Notes on Experience, Skills and Personality.

I have been involved in the field of teaching English in Asian countries for more than five years.

As an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher, I have been teaching in the People’s Republic of China for over four years, teaching English language at training centers in Kunshan, Yangzhou and Jiangdu in Jiangsu province.
Before coming to China, I stayed in Thailand for over a year, where I earned the TESOL/TEFL teaching qualification and taught English language at various schools. In July 2013, I travelled to Thailand to enroll in a formal in-class TESOL/TEFL training course there.

I am from South Africa, holding university degrees in the building disciplines (B Architecture and B Building Arts). Further, I have completed various short course certificated university or college level studies relating to business and management, project management, technical subjects and soft skills courses. I also engaged art study and practice classes at a technical college and with private art teachers.

Prior to entering the field of teaching, I worked in both the public and private sectors as an architect and project manager in South Africa.

In 2006, I joined a major British multinational design consultancy in Qatar, Middle East, as an architect. Two years later I returned to South Africa and worked in the field of real estate as a property consultant for two different property companies.

Globally, I have travelled or worked in nine countries, including trekking with friends in the magnificent Annapurna mountain range of Nepal.

I feel a strong sense of duty to deliver a value added service. I believe in value creation. I regard myself as bound to being honest, respectful, responsible and professional to highest ethical standard in my duty to others. I put focus on being thorough. I embrace openness to diversity of opinion, adventure and appreciation of art. I love and practice art. I strive towards creative expression. I have a general outlook of cheerfulness and optimism. I believe in positive engagement and positive outcomes. I seek peace above hard confrontation. I have a high regard for the importance of social skills such as communication, leadership, motivation and team building. I care about the welfare of people. I am serious about important matters but I am also very fun-loving on less serious matters.

My name is Beth Jones and I have graduated from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, with an Honours degree in Arts (First Class Honours). I believe myself to be a happy, witty and outgoing person who shares my love of learning every day and would bring this energy to a teaching position. My hobbies and interests include, but are not limited to, reading, playing piano, learning languages (conversational Japanese and Arabic) and socialising with friends.

Having graduated from the University of Southern Queensland with an Honours degree majoring in English Literature and History I am a confident and clear communicator. I have a great passion for the English language that I enjoy passing on to others. Throughout my time at university I had experiences with mentoring other students, including running an orientation program for new Arts students and running a small peer study group. My time running a peer mentor group at my university was very rewarding. I especially enjoyed the challenge of thinking up fun and exciting ideas to engage with a wide range of learners – I would love the challenge of doing this with a class learning English. I would relish the opportunity to engage with classes of varying ages and skill levels, while having the opportunity to meet new people and experience a new culture.

During my gap year, i lived abroad and volunteered as a teaching assistant. Since then, i've been working with or around children in a school environment for 5+ years. These experiences have giving me a different perspective on teaching. It has allowed me to be open minded. It taught me to be flexible and to easily adapt to things which i may not have been familiar with. I love working with children because they are such fun to be around and no two days are the same; and i equally love travelling and immersing myself in a new culture.

I have a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and I just finished my 120-hour TESOL course. I am eager to start teaching and share my English knowledge to other people. I am not a native speaker, but here in the Philippines, English is one of our two major languages. Also, I am studying online to get a certificate in teaching Business English and Teaching Young Learners.

As for my experience, I have informally tutored Korean children one to one to introduce to them the English language and some Korean adults to help them improve their English skills.

I am fond of Koreans and I have some basic background information about Korea. I also know how to read and write Hangeul and I can speak few basic conversational Korean.

I am passionate about work and willing to relocate. I can work independently but also work so well with a team. Most importantly, I have the will to learn. I am a fast learner and can easily grasp things. I hope you consider my application.

I know this is a long shot because some countries prefer Native English speakers but I know I can be a great English teacher to Koreans.

As a Mass Communication graduate, I also have some knowledge with basic marketing, public relations, photography, videography, basic photo and video editing, hosting, news and content writing.

I am a published writer. I also shoot photographs as a hobby. I also am an artist, drawing mostly. Love athletics, particularly wrestling or grappling sports. As for work experience, I have worked with youth in the US as well as in Korea. Ages between 10 and older. My goal is to teach while creating an stress free environment.

I have over 12 years of professional work experience, the last 3 years have been in teaching. I have excellent communication, efficiency and the ability to adapt to any environment. I am very positive, hard working & love to develop my professional skills.
