ESL Teachers

I am applying for the position of teacher of English as a foreign language at your school in South Korea. I have a Joint BA (Hons) degree in English and History from Manchester Metropolitan University and I’m currently studying my Level 5 TEFL course. I have extensive experience of working with both children and adults in a variety of roles and will bring both my academic and practical experience to the role of teacher.

The two things I always knew I wanted to do when growing up was teaching and travelling. Teaching because I love the challenge of helping others grow and learn; and travelling because meeting new and interesting people and experiencing another country’s culture and history is an experience, in my opinion, that cannot be surpassed.

In my work with young people and adults I have often worked with people with special educational needs and disabilities which has enabled me to develop many useful and relevant skills – patience and understanding being the key ones. Not everyone masters skills or learns at the same speed or in the same way and to be a good teacher you need to accept this key fact from the start to enable individuals to meet their learning potential. The many skills I have developed in communication and teamwork underpin good classroom and behaviour management.

I am a hardworking, creative and organised individual and believe I am an ideal candidate for this role. Through my degree I have very well-developed skills in reading, writing and verbal communication and have an extensive knowledge of the English language both in its modern technical form and in its historical versions throughout literature in history. My interpersonal skills allow me to communicate with other teachers easily whilst also allowing me to control and communicate with the students in my care.

I have recently completed a 168-hr Level 5 TEFL course and have 7 years experience teaching and coaching in primary schools. I have worked for various football clubs, in these roles I coached football and taught a variety of subjects in schools such as English, PE, maths, and PSHE. I am used to planning and delivering lessons to full classes and small groups. I have experience producing resources for lessons, using various techniques for different learner types, and behaviour management.
I enjoy travelling to new countries and experiencing different cultures. In my spare time I like to play and watch various sports and cook.

I have a good amount of skills within child care and being around children. I have 3 small family members who I have lived with for the past year and helped to take care of and help through online teaching. I have also volunteered for school events and field trips with the local school.

I have a bright and positive personality and I think I get along really well with children and can connect with them on different levels. I think my creative skills within art and design is also critical to this as I have found that children love the visual aspects of learning or drawing and I think I really help with that.

I am also a patient and understanding person and know that everyone learns at their own pace. I rarely get angry and prefer to have a strong rapport with students.

I am a very upbeat and cheerful person with lots of smiles. I am patient, attentive, empathetic, and flexible, with active listening skills. In addition, due to my extensive Asian travels, I have general cultural awareness, with cross-cultural empathy & behavioural flexibility skills.

I've tutored undergraduate students for four years. And I've tutored English to middle schoolers.

I would describe myself as a language obsessive, spending a good portion of each of my days learning and reading in foreign languages, with my current ambition being to speak over ten conversationally by the time I reach thirty. I recently graduated with First Class Honours in a BA French and Philosophy degree at UCL, in which I excelled in particular in my French literature modules despite coming from a monolingual household. Furthermore, for the past two years I have been learning Hindi, as prior to Covid-19 it had been my desire to move out there, and I also speak fluent Spanish from my time teaching English in Chile. If offered the post with you in South Korea, not only could I bring my knowledge of French and Spanish to help organise optional classes for the students, but I'd be keen to learn the Korean language from them as well.

My time teaching English in Chile revealed a lot to me about the things that are most useful when trying to teach a class a new language. Most of my students had little hope of leaving the small town of Coihaique where we were situated, and so the desire to learn English itself was something I immediately recognised in them as rather diminished. My teaching approach therefore tried to focus on the ways in which the English language did bare relevance on their lives, as I incorporated elements from video games and films into my class, and did a lesson where I talked about Arsenal football club, my team, and incidentally also the home of superstar Chilean footballer Alexis Sanchez at the time. Such approaches I thought helped keep the class more engaged, and certainly prevented my lessons from being tedious exercises of repetition or copying-out verb tables.

I am outgoing by nature, and really excited by the possibility of working with you in what would be a completely new environment for me, where I am sure I will live up to the challenge. I would hope to convert my wealth of knowledge on language learning itself into a valuable asset for you, and a likeable teacher for the students, and would be sure to engage myself in all aspects of scholastic life.

I have a lot of experience living abroad which began in 2016 during my Chinese Studies degree, which gave me the amazing opportunity of moving to China for a year. I absolutely loved it, and from this experience I know that I will easily be able to adjust to life in Korea. I have already experienced homesickness and culture shock, and I am certain that next time I encounter it I will easily cope. I am an outgoing, sociable and optimistic individual, and one of my favourite things to do is brighten other peoples' day. I am fond of learning languages, and thanks to my adaptability I am able to pick up new languages quickly, which I hope to do in South Korea with the Korean language. I am well-organised, dependable and reliable, so people can always count on me.

I have been teaching English online through a website called cambly for 4 months now and I teach both children and adults. I am very patient with their language learning and very upbeat to keep the class interesting. I am flexible with my teaching to accommodate with the different types of people that I teach so that they stay engaged with the lesson.

I have experience private tutoring english to students in Taiwan.
I have taught students ages 5-8 years old. I have also taught two adults that were 20 yrs old with conversational English. I am still currently teaching two students online in Taiwan while I'm in the Us right now due to the pandemic. I am energetic about teaching and feel motivated to improve the English of ESL students while also helping them be able to enjoy the language as a whole.

The position of entry-level English Teacher in South Korea is incredibly interesting on two counts. Firstly, I would love to develop the skills I have recently learned on my TEFL course in a classroom environment. I believe that my calm and open manner will encourage students to approach their learning with enthusiasm whilst acknowledging that mistakes are a necessary aspect in any learning curve. Furthermore, the school environment appeals to my own upbringing and fond memories of secondary school. I graduated from Ripon Grammar School in 2017 and would love to return to a similar community of learners whose focus is not distracted by a busy urban setting. I should also note that despite my experiences as a university student in London, which did serve to develop aspects of my character, I came to the recognition that I am best suited to smaller environments in which it is easier to make meaningful connections with those around you. It is for these two principal reasons that I look forward to teaching in a new and refreshing learning environment this coming academic year.

In addition to my command of the English language, my deep personal interest in literature has served to develop my understanding of the intricacies of the language whilst also opening my eyes to cultures different to my own. I have both a clean criminal record and driving licence, whilst my vaccination record includes a double vaccination against COVID-19. Finally, I have developed my ability to communicate with teenagers and adults throughout the past several years in my role as a football coach. I amassed international coaching experience in the 2017-18 season in my role as an Assistant Coach in Hong Kong. In addition to coaching with my local football club, Ripon City Panthers, I further improved my ability to communicate detailed instructions in my role as UCL Women’s Football Team Head Coach during the past two football seasons. This role was taken in tandem with my FA Level 2 in Coaching Football certificate. I believe these experiences have shaped my interest in teaching and my ability to serve as an effective communicator.
