ESL Teachers

Skills: Inter-personal skills. Communication. Organisational. Malleability.

For the past 3.5 years, I have volunteered to support young learners between ages 5-11 with basic literacy skills, specifically reading. This has included children who are both native and non-native speakers with a focus to build confidence, vocabulary, comprehension and motivation levels to improve reading skills. I have worked with a number of schools across England and delivered 130 online reading sessions in 2024, some of these, whilst working full-time as a Senior Business Management Lead for a leading retail bank in the UK.

The results and my enthusiasm for developing reading skills has been proven. In 2024 alone, I was asked by 6 schools to extend my support given the impact this had in the pupil’s development. This included a SEN (Special Educational Needs) pupil for whom I had to think creatively to engage the pupil adequately with different materials and games to their ability. In addition, I have dealt with behavioral issues and received feedback from the school that my approach and teaching techniques were working well. The teacher spoke to me directly and said, ‘I don’t know what you’re doing with him but he really enjoyed the session, please continue’ and this was following what I thought was a rocky start. This proved to me that I can be patient, dynamic, responsible and cheerful when needed.

I build relationships and engage very well with people from all age groups. By using my intuition and emotional intelligence I am able to offer guidance, empathise and offer support in many different areas. I have done this in the workplace equally, if members of my own team have needed clarity or additional support I have provided this in a professional manner and with due care. I am also very intuitive as to when someone needs help but is too shy to ask and offer support on a 121 basis.

In the initial stages with a new pupil, the role I play often starts with a firm but friendly tone to instil discipline towards reading though this is very much balanced with a collaborative approach in terms of materials that will be used where the pupil will have an active part to decide this. Throughout the reading programmes, I will play different roles from participant to teacher or even listener.

I am often described by my own younger members of the family as a fun and caring person. However, I am able to balance my assertiveness skills with setting clear boundaries.

My previous line manager has described me as reliable, trustworthy and a self-starter. I can be given briefs which are unclear and ambiguous but I will always find ways to deliver results. This will mean I engage many different people to either work out what I need to deliver or seek support to deliver the results.

I am a proactive, enthusiastic, and adaptable teacher with nearly eight years of classroom experience, specializing in fostering critical thinking and creativity in students. My 150-hour TEFL/TESOL certification and strong classroom management skills enable me to deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that simplify complex concepts and build confidence in learners. I excel in using interactive methods, such as storytelling and role-playing, to create an inclusive environment where students feel inspired to think, act, and dream in English.

While I don’t have formal teaching experience, I have a Level 5 TEFL diploma and a strong enthusiasm for working with children. I have experience as a babysitter, nanny and volunteering with children. My background includes international experiences like studying abroad, which have helped me develop adaptability and cultural awareness.

I am patient, empathetic, and creative, with a genuine love for nurturing young learners. My positive attitude and ability to connect with others help me build strong relationships and create a welcoming learning environment.

Furthermore, I am highly organised and detail-oriented. I also have strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and an awareness of diversity and inclusion, all of which are essential for working in an international setting.

As a recent young graduate, I am seeking a role which allows me to continue
learning and perfecting my skills as I provide high-quality work, and encourages me
to flourish as a young educator.

During my previous experience as an educator assistant I was Assisting Educator’s with facilitating teaching and learning in a classroom environment through using different teaching methods that are learner-centered.

As a student teacher I was familiarizing myself with the school environment through engaging with learners and teacher's and introducing different techniques on how to achieve good results.

I am a hardworking and motivated individual with a readiness to take on new challenges. I enjoy working collaboratively in teams and I have a passion for helping others. I am a reliable and flexible team member and have experience in leadership positions.

I have a CELTA qualification and have previously taught in Wroclaw, Poland where I guided over 50 children through a 6 month English course, with a 100% pass rate.

I have experience creating and adapting teaching materials to suit children of all abilities from ages 4-13.

I have excellent communication skills and can quickly build rapport with students and colleagues.

I am friendly, energetic, outspoken personality very efficient and highly trained individual with strong administrative and organizational skills, accompanied by negotiation, basic accounting, HR administration skills, which add value to the execution of my day-to-day duties. I take pride in everything I do, I have a positive outlook and the ability to rapidly learn new systems makes me effective working in a team or alone.

I run an extra curricular activity at a high school and have been doing it for over eight years. In my interactions with young adults I tutor English literature and language to assist the girls in understanding the curriculum set. Coaching has contributed in my skills of relationship building and interactions, I teach the girls how to strive for their goals, discipline, time management and other life skills that they can carry into their adult life.

Experience: I have two and a half years of experience working in education, with two of those years being in Korea. Culture shock seems to be a big factor when discussing moving abroad for work, and my previous experience in Korea will help me adapt to a new environment again.

Personality: I am patient, flexible, and easy to get along with. At my current school, I am regularly called upon to do tasks that are outside of my normal day to day expectations and I am more than happy to help.

Skills: In college, I took a Dale Carnegie course which focuses on improving people skills, communication, and leadership. The people skills it mostly dials in on are: listening, empathy, appreciation, and interest. In my opinion, all of these skills are a great asset for teachers. I am also very comfortable with technology. I studied Microsoft Office in college, used it for my teaching job in Korea, and am overall very fluent in general computer knowledge.

My teaching philosophy is to provide quality education amongst all the students that I teach, regardless of their differences and cognitive development. I want to ensure that they learn, no matter what differences and personalities they have. I have been teaching English at a hagwon, and I realized that the most organic way of teaching English is through conversation and engaging. Speaking and engagement are my best English teaching tools however, these tools are also guided by the student’s English level. My skills and experiences will have a positive impact in the Korean school society.

In my teaching journey, I have understood that some learners lose interest in studying for many reasons. To overcome this situation, I create learner-centered classrooms and include the learners’ interests and hobbies when I teach. In this way, all the students get to have fun while they are learning new knowledge. My teaching skills include using inclusive teaching strategies that accommodate all different levels of student’s intelligence such as fast learners, middle-level learners, and slow learners. These methodologies include debating, speaking, group work, and pair work. These strategies allow all the students to be actively involved and participate in the classroom, and it makes teaching and learning more beneficial. This also boosts students' confidence and communication skills and improves their self-esteem. It gives them the opportunity to be able to express themselves freely in English.

I believe that a teacher is somebody who learns throughout their lifetime because they learn new things every day. Teachers need to do research every day because they must deliver accurate information to the students. I'm always open to learn from current and experienced teachers. Teaching and learning are two-way street, the students learn from the teacher and the teacher also learns from the students. A good teacher is someone who learns every day. I will also improve my skills by using all available support and learning from more experienced co-teachers. I am also furthering my studies in inclusive education because I found it important to understand different students and be able to accommodate all of them in one lesson. I am grateful for these opportunities and eager to learn from my colleagues to grow my knowledge. I also believe that teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success therefore, I'm willing to express my open-minded attitude and work collaboratively with different groups
