As stated above, I have a great deal of tutoring experience, having worked with students of a variety of ages on a fairly diverse array of subjects. I think I am particularly well qualified to teach AP and SAT subjects, as I graduated high school as a National AP Scholar, National Merit Scholar, and Valedictorian of my 790-person class. In addition, however, I believe that my non-teaching experience has given me a wealth of transferable skills that make me an even better fit for this job.

As Campus Coordinator for Adam Block Design, a custom apparel company geared towards college students in Greek life, I have not only learned how to hold a customer’s interest and make sales; I have learned how to speak to a client in order to win and maintain their trust, how to build relationships, and how to communicate effectively both in person and over email. I have learned how to explain complicated processes, how to balance tenacity and flexibility, and how to deal with an angry customer. I often navigate several different orders at a time, and a fast response time is crucial in such a competitive business, so I have learned how to succeed within a demanding structure. I also work as a Digitization Assistant in UChicago’s very notable Special Collections Research Center, where I have refined a strict attention to detail and organization. I have become very talented at multitasking, balancing both of these jobs on top of the rigor of a UChicago education and participation in various campus activities. I am a very active member of Pi Beta Phi, for instance having been Show Planning Chair for Arrowfest, our annual philanthropy event by which we raise around $20,000 a year for literacy nonprofits, two years in a row. I am also a member of the University Disciplinary Committee, which has been a very important resource for experience in conflict management, informational analysis, and communication.

I consider myself to be a responsible, dedicated, and efficient person. I am also fluent in Korean, though I always welcome the opportunity to improve, and by way of my summer internship at NCSOFT, am familiar with Korean working culture. I am generally good with technology, have coding experience (acquired by taking four rigorous classes in the Computer Science department at UChicago), and above all, am a fast and eager learner.

In terms of experience, I have been a hall senior for my university, which involved living with the students in halls and being a first point of contact for any questions or problems they may have. I helped to organise introduction week events for the university students and made sure everyone felt comfortable and got to know each other in the initial weeks. I have also had lots of experience with babysitting; from the ages of 8-14. I entertain the kids and play games with them, and often cook food and help them with their homework. I sometimes have to stay over if the parents are away for a night and help them go to school the next day. I have also been involved with the youth group at my local church on sundays. This involved teaching the children about morals and life lessons through games and songs, which was really fun and rewarding. At high school, I was the House Captain. I was elected for this and had to make sure that my house was integrating across all years. I helped with activities such as sports days and variety shows, which were across all the years, and helped the students fell comfortable and part of a wider family in the school.

I have a very bubbly and outgoing personality, and love to interact with new people. I believe this would make me an ideal candidate for teaching english to a class of new students. In terms of working style, I am a hard worker, who loves to be challenged and put out of my comfort zone, therefore I believe throwing myself into life in Korea as a teacher would be a perfect fit for me. In my Physics degree, I learnt how to think logically and to work calmly under pressure, even when tight deadlines were set. Furthermore, I am able to express myself thoughtfully and in a structured manner, which I believe will make me a valuable English teacher. I am currently completing a 120-Hour TEFL course online, which I have found extremely worthwhile and has increased my knowledge of how I would style my classes when teaching English to young students, to get the most out of each lesson.

I want to teach english in Korea because I want to do something fulfilling and worthwhile. I want to give my knowledge and help more children to learn english, which is ever-increasingly important in today's globalised society. I have had experience working with children in school, at church and outside of education with my babysitting experience, and I thoroughly enjoy interacting with them. There have often been times when they have come to me for advice and I feel honoured to have the responsibility to be a role model for them. This is something I would love to be able to continue by teaching English abroad in Korea.

My name is Yanira Reyes, an American, I’m 26 years old and currently teaching Spanish at a high school. I have been working at Shawnee Mission School District since 2015. I have also taught English abroad in South Korea for a year. After having taught in Korea I knew I wanted to keep teaching and decided to obtain my masters. I have a Master’s in Education and a certification in TEFL from the United States.

My experiences have mold me to become the teacher I am now. My students are the ones who keep molding me to become the best version of myself. Just like my students push me to be better each day, I also empower my students to be themselves and to follow their passion. I constantly try to get involved with the community and see how my lesson plans can extend into the events in the community. For I believe my students will succeed if I make my assignment more meaningful, relevant, and fun.

Some of the assignment I have created have gotten my students rewards and recognitions:

• Creating your ideal business idea (Bizfest in Kansas City – 2nd place)
• Creating a social justice video for a film festival (Central Missouri University)
• Writing a poem about a theme “It starts with me” (Kansas State PTO – 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and this year possibly state)
• Creating a painting using the same style of a Hispanic artist or being influence by the Hispanic community. (Got to display their art work at first Friday downtown KC)
• Write an essay in Spanish for a scholarship… have only had one winner for this.

There are more events I would like my students to get involved, but at the moment these are events I have been successfully to have my students partake. I also take my top students, who have shown great leadership attributes, to leadership conferences. I believe if I ask my students to be great leaders I have the responsibility to give them tools to do so.

These two majors are heavily writing oriented, so I have a significant amount of experience in critical writing and reading. I am a dedicated, organised and friendly individual with good interpersonal skills, as well as being reliable and dependable, I like to plan ahead in order to manage my time well. I have a BSc degree in Clinical Psychology, graduating with First-class honours, achieving an award for the highest academic achievement in the Psychology class of 2010. Throughout my time at University, I was introduced to a variety of modules, where I particularly enjoyed Child Development, Childhood Psychopathology, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Family Therapy, Therapeutic strategies in Child Psychology and School Psychology. My degree has enabled me to acquire knowledge about child development, understanding the way they learn and explore the world around them since they are born, where what happens during their infancy and their relationship with their family, affects the way they are in the future. I also learned how to understand and identify different childhood disorders and to use different strategies to improve the child’s life.

