ESL Teachers

As an Engineer and a former Team Leader, I found daily teaching opportunities at work and have developed the way I help colleagues to understand difficult concepts. It was often expected of me to help people understand the signal processing concepts in a way that suited them. These ‘teaching moments’ involved maths, equations, or problem solving.

After finding this aspect of my job so enjoyable, I began volunteering with young people aged 10-14 years as a Scout Leader in 2018. This role allowed me to teach young people life skills, social skills and just generally share information with them in a teaching or mentor capacity. For example, I developed a game to help the Scouts understand how world trading works between different economies, and co-ordinated the young people in a workshop where we played it. Further to this experience with young people, I helped to raise my youngest sister, who is twelve years my junior. I helped her with her studies and whatever skills she wanted to improve.

Generally, I am a cheerful, calm go-getter. I like gaining new experiences and enjoy chances to improve myself or my skills. Even if I make mistakes, I look at them as learning opportunities and creative ways to either work with or around problems. These parts of my personality have led me to take a sabbatical from Engineering in order to move abroad with my wife (Alice Bagnall, who has already applied), and take on ESL teaching in order to improve the way I communicate with others and share my native English with those who can benefit from it. My strengths lie in organization, taking the initiative, remaining calm under pressure and always maintaining optimism.

I am currently working as an au pair in Italy mainly teaching a 10 and 12 year old English. Before Italy I was teaching English in a primary school in Hunan, China which I thoroughly enjoyed. Previous to moving to China, I studied Criminology at Teesside University, graduating with a 2:1. I am a positive, enthusiastic and committed individual who is willing to explore new and different opportunities. I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people as I am very outgoing and love finding ways to help them and to have a positive impact on their life whether it be small or large. I am honest, trustworthy and a great team player willing to achieve any challenge given to me. I am now looking for my next adventure and teaching experience. I love experiencing new countries and cultures and I am a fun and enthusiastic teacher. I have been described as very responsible and organised and I give 100% to anything I do.

I have experience with personal and group tutoring, usually centering my lessons around team building and learning. Outside of formal and informal tutoring, I worked with my university's International Department to aid in student's learning their target language while also immersing them in American culture. My peers would describe me as fun-loving and creative, which makes me a good match for younger learners. However, I personally would describe myself as a hard working, goal-oriented, organized person, who is able to approach language teaching from different angles. I am also TEFL Certified and am currently at an intermediate level in Korean language skill.

I have a lot of experience teaching students in both Korea and England which I believe is a strength that I have. I taught in Korea for nine months and was teaching students aged between 4-13 years. The lessons that I taught primarily consisted of phonics, grammar, writing, reading, maths, art, science, P.E. and other lessons as well. Every Monday and Friday, I taught extra phonics lessons once the kindergarten finished for an extra hour to those students who required the extra help.
In England, I worked as a teaching assistant in a Reception to Year 1 class (4-6 years old) and in a Year 2 (6-7 years old) for a year each. I was assigned various tasks by the teacher to help the students and the class when needed. I worked with small groups of children to help them with their mathematics and their writing skills as they struggled with both. I also worked one on one with students who needed help in different subjects. I also worked closely with those who had additional needs such as ADHD and autism.

I think that I have the ability to develop relationships with their students. As teachers we need to be able to build trusting relationships with students in order to create a safe, positive, and productive learning environment and being able to engage students in learning.

I feel like I have a patient, caring, and kind personality which is what is required to be a good, helpful teacher. As a teacher you need to understand the knowledge of the learners. This includes an understanding of how students learn at a given developmental level; how learning in a specific subject area typically progresses like learning progressions or trajectories; awareness that learners have individual needs and abilities; and an understanding that instruction should be tailored to meet each learner’s needs.

Finally I have the dedication to teaching. Dedication refers to a love of teaching or passion for the work, which includes commitment to students’ success.

I am a recent Bachelor of Arts graduate from Stellenbosch University, Cape Town. I have many years of customer service and leadership experience, therefore I am comfortable in diverse and adaptive environments. I love to continually challange myself and to grow, as a life long learner and community member. My strengths can be found in my ability to lead as well as work in a team, empathize and delegate simultaneously, mentor and be mentored. I am a passionate and creative problem solver. I am involved in the world around me through current affairs and community projects. I grew up loving nature and wildlife, arts and culture, and the people of my country. My skills are founded in linguistics and problem solving. I am also experienced in marketing and SEO, and online communications. It would be a privilege to be considered for a position to teach and impact the lives of others positively.

I am a teacher from the UK ten of teaching experience. I have been Head of Department for Religious Studies for six years and have helped students and staff achieve outstanding results. I also have experience teaching of English, History and PSHE.
I am seeking a new challenge in my career and I am really excited to be able to work in an international setting helping students to learn English. The opportunity to learn about a new culture is also exciting for me and look forward to learning a lot more as my into ESL teaching. I am currently studying for my TEFL qualification and I expect to complete this in April.

Whilst I have experience of managing staff in school the thing I enjoy most is working in the classroom with my students. I work hard to make lessons exciting and I inspire my students to achieve their potential. I am a sociable person and I love working with people, which is why I enjoy working in the classroom so much. I take pride in my students doing well and I work hard to support them with good feedback on their work and support on how to make progress during each lesson.
I am also always happy to receive feedback on my teaching as this also helps me to be a better teacher and this is also why a new challenge is exciting for me.

I believe that I would be a good candidate for this job role, as I am a passionate and hard-working individual who is always looking for a new challenge. I enjoy working with and assisting others, whilst aiming towards a mutual goal.

Furthermore, I have experience with customer service through banking and insurance jobs. During these jobs I learnt the importance of building a strong rapport with customers and colleagues in order to more efficiently complete my assigned work. This experience can be applied to teaching and working in the educational sector, as you need to build strong relationships with both students and colleagues.

I myself developed these strengths in order to successfully learn Spanish. In 2017, I was granted a scholarship to study abroad at Colombia’s Los Andes University. While on exchange, I successfully completed Spanish level B2, learned how to dance salsa, and made lifelong friendships.
I am looking at the opportunity of teaching in Korea with light in my eyes. I chose this destination because of its respectability. I have heard that Koreans are hard-workers, innovative, creative, and always « one step ahead » in relation to the rest of the world. I am eager to live in a country motivated by success and, to contribute to its success by teaching the most important tool to maintain it: communication.
As a musician, I developed a good ear. Listening is as important as speaking. Music can be compared to waves that come and go from the ocean to the shore. I say with confidence that I have the ability to channel these waves in order to produce results. Whether it be a song or an English lesson, I have the ability to transcend a person’s ignorance in order to give them a gift: knowledge.
