As a professional young woman, I am confident I have the qualifications required to contribute to your field of work as well as add some of my own perspective and experience. While my attached resume outlines my in-depth experience and professional development, it does not fully encapsulate my passion for teaching and shaping the minds of young children. Having been admitted to a mandarin emersion program when I was a child, I understand how important being bilingual is in every day life as well as professional development. It has allowed me to broaden my perspective and appreciate a wide variety of other cultures. My background includes roles such as an English as a Second Language teacher in the Philippines and a Sexual Health Peer Facilitator at Lewis & Clark College. Both of these roles have allowed me to master communication skills and a diligent mindset crucial for this job. Although these positions do not fall neatly under one category, they have pushed me to adapt and react to many different and uncontrollable circumstances. With my psychology major, I am able to understand other people from a very analytical and empathetic position that I believe would be extremely beneficial toward becoming an English teacher. Additionally, as a rhetoric and media studies minor, I will be able to provide effective theoretical and methodological tools for understanding how public messages, images, texts, stories, conversations, and symbols work in diverse societies. I am very passionate about working with children and have even begun work toward achieving my Level 5 TEFL certificate (168 hours).
