Having graduated with a BSc in Psychology and currently being on course for a high 1rst class honours in my MSc, I am currently in the top 25% within my year over the lass 10 years. My current master’s project will involve the recruitment and testing of approximately 100 participants, which will involve me gaining substantial experience in describing complex terms and procedures to naïve participants. The demanding nature of my MSc programme highlights that I have the willingness and motivation needed to succeed in my Postgraduate studies, as well as within my future workplace.

My diverse cultural background and linguistic skills have enabled me to converse with most clients and students, with the added ability of being able to work with various types of people, which has helped me integrate easily into different teams.

I have a thirst for knowledge, and in particular for language. Despite already being bilingual, I am currently self-teaching myself Korean and Chinese. In addition, I have expertise in teaching and communication, as highlighted by my 120-hour TEFL certificate and the skills developed throughout my BSc (for instance, presenting at a student conference).

Striving to gain experience in welfare and support, I have undertaken an assistant job at Diane Webb therapies and coaching LTD, as well as a Welfare Officer position at the Birmingham Ki-Taekwondo club, which have given me insight into how the minds of different individuals from different backgrounds work.

Given my proficiency in teaching, student welfare/support and demanding studies, I believe that I am an ideal candidate for this role.

Clinton Cameron here. I am an Irish and South African citizen currently living in sunny South Africa. I have a bachelor’s degree with an English major as well as an honours degree in psychology. I am also a Master’s degree student in clinical psychology and I have practiced as an intern clinical psychologist at hospitals and clinics which has added valuable experience in working with children. In terms of teaching, I am in the process of completing a 120 hours TEFL certificate in the next few days. Furthermore, I have multiple years of experience teaching and tutoring English. I have worked in South Korea (one year), Taiwan and South Africa teaching English as a second or foreign language to students of all ages, particularly kindergarten to elementary and middle school age groups. Some of this experience includes fun and interesting ways of teaching children with LEGO StoryStarter sets which was one of the primary teaching methods when I had my own small teaching business. I have also tutored Maths, Science and Engineering.

Therefore, I can with confidence say that I am skilled in phonics, assessments, therapy and counselling, classroom management, innovative learning methods, teaching speaking, reading, listening and writing from beginner to advanced levels, business English, academic English, IELTS and so on.

All of the above says a lot about my personality as well. I am an intelligent and humorous person with a profound sense of adventure. I have a keen interest in learning new languages and hope to immerse myself in the Korean language. I enjoy working with children and can be a lot of fun in my interactions with them. Yet I am also very disciplined and able to apply myself through hard work and knowledge. I am outgoing and enjoy working with people; however, with that being said I also enjoy time to read, reflect and think. Furthermore, my friends have told me that I am a gentle and loving person – I often am referred to as a ‘gentle giant’ due to being quite tall and caring.

I am a fun, loving and charismatic individual. I have a passion for teaching as well as learning new things. I am a university graduate with majors in English, History and Sociology and I am currently completing my 300hr TEFL Diploma. I am a huge peoples person and love interacting with students. I have 10+ years of experience in several different industries that have benefitted me with many desirable skills. In addition, I have one year of experience in Chinese classrooms Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) to children at the primary, middle school, high school and university levels. I am currently finishing a two-year term with Chungdahm Institute at a branch in Songpa-gu, Seoul.

It is very important to me that each student in my classroom is reached – no matter their English proficiency. Children have great value in this world and are worth the investment we should choose to make in them. Children can come from the most ornate and wealthy homes or they can come hungry and from nothing. No child chooses their starting point or their economic situation. With this consideration, I feel it is a tremendous exercise of skill and compassion when a teacher can consistently connect and effectively educate the most-advanced student in class, the least-advanced student and every student in-between. This is a skill I have been successful with as well as completely humbled by. Thankfully, I can look in the mirror more days than not and say that this is a skill I am consistently flexing and succeeding with. As with any skill or strength, it is important to always try to improve it any way possible too. And, I work to achieve constant improvement in this endeavor. 

During my undergraduate degree, I had the opportunity to study abroad twice in South Korea. In turn, this has developed my personality and identity greatly to become a charismatic and inter-personally skilled individual. I always strive to push myself out with my comfort zone and this has enabled me to mould and adapt to new surroundings and possess cultural sensitivity. On top of this, I speak intermediate Korean as I undertook Korean classes during my exchange.

During my study abroad at the University of Seoul, I worked part-time as an English Teacher to university students weekly. My strengths lied within my organisation skills and attention to detail as I created my own lesson plans and materials each week for a class size of 10+ Korean students. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching conversational English and adapting my teaching style to Korean culture which stresses the importance of collectivism. Therefore, I encouraged everyone to work in pairs and groups to create discussions and boost their confidence.

I have gained my 120-Hour TEFL Certificate which included online courses and an in-person teaching component.

My personality radiates approachability, friendliness and warmth – which I believe is extremely important within the classroom and working with children.

Because I grew up in Seattle, Washington, I speak English at a native level. I have experience teaching at Huntington Learning Center in Bothell, Washington.

I am a recently qualified TEFL teacher (I gained my qualification through The TEFL Org), finishing in October 2020. Despite my little in-person teaching experience, I am ready to become fully immersed into the world of TEFL. I taught conversational English to non-British people in my local area in 2018, and in January of this year I began teaching English online. I have wanted to move to South Korea for a while now yet due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been unable to. However, I am ready and willing to start the journey and I cannot wait for the possibility of teaching. I would say that I am a very warm, sociable and friendly person who thrives on being around people. What I am equally looking forward to, however, is the cultural exchange; my endeavour to learn Korean gradually is one step towards this! My History degree equipped me well with confidence, the ability to communicate, and being easily adaptable. My open-mindedness and willingness for hard work will no doubt aid me in my attempt to really succeed in a school, and I cannot wait for the opportunity to show this.

I am CELTA certified and have experience teaching pre- and upper-intermediate multilingual classes of students, tailoring lessons according to research and analysis of student need, employing original and authentic texts, and creating activities targeting receptive and productive skills and language systems.
