I am a very motivated individual, always willing to learn new skills. Assuredly, I would be a conscientious and enthusiastic member of staff and do the utmost to provide a high standard of teaching. My punctuality is impeccable, and I work well with others as well as independently.
Earlier this year I graduated from the University of Liverpool and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. The programme itself is accredited by the British Psychological Society with a strong focus on research excellence. The teaching I received during my course was ‘research-led’ in that modules were delivered by leading researchers from a range of disciplines. My experience during my degree has left me with valuable knowledge and transferable skills such as excellent time management, critical thinking, and communication. These are all skills that I believe are important for a teacher to have.
Upon completion of my degree, I started to seriously consider becoming a teacher. Knowing that I have always wanted to travel, I thought why not combine them both and so I enrolled on an online TEFL course with TEFL.org. The course was 120-hours and included a 30-hour grammar course, 50-hour methodology course, 20-hour video observation course, 10-hour telephone teaching course, and a 10-hour teaching large classes course. I greatly enjoyed learning what it takes to be an excellent teacher and how to create a safe and effective classroom environment. I particularly enjoyed lesson planning and incorporating different methods and activities to make the best lesson plans I could. I am a very motivated individual and am eager to start teaching and gain invaluable experience. I am also very excited to immerse myself in a new culture and experience life living in South Korea and really challenge myself in this next stage of my life, including learning Korean.
Outside of academia, I am a keen tennis player. I was a member of the University of Liverpool’s Tennis society and participated in numerous Local Tennis Leagues (LTL) throughout my time in Liverpool. This was a hugely rewarding experience and one that I enjoyed, furthering my skills as a player, and meeting new people socially. Being involved in both the LTL and the society required me to be organised and punctual, turning up to training and matches on time, as well as finding a work/life balance so that I could maximise my potential. In addition to tennis, I like to keep fit through running and often run for charity events. Most recently I ran a 10K race for life in September raising money for Cancer Research UK. It is important to me that I maintain a healthy lifestyle and in doing so I can be the best version of myself. As well as exercising my body, I also enjoy exercising my mind through films and books. I am an avid movie-goer and self-confessed bookworm, and this is something I would love to be able to bring with me into my teaching, potentially setting up or helping with English book clubs and film clubs outside of lesson time.
I am enthusiastic about earning and gaining valuable experience in a challenging role. I have excellent written and oral communication skills, and I am a proficient native-level English speaker. With the experience and transferable skills, I have gained over the past three years of my degree and more recently from the TEFL course, I believe I would thrive in this role and would appreciate your consideration for the post.
