Hello my name is Gavin Doell. I am an extremely extroverted person and love to learn about new cultures. I have 120 tefl training hours and I have experience in tutoring and very informal tefl teaching. I spent 6 months tutoring students Spanish (middle/high school students). I also have experience working with younger students. I am fluent in Spanish and I am currently at a C2 level in Portuguese and Italian. I love learning new languages and hope I can contribute in your program!

I have worked in a several different environments leading and teaching children from the ages of 4 to 18. Examples of these include one-to-one as an Au Pair, in an after-school setting with up to 30 children, in a school environment with children with learning difficulties.

I am an efficient team leader and a conscientious team member. My other skills include leadership, teamwork, self-motivation, networking, communication, problem solving and decision making under pressure, which I have gained through my roles in working in a number of different sectors – including the hospitality, non-profit and voluntary sectors.

I love travelling and getting to know new cultures and people, and some of the hobbies I enjoy are dancing salsa, gardening and podcasts.

I am currently working as a Direct care staff at the Guttenberg Center for special services. I recently graduated from Muhlenberg College with a degree in Psychology. My internships, previous jobs and current job have all involved me working with and/or teaching children ranging from the ages 2-13. All of these jobs have taught me how to be adaptable, understanding and compassionate. Working with children has taught me to expect the unexpected and to be prepared to find ways to keep things running smoothly. I have learned how to be patient and understanding of what these children are going through either at school outside of class, inside of class or at home. I have realized how much I love working with children and all the unexpectedness that comes from it. I love the ability to have fun and come up with different games while still being in a learning environment.

I have 3 years experience teaching children ages 4-16 in a dance instruction setting. While it may seem like dance and English teaching are very different, I find there are more similarities than one may think. New concepts in dance can be challenging, uncomfortable, and feel unnatural to perform, just like new language skills. My strengths as a teacher lie in my ability to personalize instruction to each student to make sure they don't feel overwhelmed or left behind as we progress as a class. An empathic approach with creative teaching techniques makes classes less stressful, and the results are positive when students are comfortable in their learning environment. Nurturing students' skills in a way that grows their confidence in their own abilities is key, as opposed to teaching techniques that leave students struggling, confused, and feeling like they cannot approach me for help.

I am very interested in applying for your teaching post. Since 2022, I have been teaching Business Studies at a secondary school here in the UK but wish to teach abroad. I have also taught computer science and mathematics. I graduated with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Business studies from the University of Wolverhampton in 2022.

I consider myself to be a conscientious, punctual and hard-working individual who is very professional. I have excellent written, oral and verbal communication skills – especially in English.

I have worked all my life and prior to this teaching position I worked in the finance department at my local hospital, here in the UK, as a Management Accountant for 20 years.

I have been very lucky to have travelled to many countries across the World, and in Asia, and now wish to pass on my wealth of life and teaching knowledge to children and individuals less fortunate than myself.

I enjoy working with children of all ages, and believe I can make a positive impact on their careers and lives going forward.
