I have worked with a wide range of children in the past in both direct leadership and auxiliary roles. I was the president of my Venture Crew through the Boy Scouts of America where I would lead meetings and serve as an example for many years to younger scouts in high school. I have also volunteered at various Scouting events where I helped manage various small group activities for school-age children. I have also worked as a camp councilor for Camp Invention, both leading children and assisting teachers in getting children engaged in STEM-related activities. In terms of direct language teaching experience, I was the vice president of the Korean Language and Culture Club in university where I would create short and basic grammar lessons and present them to teach the club. I also would work with my peers in both high school and college to help unofficially tutor them in wide range of classes. Overall, I have a wide background in terms of both leading a range of ages in group settings and teaching different subjects.
I am a very approachable person, so people tend to feel comfortable asking me for help. I also have a very calm personality, so I tend to be able to stay level-headed and adaptable in most situations. I am a creative person, so I can think of many different ways to create lessons to keep children engaged in learning, and I am very curious myself, so I work to inspire curiosity and the drive to learn in others.
My skills include use of technology, so I can easily integrate it into lesson, and language acquisition skills. I have studied to varying degrees Spanish, French, and Japanese, and I have done very well in all my language classes. Having a very strong foundation for language learning oneself is important to be able to teach others language, even if its one’s native language. I work to have clear communication with anyone I meet. I take the initiative in most things that I decide to do, and I have developed critical thinking skills through-out my college career as a STEM major.
