ESL Teachers

I have years of experience working with children between the ages of 4-16 both within and outside of a classroom setting. One of the most recent of theses experiences was teaching English as a second language in Nairobi, Africa for three months to 5-6 year olds. I was the sole teacher of a class containing 38 students and was responsible for teaching english (as a send language), math, science, art, music and sports. It was also my responsibility to plan these lessons and create handouts/ worksheets for the children to use both in class and as homework.

Furthermore, I have other teaching experience within my church congregation where I teach a gospel centred lesson each week as well as within my university where I host weekly revision sessions for first year students (typically 18-19 years old).

I have a patient and nurturing personally. I'm confident and outgoing but am warm and easy to get along with.

My husband will be moving to South Korea at the end of September with the Military to be stationed in the Osan airforce base for 1 year so ideally I would love to be a placed on a school close to him.

Certain skills, strategies and personality traits contribute to the makings of a successful teacher, but it is important that teachers care about their students. Some skills and strategies that I will bring to the classroom include patience, creativity, the ability to get down on a child's level, a willingness to not only impart knowledge, but to learn from my students, and the ability to adapt to change. Accommodating various learning styles is key. Overall, and where applicable and appropriate, I love for my lessons to be fun, creative and unorthodox.

I was fortunate enough to work mostly with children during the completion of my practicum hours during my Psychology degree. I had the opportunity to develop and implement psycho-educational exercises with children of various ages and backgrounds. I have also worked as a tutor, both privately and at my university. I had a volunteer experience that allowed me to work with young children that did not speak English very well. I had to implement educational exercises with the help of a co-teacher. I then worked as an au pair in the US, where I looked after two children who experience learning difficulties. Most recently, I worked as an English language instructor in both China and South Korea, teaching students aged 5-15 years old.

By working in adult ESL classes, babysitting, helping young family members and friends' children with their English homework, and even in daily costumer service work, my strengths have been patience and being able to listen to the person I am working with and communicate well with them to resolve and potential misunderstandings or problems. I am a very kind a generous person and by showing my bright personality, I have been able to gain the trust and liking of the people I have worked with. I believe my personality and skills will be a great match when teaching English!

I have worked in a professional setting where my job is to teach complex and important banking procedures. I work along side risk teams and auditors where our main role is to relay information to stakeholders.

Personality wise, I am enthusiastic and passionate about any role I take on. I am adaptive and aim to stay positive, everyday is a opportunity to learn. I have been described as a mediator by my work colleagues and able to engage people on all sorts of levels. I have a love for travel and learning new cultures, I am also in the process of learning a 3rd and 4th (French & Russian) language at the moment so, have experience at being a language student as well.

My Myers Briggs personality test is Assertive Entrepreneur and my strengths are bold, Rational and Practical, Original, Perceptive, Entrepreneurs, Direct and Sociable. My work place habits are described as,” In just about any environment, the workplace included, it’s pretty easy to spot Entrepreneurs. Boisterous and spontaneous, fun-loving and maybe a little crass, people with the Entrepreneur personality type love tackling problems as they arise and telling great stories about their solutions afterwards. Naturally, some positions work better with these qualities than others, but Entrepreneurs are adaptable individuals, and can find a way to make just about any situation a little more interesting”.

Communing from a range of positions I have picked up many skills, listening, data management, stakeholder engagement, horizon scanning, risk management, risk mitigation, contract negotiations, contract writing, supplier engagement, resource management, supplier chain management.

Although these skills are banking related, I believe that the fundamentals of each of them is transferable, I am capable at engaging in all manners, whether one to one or large groups. I have worked with sorting large amounts of data, so my organisational skills and preparations are at a high level.

I am currently finishing up my 120 hour TEFL certification.

I have experience as a volunteer youth mentor working with at-risk youth in my community. I was part of an after-school program that was a mix between homework time and physical activity time.

I developed computer-based language learning games for a local Indian language and culture organization.

I always try to remain calm and I have a patient temperament. I always stay curious and try to approach challenges from new angles.

I have an education and work background in computer science so, I'm very comfortable with incorporating technology and data into my everyday tasks.