I worked for two years as an Early years teaching assistant at a British school in the Dominican Republic with children from different nationalities and cultures, where most of them were learning English as a second language. This experience provided me with skills to work with EAL students. I learned how to work in small group instruction and working on a one on one basis with particular students to assess each child’s strengths and areas where they might need help. I managed the discipline of the classroom, assisted the teacher in planning and implementing creative and learning activities, and created a well-organised, safe and attractive classroom environment. During my time at the school, I achieved an award for Best Effort and another for Teaching Assistant of the year.

I also worked as a Teaching assistant at a Bilingual Summer Camp, where I assisted the teacher with the planning of educational and recreational activities and teaching the English language. In my classroom, I had a boy with "Asperger Syndrome," where I helped him improve his social skills and behaviour, gaining experience in inclusive education.  I learned how to manage the class effectively, using songs, hand gestures and different tones of voice to keep children focused and engaged. At the end of the Summer Camp, the teacher and I achieved an award for Best Group Management.

In the UK, I worked at a Primary School in the Early Years setting in Nursery and Reception, being the key worker of a group of children. I gained knowledge of the Early years outcomes and the characteristics of effective learning, allowing me to be accountable for the pupils’ attainment and progress by assessing the children through observations and writing their next steps in learning. I gained experience with inclusive education by also having SEN children in the classroom and working directly with speech therapists to improve their communication skills, guiding me to implement small group sessions with children who have speech difficulties. I taught mathematics in small groups, using different strategies according to the children’s needs. Furthermore, I went to the ‘Ruth Miskin Phonics Training’ course, giving me the knowledge to be able to teach phonics at this school; and the ‘Write Dance’ training, where I was able to learn how to help improve children's handwriting using dance movements, being in charge of implementing it in my class. I also was present at an ‘Excellence in Early Years’ conference, where I learned about the role of the adult in the classroom and about the Continuous Provision in the Early Years Practice.

I enrolled in the PGCE Primary course with an Early Years specialism, since I have a great passion towards the Early Years Foundation Stage. During this course, I learned about the National Curriculum and have looked at teaching the core and foundation subjects, developing my confidence in planning and carrying out assessments. Also, I have been equipped with the essential knowledge every teacher needs to know, such as safeguarding young people and how to work successfully with parents.  My course focus is Early Years, provided me with a secure knowledge of the EYFS Curriculum and an understanding of how children learn.

During my first two placements, I had the opportunity of working in a Nursery class. This allowed me to gain experience in planning and to further develop each of the Teaching Standards. I established a stimulated environment in the classroom through a variety of activities that are based on the children’s interests. This was done by planning, engaging, well-resourced activities, appropriate to the Nursery children and their specific needs, making sure that each activity not only promoted intellectual curiosity and a love of learning, but also are interactive and practical, using a range of strategies to support all pupils, such as visual prompts, questioning and modeling. My planning is always written based on the children’s previous learning and by communicating with all the members of staff and valuing their opinion, since I believe that working as a team allows a continuance of educational standard in the event of sickness or other unavailability.  Also, after each lesson or planned activity, I reflected upon its effectiveness and how the children responded in order to improve further planning.

Additionally, I have contributed to the wider life of the school by attending staff meetings, supporting
trips in Reception and being involved in the Christmas Nativity. This allowed me to have a clear understanding of the Safeguarding policies in the school and become aware of the risk assessment procedures. I maintain good relationships with all pupils, demonstrating positive attitudes towards their learning by using my enthusiasm to engage all of them, motivating them through singing, using different tones of voice, questioning and modeling my expectations. On my second placement, I’m currently assessing the children and planning for small intervention groups, focusing on language, mathematics and phonics. On my third placement, I worked at a mixed Year 1/Year 2 class. I developed in my knowledge of the Primary Curriculum, being able to plan and teach lessons, such as Literacy, Science and Maths, and gain experience with those age groups.

I am currently an NQT in a Reception class, where I am developing more into how to lead a classroom of my own, using all the skills I learned during my experience in University as well as a Teaching assistant in the Early Years.

I continuously reflect upon my practice and act upon advice and feedback from my colleagues and tutors, understanding that learning never stops and that I need to continue developing myself in order to enhance new techniques that often appear.  Overall, I believe that my experience and knowledge enables me to be a successful teacher in the future, one who can inspire children to learn, to feel confident to express and be themselves, to explore the world around them and to develop different skills that they will use in their future lives.

I currently work within the pharmacy industry and I am looking to pursue a career that appeals directly to my interests. I have always had an avid interest in Korean and Japanese culture and history from a young age and this has only developed into admiration for these countries into my adulthood. Although a slight cliche I did develop my interest in Korea from Japanese from manga and anime, which lead me to the korean manga and anime equivalent as well as K-Pop. This has however given me basic knowledge of Japanese and Korean language and customs.

Although I do not have teaching experience within a school, I am the store trainer in my current job and I am directly in charge of ensuring that colleagues are taught and understand any new systems that are introduced. As well as this I am currently enrolled on the 120 hour premier TEFL course.

I am interested in applying for a teaching position for ESL. I believe I am better suited to teach at levels because I have an outgoing, creative and vibrant personality. As a 2012 graduate of Kent University, Canterbury, UK, I have experience in skills such as; creativity, leadership and communication. My current qualifications mean that I am qualified enough to successfully undertake the task of teaching English. I am currently about to finish my Master’s in Applied linguistic and TESOL.
I taught at the university level, at the university of Kent, this position enabled me to develop my skills in being creative, classroom management, and communication.

I have experience in sells, as I was a customer service for BT and other retailers. I would love to bring these areas together in your company.
