ESL Teachers

Hello there!

My name is Courtney, and I am a 26-year-old South African and native English speaker with a love of other cultures and languages. I have a Bachelor of Science in Geography and am very friendly, energetic, reliable, responsible and an incredibly hard worker with a high work ethic. I am currently looking for teaching positions in central Seoul and am available to start as soon as my visa is processed.

I was formally trained as a facilitator in South Africa and Switzerland, and as a presenter in Belgium. I am also a qualified TEFL Teacher, having completed a 160 Hour course with an advanced certificate in teaching young learners. I have been privileged enough to have worked with youth aged 5 to 30 years-old from over 100 countries in a number of different contexts including running education programmes, delivering trainings, hosting summer camps and developing online learning materials and course curriculums.

I absolutely love presenting, facilitating and teaching and I have experience delivering classes and workshops online and in person to learners at many different levels from elementary to university level, in many different countries and cultural contexts. I am flexible and adaptable, and I am able to adjust my methods, activities and content level according to who I am teaching.
For the last four years I have worked for a Swiss nonprofit organisation that conducts youth education programmes in over 180 countries. In that time, I had the privilege of meeting people from, and living all around the world – including travelling to Seoul. Through my own experience, I have seen how learning a new language can connect you to the world in new and wonderful ways. I became an English teacher to combine my love of inter-cultural exchange and my love of public speaking and facilitating with trusted teaching practices to offer others the enriching and life changing opportunity that learning English provides.

I would like to teach in Korea because, of all the places I have been privileged to travel, Korea stood out among the rest for the kind and hardworking people and rich culture. I have always wanted to go back and to have the opportunity to experience living and working there.

Working in quality assurance in the food manufacturing industry has given me the opportunity to work though challenges with regards to teamwork and communication.
I have found that I thrive in environments where I can work in a diverse team in order to complete a goal.
Patience is a strength that I have learned through my interactions with different suppliers and clients.

My strengths in term of experience are customer service, problem solving and patience. Those are strengths I acquired while working as a leader in customer service for 5 years and a assistant manager for 2 years.

As for my personality strengths I would say that I am some who is adventurous, curious and flexible. I like to discover and learn new things. I also understand that not everything go accordingly therefore I don't might changing and adapting to a new situation or environment.

Some skills that I possess are teamwork, communication and leadership. I am not scared to take the lead on a project personal or professional and manage and motivate the people around me.

I have accumulated experience teaching children and teenagers aged 12-18 in a secondary (high) school and children aged 4-12 in a primary (elementary) school setting since October of 2020. This experience means that I would be able to create lesson plans that keep pupils interested and allow them to thrive. Due to COVID-19 classes have been extended to an hour meaning that I have experience keeping a class’s attention over long periods of time. I have learned to adapt to the more difficult teaching environment that Covid has created.

As I can play different instruments such as guitar, saxophone and tin whistle, I would be able to perform traditional Irish songs for the pupils and would encourage them to participate while teaching. If possible, I would enjoy setting up a music club in the school to encourage and teach anyone willing to take part. I would be capable of this task as I was an active member of my secondary school community helping to organise charity events such as book sales, bake sales and talent shows. For work in my community I was awarded a Gaisce President’s Award. To add to this, I was a senior prefect and mentor to children who had just started secondary school. In this role I was proactive in helping students with any issues that they needed to resolve and would be able to bring that experience to help in a Korean school community.

As a singer in a chamber choir called The Ramparts and from starring in two university plays, I have been exposed to the pressure of performing live in front of large audiences of strangers. The skills learned from these experiences have translated into my work as a teacher as I have no issues in dealing with stress and pressure. When teaching children, you must be flexible to all different levels of ability and background making my improvisational skills from performing applicable to a teaching environment. I have gained valuable experience teaching in a primary/secondary school and being part of a school community as a teacher. The feedback I have received from pupils and staff has been very positive and I would want to bring my enthusiasm and passion for teaching to the pupils in Korea. I have confidence in my ability and experience to adapt to the different learning needs of Korean students.

