I am a fun, energetic, enthusiastic person! I am outgoing and enthusiastic about languages and have experience with children. I have volunteered at a preschool for several months as well as taught troubled youth at my recent internship before graduating at Boise State University with a major in Social Science this May. I recently received my TEFL Certificate of 120+ hours. I believe language is the key to building ties between people of different cultures and creeds. I am dedicated to not only learning languages, but also to teaching languages to connect others together.

1. I have been an English teacher to elementary and middle school students in South Korea for 1 year.

2. I have worked at a daycare center in America for 5 years as well as worked as a nanny during university.

3. I am currently in training to be a licensed teacher in America for kindergarten.

4. I worked at an elementary school as the media clerk (library), but I also assisted in the classrooms as an aid to the teacher sometimes.

5. I have a bubbly personality, always smiling and trying to make children smile. I'm a very hands-on instructor and like to use games, activities and crafts to assist in learning.

6. Due to my personality and teaching style, I definitely prefer working with younger children in kindergarten instead of older children who don't have much interest.

It is my pleasure to write this precis of my experience and skill set. I am Australian by birth and hold a Bachelor of Arts – Information Management/Librarianship and a Graduate Diploma of Computing. I have in excess of twenty years experience with young adults as the Reference Librarian and as guest lecturer at university in Information Technology and as the Online Courses Administrator. I held the role of librarian each weekend during the school year as well as a full time job in information technology.

I have provided training to colleagues, as well as students. In addition, for many years I have been a Musical Director and music teacher as I have a passion for music. My specialty has been training people aged five years to eighty years to play brass instruments and to polish technique for aspiring career musicians applying for entry into a music conservatorium post secondary or tertiary studies.

For the past few years I have turned my hand to managing homeless shelters for men in Central Australia, this a great number of Aboriginal men were housed in the shelter. I highlight this as the Indigenous peoples of Australia have a different culture and I was successful at being culturally sensitive and at the same time building rapport and respect. In this way, I would do the same in South Korea as I would be just as much a pupil, as the pupils for whom I would teach English.

My wife Jayne and I would like the opportunity to share our passions and love of life and life long learning by living and teaching in South Korea. We have lived much of our lives in Provincial cities and would rather move into less densely populated areas, should we have the opportunity. Jayne has sent her resume under separate cover.

I am a native English speaking British citizen. I am also a native speaker in German and Tamil. I have completed a 168 hour TEFL course recently.

I am passionate about traveling and learning about new cultures. Visiting South Korea last year has inspired me to apply for a teaching position in Korea to pursue my career in teaching as well as learn more about the Korean culture. Over the last 10 years, I have worked with children and young adults in various settings. 2017 – 2018 Engagement Coordinator
Deliver and facilitate high quality, engaging presentations and PSHE sessions to a group of up to 250 students during school assembly in mainstream schools, SEN schools and colleges.

2016 – 2017 Senior Mentor/Assistant Programme Manager
As a Senior mentor, my role was to lead, inspire and pastorally care for a team of up to 12 participants (aged 15-17), ensuring their safety and assisting their personal development through 18 days of intense activities. Work alongside other members of staff to ensure that all young people in the team are engaged and fully participating in all activities. Facilitate and tailor curriculum sessions to the team in an engaging and inspiring way. Lead visits to community partners/charities to deliver social action projects.

2012 – 2013 Trained Volunteer – Victim Support
As a trained volunteer, I provided emotional support to victims of crime on the support line as well as in person. Additional work includes advocating on behalf of victims with other organisations, and working closely with support workers. Trained in Hate Crime, Disability Awareness and Mental Health Awareness.

2011 – present Private Tutor (part-time)
In my spare time I have been tutoring A-level students in Psychology and German to prepare them for their final exams.

2006 – present Tamil Teacher (4 hours every Saturday)
Teach children and young adults (aged 5 – 17) Tamil. This involves teaching them how to speak, listen, read and write the language at various levels ranging from beginner to A-level students.

I am confident in speaking to people one-on-one or to large groups of people, which I believe will help me to be an enthusiastic and effective teacher. My previous work as a swimming instructor, camp group leader and lifeguard has given me plenty of experience interacting with and educating children of all age groups. This experience has given me a foundation of skills in communication and organisation which I hope to build upon by teaching English as a foreign language. Furthermore, my time spent volunteering at a student helpline has given me a deeper understanding of the struggles many students face during their time in education, meaning that I am aware that teachers not only have educational responsibilities, but pastoral responsibilities to their students. With a good balance of energy and empathy, I am confident that I can be a successful teacher to my students and a valuable asset to my employers.

I am a master’s degree educated, qualified EFL teacher with over 10 years’ experience working with children and young adults in various settings. I enjoy being creative and am also keen to use this creativity and my passion to create stimulating lessons to inspire a class. Introspective and lively, I have a variety of outside interests and remain committed to improving my teaching skills further and contributing to the success of the school. Although I have never been to Korea, I grew up in Angola as a 'third culture kid', with Portuguese as my second language. I grew up reading books and have wanted to teach English from a young age. I'm outgoing, well-spoken and have a fairly neutral accent on account of my upbringing. Having received my Bachelors at a university in the UK I'm eager to pursue new experiences, and because of my ongoing passion for reading and writing, the opportunity afforded by TEFL academy to travel and teach English seems like a dream come true.

I do not have any experience as I have recently graduated. I am an open hearted and minded person that can be loud at times. I enjoy being around people. I am computer literate, I have good written and verbal communication skills. I also possess good management and time management skills.
