I am a hard working and caring individual, with an engaging and fun approach to teaching. I believe empathy and a caring nature are crucial skills for a teacher, as children will connect and engage more with learning if their teacher is caring. I am also keen to try new things, and explore different approaches to teaching, as I think that children learn better and engage more when each class is different and they don't become bored.

Another important strength to have is an understanding of other cultures and the ability to adapt to different cultures. I studied Modern Languages at university, where I not only studied the language of a country, but also the history and cultural differences of the country. This has broadened my horizons and allows me to have a deeper understanding of the cultural differences which are crucial for ESL teaching.

As part of my compulsory year abroad for my degree, I undertook an internship with a charity as an English Language volunteer, helping to teach English to underprivileged children in Peru. In this position, I was responsible for planning, creating, and delivering English language lessons to a group of 10-15 beginners between the ages of 3 and 9. It was here where I discovered my passion for teaching; I believe that education is the most powerful tool one can have, therefore having access to a good education is fundamental for all children to succeed. This role helped me develop my teamwork skills, whilst also allowing me to expand my communicative skills in a different environment.

I am currently working as an Au Pair, wherein I am delivering one-to-one teaching with a student of 9 years of age. One-to-one teaching requires a different approach compared to classroom teaching in a school environment, and has allowed me to develop a focused and patient way of teaching. I believe that this role has also helped develop my communication skills, as I have had to balance being a teacher with also being a friend, as it is not a school environment.

All in all, I believe myself to be a well rounded individual, with a wide skill set and experience which would make me an asset to your schools.

I have an honours degree in Languages and Intercultural Communication in which I specialised in Spanish and Chinese. I have been teaching young people and children for over 4 years now. All through university, I have been tutoring high school students Spanish in order to pass their yearly exams. Since graduating university, I have been teaching people of all ages. From children as young as five to adults in their fourties'. I do this by teaching English online. All the students that I teach have very different needs and different types of learning abilities, so I am constantly adapting to make sure they are gaining the knowledge they require. I have a very upbeat and friendly personality that I find work well with children as it means I can make learning feel fun and less of a chore.

I have worked as a tutor and baseball coach for Berkeley Unified Public Schools as well as a kids baseball coach in Tianjin, China.

Children bring me a lot of joy and I love helping kids succeed being in sports or academics. I am very outgoing, animated, charismatic and thoughtful.

I have extensive sales experience as well as experience working in television, fintech and the start-up world.

Experience

I previously taught English in Florence, Italy, to children between the ages of 5-13 years old. The school provided me with training, firstly by observing lessons and learning the syllabus, before putting all of the necessary information into practice and teaching classes myself. Coordinating classes myself enabled me to develop my own teaching style, while applying the skills I had learnt throughout my 150 hour TEFL course. My teaching experience reiterated the importance of communication and clarity when conveying new subject material to students. It is essential to make sure every student understands the information being taught and that they are digesting it. I view every lesson as a puzzle piece of English that, over time, forms a clear picture.

Personality

I consider myself a friendly person; I am always happy to converse with new people and make others feel comfortable in unfamiliar environments. My friends describe my demeanour as warm and welcoming, and this comes from genuine care for the people around me. I believe these attributes become strengths in my teaching persona as students find me approachable and can relax around me. I truly care about my students’ success, and so treat every student with importance, giving them the attention they require. Because of these character traits, I thrive best and am most satisfied in jobs where I am working to better other people’s lives, as I have experienced in my previous work teaching, as well as caring for the elderly.

Skills

My main skill is my creativity when it comes to problem-solving. As a teacher, there are many instances when you have to think on your feet and overcome an unexpected situation. For example, I was once unable to access my classroom, and so had to teach a lesson in the hallway without my lesson plan or the students’ workbooks’. Using my creative skills, I was able to devise a new lesson plan on the spot, and ensure the students still received a high-quality lesson, that was fun and interesting.
I also have good listening skills and am very patient with my students. This is essential for a teacher to be able to provide good lessons tailored to the student’s needs. I will never get annoyed with a student for not understanding, and instead of questioning the student’s ability, question my explanation and try to improve it.