Importantly I hope that my experience in learning and teaching in Korea will help me have a deeper appreciation for the country’s culture, heritage and history. I am fully prepared to invest my time, energy and skills into getting the most of my class if hired.

I am a well organised individual, who brings creativity into teaching. In my current position working in finance I sometimes provide training to other members of staff as well as new joiners. There is a number of transferable skills I can utilise in this position, from organisation, admin, building relationships, time management and many more.

I am a very bubbly and charismatic individual. I have a huge personality and enjoy any activity that allows me to release my energy and flourish. Working with children is a passion of mine and I thrive off helping and watching others learn and grow.
I have travelled extensively throughout my life and love learning about new cultures and meeting new people. I am a big “foodie”, I enjoy good food and always eager to try new things. Music and dance play a huge role in my life and I am always incorporating it in my everyday life and activities. In addition, I enjoy staying fit by hiking, working out and group activities.

I am a kind, patient and positive person who loves working as part of a team and has a passion for teaching English and traveling. I have three years teaching experience in China and would love to teach again in Asia. I love teaching young kids and making school a fun learning environment. I’m experienced and calm in a teaching environment but would love to gain more experience and learn more myself.

I am an adaptable and quick learner who is hardworking and equipped to handle any challenges that may arise. I am good at dynamic problem-solving and try to view things with an eye for quality while still ensuring that the multifaceted nature of the tasks at hand are taken into account. I have worked diligently in various customer service and education roles that have garnered a wide range of skills including great communication abilities and mastery of time management. I am one who is friendly, with a cooperative and team-focused demeanor that is always ready for a new challenge. This has translated well into my work and allowed me to grow as an employee and a person. From previous experience, I have skills in various cloud technologies and office programs such as Microsoft Office, Salesforce CRM, Tencent teaching platforms, and social media. I am also adept and experienced at lesson planning, event organizing, and parent-teacher communication and training.

Taking a position as an undergraduate teaching assistant is what started and fueled my desire to join the field of education. This was further solidified and validated in my work as an ESL teacher for young and mid learners. It is through this line of work that I have discovered my love of languages, education, and seeing students grow and succeed in areas they never thought they could. This is a path I am excited to contribute to, enhance, and explore within South Korea.

I am writing to express my interest in an ESL job in South Korea that I've seen advertised on your website.

To introduce myself, I’m a French & Italian BA graduate of The University of Manchester in the UK. I most recently worked in technology sales in London, though I’m looking for a career change from August 2021.

I hold an 120 hour TEFL qualification, and in the past have completed numerous placements at primary schools in the UK where I taught a variety of subjects to children aged 4-9, often with a focus on children who require slightly more aid in the classroom.

Training and teaching have also formed key parts of my professional experience in both the military and sales, so again I’m confident of my capability to teach. On top of this, excelling in technology sales and the Royal Navy demonstrates my consistency as a top performer, communicator, hard-worker, team player and leader, and key contributor inside and outside the immediate job description. I can provide references on request to speak to this as well.

On a more personal note, languages have always been a hobby of mine, hence my degree in French & Italian. I've spent a lot of time in classrooms as a student being taught languages, and therefore I have a strong understanding of what works well in different settings, what doesn't, and how different students respond to different methods.

Something else to note: I've been teaching myself Korean for the last two years in my free time, and particularly since lockdown hit, I’ve been able to make great strides with this. Whilst I’m not fully competent in speaking at the moment due to lack of people to practice with, I can read, write and understand to a good standard, though I’m learning more everyday.

I believe I've also already acquired the documents necessary for the E2 Visa: the apostile stamped degree certificate and criminal background check.

I visited South Korea in Summer 2019 on holiday, and I’m keen to return ASAP. Having lived in both France & Italy during my studies, I have experience in adapting to a new culture, new language and new surroundings far from home, and I'm ready for South Korea to be my next move.

I'm highly organised, ambitious and enthusiastic, and this programme stands out as something I would love to be involved in.
