My name is Tabatha Pegg. I am a 26-year-old Resident Tutor and Teacher from Leicestershire, currently based in Rutland, United Kingdom. I saw your post on the TEFL jobs listing page and believe that I have skills that fit your company's ethos and would support and help your establishment to excel.

My teaching journey began when I was 18 and teaching drama to children aged 7-18 at summer camps run by the Nicholas Branston Foundation from 2015-2018. During this time, I learned to tailor my teaching style for different age groups and numbers, and taught singing and acting to as many as 50 children at one time. In the summer of 2019, I was invited to teach music at Exsportise summer camp. Here, I taught children with low to intermediate levels of English. I enjoyed adapting my teaching style to accommodate those children, and I am proud of the work they achieved and the new language they were able to utilise by the end of the course.

From 2017 – 2020, I completed my degree in Acting and Theatre Making, achieving a first-class Honours Degree. During the course I acquired a plethora of skills that I would later use to inform my teaching. Leading group projects at university helped shape the way I lead groups and provided valuable experience in taking charge of fellow adults. I also gained experience in creating my own resources for assessments. To accompany the skills nurtured during my degree, I am also a strong vocalist and competent guitarist, with a good knowledge of music theory. I have found that incorporating music into teaching is a fantastic way to engage students, and often helps them better retain the information they are being taught.

Upon graduating in 2020, I utilised my time during the Covid 19 lockdown to complete a 120-hour TEFL qualification. Teaching abroad, experiencing new cultures and customs and having the privilege to share my skills with new people interests me greatly, and TEFL is the perfect gateway to make this a reality. After completing this, I taught online for iTutorABC from November 2020 to July 2021. I taught students, sometimes as young as three years old, along with adult classes. I had experience of one-to-one and group teaching – groups of up to 12 people at a time. This solidified my joy for teaching, and I enjoyed the challenges that came with navigating online platforms and catering for so many different ages and abilities. I always left personal, detailed feedback to help my students excel and ensured that they felt confident as they approached exams.

From August 2021 until now, I have been working as a Drama Teacher and Resident Tutor at Oakham Boarding School. I live and work in the school, making sure that the children's academic and pastoral needs are taken care of, helping with homework, monitoring their academic progress closely and liaising with parents and fellow teachers when necessary. Alongside my tutoring and pastoral work, I teach the LAMDA and UK Drama curriculum. Working in one of the UK's top 10 boarding schools has helped me further develop my approach to teaching, paying close attention to how each child responds best, what helps them learn and remember the information they're being taught. Most importantly, I observe what they enjoy. Children and adults alike learn most when they are having fun, so I always strive to keep my students engaged and happy during class time with energetic, fun content. Whilst I enjoy my job, I am keen to leave the UK and experience what life abroad has to offer, as I believe that there is a lot the world can teach me. If I am to be the best teacher I can be, I must also strive to learn and push myself.
A further note about my character: I am an energetic, friendly, empathetic, punctual and extremely hard-working person. I go above and beyond in everything I do, always. I was appointed Student Fellow during my second year of university to act as a representative for my course due to my continued commitment and complete reliability. I am currently working as an English Communication Development teacher in Uttaradit, Thailand. I work with students aged 12-14. I also tutor students privately, adapting each lesson to the individual based upon age, level and proficiency.

In addition, I have graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English which has provided me with an invaluable insight into the language. I have developed excellent written and oral communication skills through my coursework, presentations and work experience in teaching and mentoring. The work experience I completed as part of the Literacy Support Project has enabled me to gain classroom teaching experience to children of all age ranges, allowing me to tailor my teaching style to different audiences and fluency levels.

My role as Student Ambassador for the Schools Liaison team required me to deliver activities to young visitors, occasionally planning activities myself. I was able to motivate and encourage pupils to complete their tasks in an engaging and fun way.

Furthermore, I have also worked in a Montessori school in China, Shenzhen, as a Kindergarten and Elementary English Teacher where I was responsible for a class of 30 students ranging from different ages. I created the curriculum for them, was able to teach English at all levels from reading comprehension, to syntax, vocabulary, verbs, nouns, and different tenses.

This position offers me the opportunity to teach the language that I relish in order to widen the pupils’ future career prospects. I would welcome the chance to provide them with high quality lessons and utilise the skills and experience I have to make a valuable contribution to their exposure to English.

My experience includes working as a substitute teacher and Para educator since 2018 in Naugatuck Connecticut public Schools. I have worked in classrooms from grades K-5 and have completed 1 semester of student teaching in grade 1 at Davis Elementary School in New Rochelle, New York. I have experienced many different classroom environments and feel that I am confident in classroom management and organization. Along with my experience in the USA I also have experience teaching in Thailand. With 1 semester each of primary and secondary education teaching experience I feel extremely confident in my ability to teach ESL students. My outgoing and happy persona has helped me keep classes engaged and entertained regardless of how difficult the lesson may be for some students.

I have a four year degree, where I have specialized in Foundation Phase teaching and equipped with the knowledge; skills, and practice in teaching elementary and kindergarten learners. I am also equipped to teach computers and physical education.

During my four year degree, I had practical training in different schools and different grades. I am a patient, determined, creative, and hard-working individual, and I am always willing to learn and cooperate with my fellow colleagues.

I also have an honours degree in Inclusive Education, as I have the knowledge on how to accommodate each learner within the classroom environment. I also have a level 5 TEFL qualification, and growing up in South Africa I am able to accommodate learners when teaching English as a subject.

I believe that I would be an ideal candidate for this opportunity as I have an undergraduate degree in Linguistics, a master’s in Law, and have tutoring experience. In addition, I already speak two languages fluently (English and Russian) and am at an intermediate level for French, which demonstrates my affinity for language learning meaning that I would not struggle to assimilate myself into South Korea (language being a fundamental step to doing so). During my Linguistics course, I studied the grammar structures of all languages, including English. In addition, I undertook a module on language development in children and have studied L2 language acquisition and how this compares to L1 acquisition. During my time tutoring, I aided a mature student in her English Language and English Literature A-Level studies. This indicates that I have already developed necessary skills required to teach others. To further prove this, during my time tutoring this student, her grade increased from a D to an A.

I have yet to teach children in a classroom but I do have experience with watching over and educating children due to my internship with Walt Disney and having previously worked in a toy store in Manhattan! I fell in love with Seoul while studying at Yonsei University and my experience as a Disney intern mad e me love teaching children something new and making wonderful memories with them. I adapt to new places rather quickly and I tend to learn pretty fast which has helped me assist other people with what may be new or difficult tasks and situations.

I have over 4 years of experience, two years in Korea, two years in SEA, and online experience.I'm a dynamic active teacher who loves to play educational activities and add variety to my lesson to make them as engaging as possible.I am currently available for interviews.
