I am a passionate, results oriented teacher who has been teaching for the past two years. During this time I’ve created lessons that involve a variety of fun activities that challenge kids and allow me to assess their progress. While working at my current job I was given the opportunity to do demonstration lessons for parents which helped me understand how to work with children I’ve never met before. I was very successful at the demonstrations and during the month of April 2019, at a campus of seven foreign teachers, I was responsible for half of all sign ups. I’m very detailed oriented: we mostly use group and paired activities but I always try to incorporate independent activities so I can make sure the students actually know the material. I think competition can really help students out a lot. If they believe that they are thriving and winning then they will take responsibility for their learning. Besides these things try to keep the class disciplined while everyone is having fun. It’s fun to work with kids, you should keep it lighthearted.

My name is Nokwazi Mkhize, I am a 27 year old Supply chain professional. I first became interested in
teaching when I was helping my niece and nephew do their homework. My passion for teaching was
ignited when I would watch them go from confusion to mastering a concept. Seeing the difference

My degree and subsequent work experience in supply chain and logistics, this field has taught me

As a current graduate student at Yonsei University in Seoul, I have come to experience the educational sphere in Korea first-hand and am truly excited at the prospect of becoming an English language educator in Korea. While living in Seoul, I have had the experience of conducting private tutoring lessons to students of all ages, in both one on one and group environments. For many years, I’ve worked within the context of the church as a teacher and leader. Much of my experience working in this context has been with children to teenagers and it has been my joy to take part in the lives of students and see them grow within their knowledge of God and personal lives. Before my time in working within the context of a church, I have also worked as a Private Tutor where I taught 6th graders English, math, and reading. Through my time here, it has given me the experience of what it is like to work personally with someone and to learn more about their present life situations and education goals. Lastly, I have also worked briefly for about 6 months at a Private Academy called C2 Education where I taught an array of subjects to students. Through this time, I also got exposure to oversee international students from South Korea that were taking the TOEFL test. So, in my experience, I have had some time teaching students one way or another and I have worked towards using my abilities to effectively communicate, so that students can feel like they’re learning and growing.
Just this last April, I got married to a person in South Korea who currently lives in Gimpo with her parents. Because she can’t live in America without her residency, I’ve decided to instead move to South Korea so that she can eventually receive her visa and move to America together. This is going to be about a year long process; however, I do want to be with her in the meantime and I felt that to continue teaching English in South Korea would be a great opportunity for me.
While English is the first language I’ve learned, I’ve learned to pick up the Korean language throughout my life because of my engagement with Korean people my whole life. While I am not fluent in Korean, I have at many times, lived in Korea independently and am able to get around without that much of a problem. Otherwise, teaching English is something I enjoy as I do love to help students reach their goals and become a mentor for them as they learn to not only learn the language, but navigate through their own lives. I always do love learning about culture and people, and I see this as a great way for me to connect with the people there and learning to understand it’s culture.

My degree involved a lot of health education. Teaching children in general improved my classroom management and presentation skills. It also made me more passionate about teaching, and in the process I learnt the importance of patience and being understanding and to always motivate students.

I have previously studied abroad in Seoul on a year's exchange. During this year, with the friendships and relationships I established with Koreans, I often assisted them with their requests to help with their English. I am only just graduating now so do not have any physical classroom teaching experience yet, however, I have signed up to a Summer teaching camp in Romania this summer to give me some valuable experience and to put the knowledge I have attained from my TEFL course into practice.

My year in South Korea confirmed to me that I would absolutely love to teach English as a foreign language to Asian students. I have a bachelor's degree in International Studies from the University of Florida, which is one of the top public schools in the United States. During my time at UF, I was inducted into the prestigious PBK honor society. I take my education very seriously, and would love to spread my love of learning. I am extremely interested in traveling and immersing myself in new cultures, and I would love the opportunity to teach in Korea. At university, I spent 4 years learning Italian, so I have personal experience in trying to learn a second language and could use my own background to improve my teaching style. I am currently enrolled in a 120-hour TEFL course, and anticipate finishing my certification in late July.
