I am a motivated self starter, with a passion for teaching and a thorough understanding of English language and cultures. Through my 200 hour TEFL course I refined my knowledge of English grammar and honed my teaching skills. Through tutoring maths and physics to GCSE and A-level students (both one-to-one and in classes), I learnt to engage and encourage unmotivated learners whilst exercising class control and organisation.

At The University of Manchester I studied mathematics with financial mathematics. This included business modules, giving me a thorough grounding in business English, financial reporting and management techniques. I enrolled on an extended module that focused on maths education in which I learnt types of learning, levels of understanding, and completed an extended project which included analysis of a lesson.
For six years I have coached table tennis to a range of age groups. This has given me further experience in using a wide range of strategies to create a fun and productive learning environment. At university I was elected president of the table tennis society, here I showed leadership and worked effectively under tight budgetary restrictions.

I am a friendly and enthusiastic individual with 7 years of experience in tutoring and child care. From the age of 15 to 18 years old, I worked for the tutoring company Kumon, assisting children aged between 3-13 with their English and Maths work sheets. During my second year of University, I worked as a STEM Workshop Leader for Aveea Academy. I currently run the cardiopulmonary critical care laboratory at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY where I grew up. In this position, I design injury models and treatments primarily for cardiopulmonary disease and sepsis. I also handle all of the training of procedures and protocols for new lab members. I facilitate an Advanced Trauma Operative Management(ATOM) course for 4th and 5th year surgical residents. I work well under pressure and pride myself in managing my time efficiently. My drive and outgoing personality has allowed me to be successful in professional and personal settings. I also recently finished a 6-year service in the New York Air National Guard as an Aerospace Medical Technician where I served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge(NCOIC) of laboratory operations. In this position, I developed and implemented all training and procedures in the laboratory to ensure patient health and safety. As a Basic Life Support(BLS) Instructor I held classes for the wing to enhance base readiness. In both of these roles I was able to successfully combine my love and passion for both science/medicine and teaching.

I am a passionate, hard working, easy to get along with, and really enjoy working with kids of all ages.

I am originally from the USA, but attended school in Cape Town, South Africa for 3 years, and have been living in working in Mauritius. I have experience living in foreign countries and am able to quickly adapt to new cultures and environments. At the University of Cape Town, I took courses in French and Xhosa, so I understand what it is like to be a student of a language and what methods of teaching are most effective and engaging for students. Taking these language courses has also allowed me to understand the fundamentals of linguistics and the basic building blocks of how languages are structured.

During my time at university, I worked as sports coach at a local high school in Cape Town, in which I gained invaluable experience as an educator, and how to work effectively with teenagers. This job really taught me not only how to manage a group of students, but how to effectively plan out a lesson in a limited time slot, all of which are extremely useful skills that will translate to a classroom setting.

I have also participated in a language exchange program, which gave me the opportunity to meet with a student from the Democratic Republic of the Congo every week and teach them English while they taught me French. This program allowed me to gain experience with instructing non-native speakers in English.

While I may not have formal English teaching experience, I have completed a 120 hour TEFL course, and have worked in various situations that have given me experience with languages, working with students, and teaching. I also believe that my enthusiasm, ability to adapt to new environments, and my communication skills will make me an excellent teacher.
