I have 5 years experience teaching ESL. I started working in a Spanish school teaching children from 3 – 17 years old. While working there I worked in an academy Part-time preparing students for their exams. Then I worked 2 years online teaching students from China. Later I worked 1 year in an academy teaching children and preparing adults for their exams.

allows students to speak more and be free to make mistakes, learn from them and try again. My style of teaching is flexible to the students I have in class. I apply some psychology skills into my teaching methods to help me understand my students better and know how to teach them the best possible way. My classes also make use of games and group activities.

Education: I graduated from the University of Exeter, a prestigious Russell Group institution, with first-class honours in BA English and Film. Since leaving university, I have travelled extensively while gaining qualifications as a teacher of English. I have visited twelve countries over the past year including Norway, Sweden, and Mongolia during an independently devised expedition to drive overland from Italy to Mongolia.

Experience: When I returned in February, I worked diligently to secure qualifications as a TEFL instructor with my Level 5 198-hour Combined TEFL Certification, including modules in Online, Telephone, Large Class, Business teaching, and a 30-hour practical methodology course. For years, I have nurtured my love for teaching and found great joy in helping others to grow into inspiring individuals. From my work as a peer tutor to my volunteering work, sharing knowledge became my life-goal. I wish to satisfy this passion, and have chosen to seek this path abroad as I am also particularly interested in the exchange of diverse cultures. During my time travelling, I found interacting and sharing variegated cultures a deeply rewarding experience which I immediately pursued in my TEFL training.

Personality: I am energetic, creative, friendly, and most of all hardworking. I relish a challenge and commit myself to always performing to the best of my abilities. I am passionate about the arts in all forms, and spend my free time satiating my creative hungers through photography, film, music, and maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle as an avid sportsman. I am a well-educated young professional with a background in science. I have an undergraduate degree in marine science and an MSc degree in coastal and marine management. I have a high standard of oral and written English, developed from 5 years of academic essay and report writing. While I lack practical teaching experience, I have just recently completed a 120 hour online TEFL course and I have presentation experience from my academic and professional career.

I have a personality well-suited to teaching; I am patient, knowledgeable, creative and kind. I am a friendly and outgoing person and I am easy to get along with. I have a keen interest in languages and I would like to learn Korean while I am in the country, I feel that this will also help me with my TEFL goals.

I am naturally an outgoing person who enjoys being in the company of other people. This skill and the ability to communicate effectively were further sharpened whilst I was doing the TEFL course at the University of the Witwatersrand language school, where we had 120 hours of practical experience teaching adult students.

I am a person who is bubbly but also assertive and enjoys connecting with others. I have a natural and easy affinity towards creating engaging with people and being able to learn from them, as they do me. One thing that I am proud to have learned whilst doing the TELF course, was creating learning environments where students felt a strong confidence to speak in a way that provided learning for all those involved – myself included. I think teaching is not just about talking at students, especially in a language class. Teaching is about creating a space where students can naturally use the tools and lessons from the classroom, in a more natural way. I was fortunate enough to learn this skill through the TEFL course.

Part of the skills that I have learned and implemented during the practical teaching was how to make learning communicative and relatable to the students and also how to effectively manage a classroom. This is especially important when working with adults who may view an authority figure in the classroom differently to younger students. The ability to create a motivation for students to want to learn – be it intrinsic or external was something that I also learned.

To be a teacher is not just to be a person who gives information to students. But to be a teacher is also to be a person that allows students to open up and be receptive to acquiring knowledge in a way that is more suitable to the demographic in the classroom and also to create an environment where peer learning and discussions can naturally occur. I believe that my outgoing, friendly and easy flowing personality allows for such an environment, while still obtaining respect and professional boundaries.

I'm a freelance writer who lives and works in Philadelphia. I have several years of experience tutoring children and teens in English, and I've written for various online and print magazines. I'm enthusiastic about English, and I'm looking forward to teaching it in Seoul.