I was pleased to learn of your opening for an ESL Teacher through the TEFL Org website. I am a British expat living in Dubai for 5 years with 10+ years of experience working in the Eye Health industry.

I recently completed the TEFL 188 Hour virtual level 5 & teaching business english courses, which introduced me to a wide range of teaching techniques that will allow me to educate all styles of learners. The course also included a 20hr classroom session filled with numerous activities including planning and sourcing, to getting up and delivering fun and engaging lessons to English learners of all levels of ability. I am keen to apply my skills to a teaching position within your esteemed institution.

In my previous job I was fortunate to train and coach new staff within the workplace including teaching English to non native speakers. My strong initiative, exceptional organisational skills and ability to communicate well with a diverse range of people empowered me to pursue a career geared towards education. I am comfortable presenting in front of an audience, I enjoy working independently and as part of a team. Furthermore, I enjoy reading, photography and I am an active member of a voluntary group where we put our hobbies of sewing, crochet and knitting to good use by up-cycling pre-loved materials and turning it into brand new clothing for children in orphanages all over the world. In addition to making new items, I also lead a weekly session where I teach new enthusiasts to crochet.

My teaching philosophy is based on my belief that there are no failures, just results to learn from, no matter what happens you keep going, don’t give up, every so-called failure is a result you can learn from, every faltering step is still a step. Keep stepping and trying new things, learn by doing. I am here to make good things happen, I aim to bring an open mind, and a positive attitude to the classroom each day. I believe that I owe it to my students to bring patience, diligence, and warmth in the hope that I can ultimately inspire and encourage such traits in the students as well.

I have experience teaching ESL in Vietnam from 2017-2020. I also have experience teaching ESL online to Chinese students from 2020-2021. I am a focused teacher who establishes clear expectations in the classroom, leading to a fun and productive course for my students. While working at Apax English in Vietnam I received a Top FAS Achiever award in our faculty appraisal system review. This attests that I adapted to the curriculum and was able to carry out effective lessons that met the goals and standards of our programs/ courses. I am prepared and excited to adapt to a new program and bring my established skills to a school in Korea!

Experience
I have experience teaching English as a foreign language at a private children’s school in Florence, Italy. I taught classes of ages 7-15 years-old children at this school for over three months and developed a number of strengths.
Firstly, spoken communication skills. Being able to communicate effectively is the most important strength I have when it comes to teaching; it is necessary to effectively explain difficult ideas to children who do not speak the same language as you. This is a strength that can only be developed through practical experience which I have gained.
Secondly, classroom management. Teaching younger people is not always easy as they have a tendency to get distracted easily and misbehave. But maintaining an environment that is both interesting and fun for the children, without losing control over the class, is another important skill I was able to develop during my time as an English teacher.
I also volunteer for a company Refunet, where I teach an online class each week for an adult student who has a very high standard of English. Through this, I have gained experience planning and executing lessons for more advanced students.

Personality
I am an approachable and friendly person which are very strong strengths when applied to teaching. Because of this demeanour, I am able to make classrooms a relaxed environment, where students feel comfortable to try their best without being concerned they will make a mistake, as well as talk to me about any topic they are struggling with.
I am also very driven and hard-working in any task I take on. I will always see everything I do to its end, whether it is something as trivial as reading a book or watching a movie, or as important as preparing and planning for lessons. I will bring this passion into all of my classrooms and make sure to do the best job I can every day.

Skills
My best strengths in terms of skills are firstly my organisational and time management skills. I am always very organised in every aspect of my life, but especially when it comes to my work. This is an important strength as I will always be prepared and punctual for my classes. This provides consistency and high-quality education for the students, as well as support for other members of staff.
My second skill is my reading proficiency and passion for the English language. In my free time, my main hobby is reading. If I ever get a spare 30 minutes the first thing I do is pick up a book. From this, I have developed my reading skills, as well as grammar and vocabulary, to a very high standard. But, as well as this, I am also passionate about sharing this skill and teaching other people the English language so they too can enjoy it as I do.
