ESL Teachers

I am someone who started out his career in English language teaching but then migrated into the financial industry out of necessity. The time is now, however, that I continue my transition out of banking and back into teaching. I say “continue” because I have been teaching high-schoolers for the past 7 years in preparation for my next move. The specialty for which I am currently being trained (Teaching English to Korean Speakers) plus my life experiences and passion for teaching fit very well with the needs of the position, and I would be thrilled at the opportunity to join your team.

Prior to my financial career I spent a few years teaching non-English speaking adults at a local college in the US, after which I established my own English school in the Dominican Republic for those seeking to work in tourism and for executives of local businesses. My work and education have taken me to several other countries as well—indicated on my CV—providing me with a solid knowledge base of moving abroad and all the particulars involved.

I love education, and with me you would get someone with excellent organizational skills who easily connects with students. I am also the type of person who understands the philosophy of “team” by participating in committees and school improvement projects to help build a better environment for students and staff alike.

Over the last few years, I have gained rich experience working with children. I enjoy designing and delivering lesson plans, and managing a classroom while keeping students engaged. My personality traits include patience, empathy, adaptability, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude. In terms of skills, I am able to assess and provide feedback on student progress, have creative problem-solving skills, am proficient with technology for integrating it into teaching, and have strong collaboration and teamwork skills for working with other teachers, staff, and parents.

I've worked with children for about a decade (through babysitting and volunteering), and this experience has taught me how rewarding it can be (and also how it can be challenging). Something I loved about babysitting was how excited the kids would get when we would do crafts. As a volunteer swim coach, there were many instances where the students would be stressed or upset, and I learned how to navigate this with them, so that they still had fun swimming! Between these experiences, I developed my ability to be patient, understanding, and positive (even when I was tired).

I'd describe myself as a life-long learner, and I hope to share some of my passions for writing, reading and creativity with my future students!

Although I am still new to teaching, I know I can be an excellent teacher. I am patient, compassionate, and nurturing. I have taught students online from a variety of countries and varying skill levels, so adjusting to the needs of my students in the classroom will be no problem for me. I am a bit of an introvert, but once I get adjusted to my surroundings, I can be outgoing.

I am a highly adaptable individual with a great passion for travel, discovery and languages.

I have previously gained experience in teaching English whilst volunteering in Cambodia and as an English language assistant in Spain in a private school environment.

In addition to this I currently tutor English online using Preply.

I have travelled a lot previously, spending 6 months in Asia and 1 year in South America. Meeting new people and adapting to new environments is something that I take great pleasure in.

My travel experiences have meant that I can handle culture shock well and I can form bonds with people from a variety of backrounds and cultures.

I have worked as a tutor with children from ages ranging 5-14 in maths, English and general studies. With regards to experience, I would say a valuable and relevant role that I performed was tutoring online and in person to family and friends. This taught me the importance of catering a different lesson for each person, as each person has a different way of learning, hence I would find what method was most effective for the individual. Furthermore, I have worked at a franchise retail store, The Coop, where I learned the importance of always having a positive attitude to any situation, as many things may not go as expected, therefore it was always important to counteract this with a positive mindset and adapt. In addition, this experience taught me the importance of being organised in every aspect, whether it was with planning the tasks for the day, or just the overall presentation of the store, I understood that success is built on being organised. As of now, I work in the events and promotions industry which involves helping set up events, as well as promoting many companies such as Samsung, Deliveroo and The Guardian. This has allowed me to work with hundreds of new people and help me understand the importance of working as a cohesive unit, in order to present the brand in the best possible manner to others.

To describe myself, I would say that I'm pro-active, innovative and always up for trying new things. I enjoy competing in many sports such as football, badminton, table tennis, cricket and so on, in order to keep fit and I just enjoy them greatly. In addition, I enjoy editing videos of any events I go, whether it's an exhibition or a concert, I edit a compilation of videos together to make a complete video at the end of it. Moreover, I am always open to new experiences and obtaining new skills, whether its exploring different countries (even my own) or learning a new language. I have take French lessons and obtained an intermediate level in French and have been learning the keyboard. I intend to add many more skills to my portfolio in the future aswell.

I am a recent graduate in Accounting and Finance, achieving a 1st in my degree. Since graduating, I have been completing a TEFL course in order to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be able to teach English abroad.