I love playing and creating traditional tabletop role-playing games as well as other story-driven games. This has given me a lot of practice creating games with rules that are clear and engaging to my audience. I have played these games with people around the world of all ages.

I am a BSc graduate with experience teaching multilingual classes of between 5 and 15 students. I have mainly taught teenage students (age 12+) but happy to take on classes of any age. I am competent at preparing my own lesson plans, selecting appropriate texts and adapting ESL materials.

Creating a strong sense of respect is extremely important for me in a classroom. Throughout my practicum hours, I was taught that creating a bond with your students and making them comfortable create a strong sense of respect for both the students and the teacher. Another strength I bring from my experience is that of writing. Being in school for Mass Communication has created a lot of opportunities for my work to be published and consumed by the public. I am kind and supportive. I will be there to help my students through every step of the way. I am open, students can feel comfortable coming to me for help. I am also someone who isn't afraid to experience hardships and new things, I will face any challenge head-on making the best of any opportunity. I am skilled in not only writing but also speaking, I also come from a long line of teachers and am well versed in teaching techniques.

Personality
Bright, fun, energetic English teacher who takes a creative approach to learning English. Makes it fun and interactive, since learning a language should be challenging but fun. Very diligent and punctual. Helps students individually since students learn through different methods (auditory, visual, etc).

I have obtained a Bachelors degree from the University of Pretoria in Human Physiology, Psychology and Genetics, and a 120-hr TESOL certificate from the International Open Academy. I possess good computer skills, good time management, communication and interpersonal skills. I consider myself an organised, enthusiastic, patient and energetic individual, who can easily adapt to new environments, and this makes it easier to work with different people.

– I have strengths in working well in a team with teaching and non-teaching staff, by for example helping out with school events such as Music concerts, Sports Day and School trips. I have assisted with the administration paperwork for these events in a Trainee Teaching Assistant role when I was doing my placement at Bowerham Primary School in Lancaster, UK.

– Skills:

– Through completing my Teaching Assistant placement and qualification (NVQ) I have now developed my interpersonal skills by knowing how to effectively listen and communicate with the classroom teacher on the KS2 English curriculum as well as knowing how the school regulates exams for their pupils and the methods they use to teach English to an ESL pupil. I can take all my Teaching Assistant training and put those skills to use in an ESL Teacher role in South Korea to a younger class range.

– I have greatly developed my self-initiative/problem-solving skills having had some experience working in a Primary school, so I can now confidently in an English teaching role have the initiative to solve the solutions to problems whether it be an IT/technical issue for a lesson starter.

– Through my Teaching Assistant training as well as retail/sales work I have gained a more commercial awareness of how each organisation or educational institution operates. For a school that can be their 'Ethical values' and for a workplace 'Mission Statement/Core principles'. So, to have a working knowledge of that particular school and an English Teacher role in an Asian country will also stand you in good stead in a virtual interview with the employer.

– I have now more in depth organisational skills from having some experience in a Teaching Assistant role and taking on Administration tasks to support the classroom teacher such as photocopying, printing and putting up displays of pupils work in the classroom. So, having undertaken these in this role I can now apply them to an ESL Teacher role. My multi-tasking skills have greatly improved from having some experience working in an school setting, and this skill is very much needed in an English Teaching position especially in educational institutions in other countries particularly South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China.

Personality Traits:

– I have a lot of determination as an individual and employee- one of my key personal attributes, and I have demonstrated this in non-teaching job roles and I did so in my Teaching Assistant position when I was tasked by another teacher to do classroom Behavioural Management with a group of pupils in year 3 as they had been disrupting their peers from their class project on creative writing so I gave them a warning (based on a traffic light system) (red) in a firm manner, if they continued to misbehave them I would give them a written warning (amber), and if that failed then they would be sent to to the headteacher. So I could apply this classroom behaviour tactic at one of your schools in South Korea.

– I am a hardworking individual and I like to seek more responsibility and a work load, and I did this as a Trainee Teaching Assistant to show the teacher I was supporting as well as the other teaching staff that I am hardworking and I won't slack on the job.
