Thank you for considering my application. I am confident that we can positively impact the future of your students by working together.

As the son of a Mexican immigrant, I have spent my entire life helping my father learn to speak, read, and write in English. Our informal training helped me grow into a patient listener and a concise communicator, which has helped me make many friends who are non-native English speakers. I plan on completing my 120-hour TEFL Certification by August 26, 2022, and I am excited to grow in my ability to teach English.

I have plenty of volunteer experience as a teacher. I have spent two summers teaching English in Anhui Province and Taiwan. I provided one-on-one tutoring in math and reading for three years at a local elementary school, and I taught financial literacy to a class of 20 students at another elementary school. I have spent the past year teaching Bible lessons to a class of 30 kindergarteners at my church. I have also coached youth soccer teams for three seasons. As someone who loves to learn, I naturally enjoy sharing the knowledge and skills I have with others.

As a Malone Scholar at Casady School, a college preparatory school in Oklahoma, I have firsthand experience with the American college admissions process. Due to my family’s financial position, I focused my college search on finding universities that provided substantial financial aid packages. I applied to 13 universities, and each one accepted me. I received over $1.1 million USD in merit-based scholarship offers, and three universities offered to cover my full cost of tuition. I decided to attend Oklahoma City University, where I was the first fellow to join the Meinders Business Leadership Fellows Program. I enjoyed advocating for myself in this process, and I would be glad to advocate for your students as they apply to American universities.

As a child, I noticed that my father seemed relaxed and expressive when he could speak with people in Spanish. As a result, I enjoy studying foreign languages to communicate with others in their native tongues. For most of my life, I focused on learning Spanish. I studied Mandarin in my final year of high school and Japanese during the first few months of the COVID-19 Pandemic. After beginning a career in commercial banking, I neglected my language studies, but I have spent the past four months studying Mandarin, Japanese, and Arabic. I am excited to move to Qingdao and use Mandarin in my everyday life. I would also enjoy learning Korean, so I am thrilled by the opportunity to speak it with your students. Your school would be a great fit for me and my lifelong pursuit of language and cross-cultural learning.

During my work experience in a busy MP’s Office (June-September 2015), I had to learn how to make effective decisions that would result in taking the MP's needs and priorities into account. For example, a constituent struggling with an urgent benefits application would be prioritised over an email response from the MP in regards to the council cutting grass more frequently. The role as a caseworker was ever-changing and it allowed for me to be able to recognise when to prioritise certain tasks for the MP.I also had to encourage other staff members to apply their own judgement and recognise when certain cases should take priority. I had to constantly think of what issues would be in the best interest of the MP.
Another example, is that I would have to identify a range of relevant and credible information sources when responding to constituents emails or when carrying out research as requested by the MP.
Additionally, in my role as a legal analyst I would have to collect new data from internal and external sources in regards to new legislation when working with Factor Law (January- June 2020). On the basis of my analysis decide whether to approve documentation for onward transmission to the client (GoldmanSachs or to escalate my concerns to legal partners Allen and Overy. In all my postgraduation work I have shown an ability to make effective decisions often in a pressurised environment.

Effective communication was at the heart of my client support role (Covid Vaccine rollout) at the NHS (April- November 2021). In this role I communicated directly with people ensuring that they met the criteria for Vaccine appointment allocation. These individual communications around aspects of a person’s health required sensitivity, diplomacy and absolute clarity. I also deployed my leadership skills in interacting with NHS colleagues to ensure consistency of approach and quality service to clients. I would also lead on reporting upwards were I observed inconsistencies and anomalies.
I also communicated effectively orally and in writing in my role as Legal Analyst at Factor Law (Jan-June 2020) dealing with legal contracts. I would often speak to clients from all over the world from different cultural and linguistic cultural backgrounds were communication was challenging but were absolute clarity was essential. This role also required leadership skills in that I regularly briefed the team and senior managers around areas were the approach to the work or the service to the client could be improved.
Most of my work at Factor was done through digital channels so it was critical to make sure my communication was clear and accurate for the foreign clients.

I demonstrated the managing a quality service competency when I worked as a Legal Analyst Factor Law (January-June 2020.) In this role, there was no scope for ambiguity and it was my responsibility to ensure accuracy and consistency in the documentation I reviewed on behalf of the client.
For example, if I realised that a contract had defective language or identified unattended omissions it was my role to alert the client and have the documentation amended. This was a vital and high quality service which ultimately protected the client from potential risks.
I would also participate actively in morning meetings with other members of my team and we would discuss amended legislation, objectives and best practice. We would also establish what our targets were and how we would reach them. We would discuss errors that we had come across and how we would tackle them in the future if they arise. This teamwork ensured a high quality service and ongoing improvement in delivering for the client.
As a Legal Analyst (January-June 2020) I worked on legal projects for large Global clients, in the areas Financial Regulations, Corporate Restructuring and Commercial regulation. Throughout this role I have been dealing with various contract types from complex financial services documents to high value commercial contracts to conduct high volume contract review, data extraction and analysis as well as some drafting, negotiation and counter party out reach. As a result, I have developed my ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and I have improved my attention to detail to provide an excellent run rate with a focus on quality.

When working in a busy constituency office in June- September 2015 I often had to complete tasks under strict time restriction for the MP. I also had to send out letters and emails articulated at a high-level and at a fast-pace on behalf of the MP.

I ensured that I reached out to the clients and made them aware of the deadlines and chased them up if they weren’t responding at pace.
I also had to take responsibility of my own personal workload and ensure I got through my assigned contracts with added amendments done on time.

As a Legal Analyst (January-June 2020) I worked on legal projects for large Global clients, in the areas of Financial Regulations, Corporate Restructuring and Commercial regulation. Throughout this role I dealt with a range of contract documentation including complex financial services data and high value commercial transactions. I undertook high volume contract review, data extraction and analysis were there was considerable pressure to complete against fixed deadlines (legal cut off dates including Brexit). As a result, I have developed my ability to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously and at pace while ensuring no diminution in accuracy or service quality.

People often consider me as a fun, sociable character. I'm well spoken with a hobby and curiosity for the English language – meaning that I often look up a word's etymology.

As far as my considerations as a teacher, I have volunteered to help friends with English language projects (where English is not their first language) and I was delighted when they shared their appreciation. I'm calm and collected and I try earnestly to help and communicate with people. There's a sense of joy when someone connects and understands with what I'm discussing (or teaching) – when I talk to people, I often enjoy learning and sharing what I learn with friends. It's important to share that I don't believe teaching is as romanticized as one might imagine and I'm aware that teaching English is often a matter of learning key topics, repetition and long term support and development.

As an aside, I am comfortable talking publicly and I have a music discussion podcast that I host with a friend. I have a history in film journalism and have seen online publication with mid-sized companies. During my TEFL training, I was excited to share my learnings and thoughts with friends, involving them in the process.

I have a Dual Masters Degree in Education to teach grades 1-6, and to teach special education grades 1-6. I was a substitute teacher from September 2021 until June 2022, where I have had to fill in for kindergarten teachers, all the way through sixth grade teachers.

I always have a cheery, and excited attitude when I am in the classroom. I want students to enjoy their time learning, and understand that the classroom is a positive place for their creativity to shine.

I do possess skills in teaching the phonetics of the English language using different teaching methods. I have extensive experience teaching young students phonetics from my time substituting for a kindergarten teacher for several weeks.

I also have different types of classroom management methods that I use when in the classroom, all while promoting a positive classroom environment and atmosphere.

I additionally have skills in regards to addressing the needs of struggling students, and have knowledge of different teaching methods that can be used to address my students' needs.
