I have experience teaching mathematics to both primary and secondary students. I was a teaching assistant for two years as well as a private tutor. I have also been a volunteer football coach, working with children age 10/11. I have found all my experience to be extremely rewarding and beneficial for my leadership and organisational skills. I am an enthusiastic and highly motivated person and believe my experience has proven that i know how to motivate my students and help them succeed.

I bring a wealth of diverse experiences and skills to the table. With over five years of teaching experience, including public schools in China (Chongqing) and holding a TEFL certification, I excel in creating dynamic, student-centered learning environments. My background in psychology enriches my teaching and leadership, allowing me to tailor my approach to individual needs effectively.

Moreover, my background in nutrition and life coaching enables me to support holistic well-being, fostering both personal and professional growth. Firstly, I have a strong academic background. In Secondary School I gained 5A’s at higher level, and was the recipient of several prizes, including for my abilities in the English subject. Afterwards, I continued my studies at Edinburgh University, undertaking a law degree, which I completed with a first class result. These achievements are a testament to my ability to work hard and balance heavy workloads, and demonstrate that I can rise to meet the challenges and rigours that teaching English as a foreign language presents.
My time at the University of Edinburgh was enriched by a year long exchange programme at Fundação Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro. Participation in this exchange fostered a deep appreciation for cultural and intellectual exchange- qualities I am excited to share with students in Korea. Moreover, this experience was highly rewarding, and hence I am confident that teaching abroad, despite being in a new and unfamiliar environment, would be an opportunity where I would flourish.
Secondly, I believe that my experience in education and other fields equips me with the skills and knowledge that make me an ideal candidate for this position. My early experience as a Maths and English tutor at Kumon created a strong foundation for working in educational environments. At Kumon, I worked with children of various ages and was responsible for a number of tasks, including marking the children’s work and explaining concepts that they struggled with. My time at Kumon taught me the importance of building rapport with children to identify where they may have difficulties. It also showed me how to work effectively with others in structured educational environments to achieve the best outcomes.
As I continued on my own academic journey, I built on my existing skills and continued to work as an English tutor, in settings of varying formality. I helped students to improve their reading, writing, comprehension skills and study of English literature. My approach is to ensure education is engaging for my students, tailoring each lesson to fit individual learning styles and needs. I believe that patience and creativity in the learning process has a crucial impact on student success.
Beyond teaching environments, I have gained important skills and traits in my other pursuits. My work as a journalist for The Herald has sharpened my communicative skills. As a journalist, I have learned to convey complex ideas clearly and engagingly—skills that are directly transferable to teaching English as a foreign language. Additionally, my role as an intern at the watchdog for the Scottish Government, Environmental Standards Scotland serves to highlight my professionalism and organisation skills. The tasks I undertook in this position required attention to detail, timekeeping, and the ability to quickly process and relay information. These transferrable skills are crucial to being a dependable and responsible teacher and colleague.

With Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English Language Philology and Linguistics, along with extensive experience working with children in the UK, safety and holistic development have always been at the forefront of my approach. Currently managing After School Programs at one of England's leading Outstanding (OFSTED) academy schools, I am deeply committed to creating an environment where students not only excel academically but also grow socially and emotionally. I have always been a naturally inquisitive and ambitious person. I have long revered the transformative power of education and would love nothing more than to play a role in its dissemination. All my experience with education thus far has been in a volunteer position and now that I have finished university I am ready to take it to the next level. I am incredibly empathetic, creative, and inventive, and my naturally kind demeanor aids me in creating a safe and open learning environment.

I have recently completed my studies in Politics and International Relations at Loughborough University and am graduating on 18/7/24, with an expected result of 2.1. During my studies, I have been exposed to a variety of different teaching strategies and an understanding of the approaches that serve to effectively engage students to learn. My own learning experience during my time at university encouraged me to undertake a placement year in Sri Lanka in 2023 where I had the opportunity to teach English to students aged between 3 to 17. During this time, I gained experience in delivering English language classes both individually and as well as working as part of a group. This experience further developed my communication and public speaking skills to allow me to convey information to classes of up to 60 students, while also being able to work with smaller groups and one-to-one. I found this experience incredibly fulfilling, particularly the positive feedback from the children thanking me and my colleagues for helping them to develop their language skills.

Based on the experience I gained during my time in Sri Lanka, I feel that my ability to be flexible around class sizes and ability levels will stand me in good stead for this role. For example, when preparing for classes, it was very common that there would be a wide range of skill levels across the group being taught which would not necessarily correlate with age groups. On this basis, I needed to be well-prepared with teaching resources and materials that could suit all skill levels and to be ready to adapt as required. This process allowed me to gain valuable experience in preparing and creating teaching materials with limited resources. For example, I created worksheets covering a range of topics carefully taking into consideration whether the difficulty level was appropriate for the intended class. I also found that sub-dividing classes into groups based on current abilities was very useful for some sections of the lesson, to ensure that every student was able to develop their language skills regardless of previous ability.

About my personality, I am an enthusiastic individual who is always open to learning and developing my skills. I am passionate about pursuing a career within education, whilst also exploring different different cultures. Therefore, the flexibility this opportunity provides regarding different ages and locations is therefore incredibly enticing.

Experience-I've worked as a Cover Teacher planning and delivering lessons, assessing student progress and providing feedback.
I also participated in a study abroad program in South Korea studying at Ewha which allowed me to gain international experience and cultural insights.
