment.

I have experience working with young learners and their curriculum and behaviors. I am very patient and dedicated to helping students learn. In addition, I have experience in tutoring older students and I communicate materials well. I am well organized and have proven leadership skills.

I am I highly dedicated, reliable and organised person that is used to working effectively as part of a team and on my own. I have excellent time management skills and I always give 100%. I have experience teaching guitar and music production to children aged 11-18 and have learn many teaching skills from this experience. I am very excited by the opportunity to continue my teaching career. I am a college graduate. I have a BA in Communication from Kennesaw State University. Once I graduated, I spent a year teaching English as a second language in Hangzhou, China. While teaching abroad, I gained more applicable skills such as patience, classroom management, and dedication to my students and their education. I am passionate about empowering students to reach their full potential as lifelong learners and effective members of society by inspiring them to think, to achieve, and to care. I am sure I will be able to meet any and all expectations from your school.

Experience:
Three years of private ESL tutoring to international students at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga with a passion for helping students achieve their best. Dedicated to helping students in any way possible. Using my own history of learning a language, I have learned how to cater my lessons to be applicable for varying types of students and learning styles.

Personality:
I am passionate about learning various languages and the history attached to them. I believe learning another cultures language is the best way to learn more about their people and history. I am dedicated to my studies and students and will always work hard to get my desired results.

I graduated from college in December 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communications and am currently working on my TEFL certification. I will be TEFL certified in April 2021. I first learned about teaching English overseas as a career in 2015 and it’s like a lightbulb went off in my head. I knew this was the path for me. I always knew that I wanted to travel and I’ve always been interested in other cultures and languages.

My college degree was heavily focused in advertising and PR principles, writing, studying demographics and target audiences, and ethics. I’ve worked various retail jobs since I was 18 and have been with my current job since 2016. After being with my store for a year, I began training new employees and learned how to adjust my training style to the person’s needs.
Through working retail, I’ve developed many skills that cross over into teaching including: learning how to interact and deal with a variety of people, patience, adaptability, planning, and interpersonal skills. I’m adaptable and work well under pressure. Sometimes there's no pressure like working 40+ hours a week in a mall during Christmas season.

More personally, I’ve always been an avid reader and learned a lot of my early vocab through books. I believe this gives me a unique insight into the frustrating nuances between written and spoken English. I understand the frustration with English pronunciations that don’t follow any rules.

I vividly remember finding the same book in two languages and trying to figure out how translation worked. It definitely went over my 6-year-old head and I remember naively thinking that it was just translated word for word.

I've learned a lot about linguistics since then and have taken Spanish, Latin, and Korean classes. Korean was my foreign language in college. So I have a lot of experience as a foreign language student and I’m ready to take on a role as the teacher.
