I have not formally taught, but I worked many retail jobs which helped me acquire many skills for working in fast-paced environments. I have also become adept at confronting unexpected situations and working in team-based environments. I am a patient person, have good communication skills, respect for others, can adapt well to unexpected situations, and have compassion for others. These are all traits that I think would aid me in my teaching journey.
Patience is important, as it is easy to become frustrated with the lack of understanding that may happen in a classroom. Good communication will aid in the flow of conversation and explanation of concepts. Being able to adapt well to unexpected situations can help with the upkeep of harmony in the classroom. Respect is something everyone should be granted, regardless of hierarchy, and having compassion for students learning something new is indispensable as it can help them feel more comfortable asking for help when needed.

My biggest strength is my compassion. I always have a smile on my face and I am very approachable. I am also resilient. Even if I am tired or if I am just having a bad day, my face never shows it. I never let negativity affect my actions or my work. In other words, my kindness and compassion does not waiver. I have been a guitar teacher for many years and I have become proficient in building rapport with students. I have a knack for engaging young learners and making their learning experience fun. My experience working as a music teacher and as a summer camp counsellor has allowed me to understand what it takes to be a fun but effective communicator. I am passionate, determined, and adaptable. I believe that these qualities are what will make me a strong ESL teacher. I have worked in many different environments where I was tasked with training and teaching people from various walks of life, including varying ages, cultures, and English language levels. These teachings have included the knowledge of legal documents to those whose first language was not English such as clients from Pakistan and Türkiye. Additionally, I have given speeches to prisoners with mental health issues to ensure that they had the relevant information upon their release. I currently work as a clerk in a warehouse where English is not the first language of the majority of the staff. This has been a barrier to learn and overcome so that we can work professionally and efficiently whilst also learning about each other's cultures.

My skills include time management, organisation, written and verbal communication to a high standard. The time management can be seen by my current work where I undertake many tasks in one shift to ensure that the warehouse runs smoothly. It can additionally be seen between my professional life and my spare time where I ensure that I make time to relax whilst also writing my third novel.

I am eager to learn more about the world, and to learn from different cultures, languages, and people. This eagerness and passion for other ways of life stems from my own upbringing where my childhood was spent in the Caribbean surrounded by different people and cultures. I have enjoyed travel and the idea that there is so much left to learn about the world, ever since.

Firstly, I have a strong academic background. In Secondary School I gained 5A’s at higher level, and was the recipient of several prizes, including for my abilities in the English subject. Afterwards, I continued my studies at Edinburgh University, undertaking a law degree, which I completed with a first class result. These achievements are a testament to my ability to work hard and balance heavy workloads, and demonstrate that I can rise to meet the challenges and rigours that teaching English as a foreign language presents.
My time at the University of Edinburgh was enriched by a year long exchange programme at Fundação Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro. Participation in this exchange fostered a deep appreciation for cultural and intellectual exchange- qualities I am excited to share with students in Korea. Moreover, this experience was highly rewarding, and hence I am confident that teaching abroad, despite being in a new and unfamiliar environment, would be an opportunity where I would flourish.
Secondly, I believe that my experience in education and other fields equips me with the skills and knowledge that make me an ideal candidate for this position. My early experience as a Maths and English tutor at Kumon created a strong foundation for working in educational environments. At Kumon, I worked with children of various ages and was responsible for a number of tasks, including marking the children’s work and explaining concepts that they struggled with. My time at Kumon taught me the importance of building rapport with children to identify where they may have difficulties. It also showed me how to work effectively with others in structured educational environments to achieve the best outcomes.

After 4 years of schooling at Tonbridge school, was accepted at Univ. of London QMW to read Dentistry.

Due to East Asia financial crisis of 1998, I was not able to continue the schooling in the UK and came back to Korea to do my military service.

After my military duties, I entered Handong Global Univ to major in International Law and Politics.

I have been teaching students academies for over 13 years and help them go to the university of their choice. Particularly I was specialized in sending them to a medical college.

My main subjects were Chemistry and Biology for over 10 years

I have recently completed my studies in Politics and International Relations at Loughborough University and am graduating on 18/7/24, with an expected result of 2.1. During my studies, I have been exposed to a variety of different teaching strategies and an understanding of the approaches that serve to effectively engage students to learn. My own learning experience during my time at university encouraged me to undertake a placement year in Sri Lanka in 2023 where I had the opportunity to teach English to students aged between 3 to 17. During this time, I gained experience in delivering English language classes both individually and as well as working as part of a group. This experience further developed my communication and public speaking skills to allow me to convey information to classes of up to 60 students, while also being able to work with smaller groups and one-to-one. I found this experience incredibly fulfilling, particularly the positive feedback from the children thanking me and my colleagues for helping them to develop their language skills.

Based on the experience I gained during my time in Sri Lanka, I feel that my ability to be flexible around class sizes and ability levels will stand me in good stead for this role. For example, when preparing for classes, it was very common that there would be a wide range of skill levels across the group being taught which would not necessarily correlate with age groups. On this basis, I needed to be well-prepared with teaching resources and materials that could suit all skill levels and to be ready to adapt as required. This process allowed me to gain valuable experience in preparing and creating teaching materials with limited resources. For example, I created worksheets covering a range of topics carefully taking into consideration whether the difficulty level was appropriate for the intended class. I also found that sub-dividing classes into groups based on current abilities was very useful for some sections of the lesson, to ensure that every student was able to develop their language skills regardless of previous ability.

About my personality, I am an enthusiastic individual who is always open to learning and developing my skills. I am passionate about pursuing a career within education, whilst also exploring different different cultures. Therefore, the flexibility this opportunity provides regarding different ages and locations is therefore incredibly enticing.
