Hello there!

My name is Liam Windeatt and I am a 22-year-old male from England.
I am very interested in becoming an English teacher in Korea, especially in Seoul! I have just graduated from the University from Brighton with a 2:1 in English Literature.
I have attached my resume and a smiling picture of myself.
In addition to my resume I have also spent time with children, with babysitting and tutoring them grammatical English.
I am also in the process of completing my 120 hour TEFL course.

I am currently studying at the University of Exeter, and will be graduating in June 2019 with a BA in Classics with an advanced proficiency in Italian.

I have completed a 120 Hour TEFL Methodology course and have also worked with ACLE Summer Camps and trhough this have received TEFL TP certification. During these summer camps, I worked with young children, and cherished the opportunity to making learning interesting for these young students; I taught classes whcih were between the ages of 5 and 7.

Since November 2016, I have also been doing online tutoring as part of the MyTutor organisation, helping GCSE students in Maths, English and Latin.

In my spare time I am a member of committee for the University of Exeter Pole Fitness Society, which helps me to manage my time well, and requires me to communicate well with others, both in the society and externally. I enjoy going to the gym and would describe myself as reasonably active.

At my secondary school, I was Head Girl in my final year, which taught me important leadership skills such as delegation, patience, respect and compartmentalisation.

My Strengths which makes me a great fit for the position are my ability to cope with failures and learn from mistakes, my ability to prioritize my work, my analytical thinking skills, my people skills and my love for kids, attention to details. I'm a great Communicator and I work great under pressure. These are few of the skill that I possess that will make me a great fit for the position.

Ever since High School, I had done tutoring as a way to do community service hours, but it eventually became something that I loved. There was a genuine spark inside of me when I was able to watch others grow educationally and understand material that they did not before. As a result, I have been tutoring kids in all subjects from 1st grade to 9th grade for the past 5-6 years and could not think of any better career path than teaching.

I am often a very patient and optimistic person who always see the brighter side of things even when the situation appears grim. I often enjoy working with others in a friendly manner and do my best to be helpful for anyone that may need it. I can work well with Microsoft Office as well as Google Docs in order to maintain an organized work ethic and have experience with figuring out which students may require more individual attention in their studies.

I am a recent graduate from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. I have a strong enthusiasm to learn, travel, grow, and teach. I possess excellent communication skills and leadership qualities while maintaining a strong sense of teamwork and professionalism. I am always considerate and aware of the needs of others. I approach any challenge with an open mind, optimism, critical thinking skills, and sincerity. In the past I have been a part of, as well as have led, large groups of diverse organizations in a variety of settings.

During my time at university I held several workshops in both local high schools and the university itself. The workshops focused on drama and was based on the schools current syllabus. I also helped out with several workshops at my university, with the majority of these being to new students. For the workshops at the university I followed the orders or the lecturers who were running the workshops. But, for the classes held at the local high school it was my job to plan and facilitate.

I would describe myself as someone who is outgoing, hardworking and down for a challenge. As i studied Drama and Theatre studies at university I am also someone who is confident in public speaking and I also pride myself in my ability to work under pressure.

In my spare time I have a passion for photography, with a preference for nature photography. I also enjoy reading and attending the theatre.

I volunteered as a teacher at my previous daycare over my four years of high school. My main job function was to supervise the children during classes, discussions or recess. I would have to teach religious studies during classes and had to create fun interactive classes so the children would learn and avoid boredom. My classes usually involved acting out the bible story that I had just went over so the children could better understand the story and the meaning of it. I would also start every class with a quick game, such as telephone, to get them started and end every class with a group discussion.

My teaching philosophy primarily focuses on making sure that the students learn, enjoy and have an active interest in the the course subject. I have learned from my time as a student in addition to teaching children over the course of four years that students will not actually learn a subject if they do not personally enjoy it. Some students may perform well in class and may score high grades on their tests; however, a student will never retain that knowledge from class and be able to access that knowledge in the future if the students do not personally enjoy how the subject is taught to them. I believe that improving upon three different areas will encourage the enjoyment of learning a subject. These three areas would be creating a safe environment, providing examples that interest the students, and finally to incorporate many interactive and kinetic practices. Firstly, I believe that initially a teacher must create an environment in the classroom that the students feel secure but also to promote an environment where all students can freely express their ideas, creativity and thoughts. Secondly, I have noticed that most students will not be interested in learning about a topic if it is not expressed in an interesting fashion towards the students. For example, if I try to teach the students about how to form sentences on animals but none of the students enjoy animals but instead enjoy superheroes, I will be sure to shift the focus on forming sentences on superheroes. Lastly, I have noticed that most students both enjoy and learn the most from interactive activities such as games, exercises or active discussions and I will be sure to incorporate many of those aspects within my lessons so that they can converse amongst themselves while also learning English.

I have voluntary experience working with high school age children (ages 11-16), with Special Education Needs; I volunteered for 5 weeks with these young adults and alongside the school council team. The purpose of my time in the school was to work closely with the students and with art materials, to allow them quiet time out of their hectic lessons where they could be in calmness and talk to someone non-judgemental and engage in drawing/painting/ coloring.

I have experience of working as a support worker, in a house of four ladies, all with learning disabilities. The role could be challenging at times, as two of the ladies were non-verbal, and lone-working meant I had to be really good at thinking on my feet and be able to trust my own judgement and instinct.

Through reflecting on these experiences I have extremely good levels of patience and decorum- having the ability to be stern and forthright when needed is extremely important, yet on the other end of the spectrum, being comforting and helpful is equally as important.

I am able to alter the way I give instructions to suit the individual, knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the person and being able to adapt is a really important skill.

I have experience working with children aged 3-15. My time volunteering as a teaching assistant in a primary school was short but valuable as I learned how to interact with a group of children who possessed varying learning abilities. Understanding how to keep the children focused for long periods of time and to provide support when they were finding classwork difficult was an essential skill I learned. However, it is important to understand when to be stern in order to keep the respect of the children and control of the situation.

Volunteering within a football summer camp was another experience which taught me a lot about working with children. As the parents would collect the children at the end of the day, this shows that I was trusted to keep the children entertained during the sessions, but most importantly to make sure they were safe at all times.

My devotion to children’s well being, education and creativity has been my mission throughout my career. South Korea seems to value the education of its society very much and have a similar mission to my own which is to allow for exchanges between cultures, languages and ideas that will foster genuine connections between global citizens. With a passion for teaching, a sense of humor and love of each child, these goals are definitely attainable.

As an Afterschool Coordinator, I used my skills and training to teach public and private school students various topics using a combination of art, music and theatre. I supervised staff and implemented behavior management strategies to ensure a positive and enriching environment for the students. As a social worker and counselor, I’ve worked with children, parents and school staff to advise on the improvement of their educational progress and interactions with their peers. Being able to speak Spanish has always proved to be an asset for me in and outside the classroom to cross cultural barriers and better understand the needs of those who require my assistance.

My goal will be to utilize my teaching and theatre skills to develop a positive school culture within the classroom and to instill a deep love of learning in each student. I hope that by coordinating with staff and faculty to implement behavior models and other supportive systems, this will ensure the success of all students.
