Having graduated from University of Glasgow with an English Literature Degree at 2:1, I have undergone four years of Undergrad level academic study. My time at University endowed me with an in depth knowledge of literature, language and how to apply said knowledge to extensive written essays, dissertation and presentations using a mix of finely honed written and verbal communication.

I have worked as a tutor in English and Maths with an UK based organisation Explore Learning, who provide tutoring to children ages 4-14 delivered both online and in person. I had my own assigned students who I worked with regularly, coaching them at differing levels and tailoring lessons to their individual needs, as well as providing detailed feedback during the marking process. I often had to liaise with parents in addition to students to establish a rapport and keep them informed on their children's progress regularly. I took great pride in motivating my students and instilling the confidence to achieve their academic potential.

In addition to the above, I am the holder of a completed 120 hours TEFL certificate.

In addition to more education contexts, I have consistently worked in people focused roles from retail positions to my current post as Project Coordinator for TRC Media, a charity that provide training and development for the television and broadcast sector.

A good ESL teacher should be able to relate freely with the students, should be lively, active, positive and have a welcoming attitude towards the students. I have a bubbly and chatty personality. I am extroverted and well-versed in public speaking. I have babysitted children and get along with them quite well.

In terms of experience I've never taught children before, but I have experience with watching and getting a long with children. For instance I have little cousins under 7 and I've always been very patient and loving towards them, and making sure that I always keep a watchful eye on making sure that they don't get hurt or get into anything they are not suppose to. With children between the ages 8-12 I get a long with them pretty well. I notice that they are comfortable talking to me and tend to gravitate towards me. My personality others would say I'm easy going and easy to talk to, as well as understanding. I would say that I am a fun and loving person who enjoys being around people and their company. I would say for skills, I'm good at communicating, as well as listening to what others have to say. I'm open-minded to others and their opinions. Whenever a conflict happens I try to de-escalate a situation and see where both sides are coming from before saying how to resolve it.

I have worked with children for almost ten years. I spent a year as a nanny for three children, an infant, two year old and five year old. As such I have worked a great deal on encouraging and building developmental skills in children, including communication skills. Last year I worked at OneWay Language School in Sevilla teaching a variety of students. also taught at a local school, across all ages from six to sixteen, giving me invaluable experience of teaching in a school, alongside teaching in an academy. Both roles allowed me to gain further teaching experience, working through student books, to implementing my own lesson plans. I taught from small intensive C1 classes, working alongside another teacher particularly with the youngest students, to being tasked to take half the class out to the library to teach independently. Working in both locations was a fantastic opportunity to experience and develop my teaching methods in both an academy setting, and even more importantly in a school setting, with a wide variety of different students and levels.
The year before I worked at a different academy in Sevilla, Connect Idiomas. This was my first formal teaching position, which gave me so much confidence and desire to continue in my hope to teach English abroad.
I taught a wide variety of different ages and levels, from four year olds to adult C2 classes, and from one to one, to intensive exam preparation lessons. What I most enjoyed about this role, and also with the role at OneWay was the ability to teach such a variety of different ages, abilities and needs. Both experiences were invaluable in giving me as much exposure to learning and implementing the way in which I want to teach. I always felt supported in my role, which gave me the confidence to really pursue and experiment the ways in which to get the best out of every student, which was at the heart of everything that I did.These experiences have given me the desire to teach again and to become an English teacher, especially as a foreign language, as I feel that is the most rewarding form, and what interests me the most. The ability to not only teach but to learn about new cultures and to teach others about mine, is incredibly appealing.
I have shown through the volunteer projects and my degree that I am able to learn quickly on the job, and that I am willing to engage completely in new topics and to settle quickly into a new environment.
