Good morning from the US!

I would like to share that during my time in my University's scholarship organization, FOCUS, I have amazing work experience in terms of working with many people from different backgrounds. I earned many skills such as being able to speak in front of a classroom of students whilst proctoring a lesson plan made by myself and other mentors. Along with presentation and public speaking skills, I have also been able to develop my interpersonal abilities by having individual meetings with students in being updated on their academic work and university life. I have also been a part of the planning committee, hence making arrangements for events creating a welcoming community for first-generation students. I also feel my time put into my animation projects during my undergrad career made me very efficient as a in communication and time-management. During my most recent project, I was put as a senior lead for other sophomores and juniors, new to the work flow of creating an animation short. As a result of this, I was given the opportunity to teach and guide my team members into creating a successful project.
I also would like to note that I have just returned from a student exchange program as a student attending Soonchunghyang University. During my time in Korea, I was involved in a wonderful opportunity in networking with Korean University students that were interested in learning English. Being able to take on a new perspective for communication, I strongly believe I learned a great deal from the students I was connected with as we shared language and culture with each other. This program also lead to my love and respect for the country of Korea.
Overall, I believe my background has molded me into a very patient, organized, and empathetic individual that is motivated in being involved in a greater, fulfilling cause such as this position.

I have been a teacher for 3 years, and for the past 1 year I have been teaching English speaking, writing, listening, literature, etc. in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. I have taught students as young at 2nd grade all the way to 10th grade, and am 150-hour TEFL certified. I love working with students and am a fast and passionate learner. I am creative in the classroom and take the time to connect with my students to ensure they do the best in the classroom.

Specifically, my skills lie in teaching full course loads and serving as an advisor of the English language. My forte is planning, preparing, and teaching well-developed English lessons that enthuse and inspire students. I am a Bachelor of Arts graduate, so I know how to work with the mind and body and will use this to help the students be comfortable in every lesson they have with me to be the best they can be. I am also competent in selecting and sequencing appropriate materials and approaches according to the course area and the individual requirements of students. Furthermore, maintaining current lesson plans and assessment data such as grades and attendance is also an area that I am well-versed in.
My passion can further be determined by my ability to design, administer, and evaluate a range of formative, and summative assessments. I am poised to teach students English language skills in areas such as listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

I'm a kind, cheerful, and friendly person who is honest and timely, who works well in a team but also independently since I like to set objectives for myself that I will attain, and who has excellent listening and communication skills. What draws me to education is difficult to describe: it has been such a ubiquitous facet of my life, I do not know there is any truly effable distillation of what drives me as an educator. I live for the thrill of discovery, so watching that same sense of wonder ignite in other people’s eyes is exhilarating. Education is the linchpin of an unfettered existence; the idea of gifting that freedom to others, and making the world a better place by molding future generations with compassion and logic, is what drives my yen for learning and educating.

I graduated from Rhodes University in South Africa with a bachelor of social science degree, majoring in psychology and sociology. During the time I was at Rhodes I served as a wellness leader at my residence which was a program aimed at promoting wellness through the student community for all students. My responsibility as a wellness leader was to act as the liaison between the student body and the division of wellness at Rhodes University. In 2016, I was also involved in a program called Inkwenkwezi where I volunteered in tutoring at a primary school in Grahamstown, which is a small town where my University is situated. Currently, I tutor English online to students from all around the world. My students include people of different ages and linguistic backgrounds.

I believe that I am suitable for this job because I have gained experience in working with people when I served as a wellness leader. I consider myself to be a hard worker. I am good at communicating, organising, prioritising as well as multitasking. I am a patient and responsible person.

My name is Lethuxolo Ndalenhle Thomo, but most people call me ‘Lethu’. I am from South Africa. I recently completed my postgraduate studies in Political Science with an undergraduate degree in Humanities, majoring in English Studies and Political Science. I also recently completed my 120-hour TEFL certification in the hopes that I can begin teaching English abroad. I would like to begin my teaching career abroad is because I would like to experience different cultures and learn all about them. I have never left my home country and would like to learn about the world while helping students with the English language. I would also like to pass on things that I have learned in my culture to other citizens and leave a lasting impression as an English teacher. My mother was also an English teacher and she inspired me to help where I am good, and I am good at English, just like her.

I believe I am well-equipped for this position because I have excellent social skills and establish good relationships with those around me. I love to help and find peace in making the lives of those around me, especially my students, a little better. With my knowledge of the English language I can navigate the different and complex ways in which it is used and conceptualise it in a way that students can understand. I make myself available to every and any student who may need extra help after classes and find joy in seeing them succeed because their success is my success. I am a very energetic and caring person and I strive to give my all in everything that I do. I like to complete my tasks ahead of time and remain prepared.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Teaching, have 12 years of full-time teaching experience and am a licensed teacher in Colorado, USA. I am TEFL certified and have a certification in Teaching Business English. I have lived abroad (in the UAE) and taught English Language Learners.

On a personal note, my parents are Korean immigrants who were born and raised in Busan. I have had the privilege of spending time in Korea with familiy and to study and travel throughout the country. Much of Korean culture is familiar to me.
