I have just recently graduated with a First Class Bachelor (Honours) of Arts in History at the University of Oxford and I am currently studying for a Master of Letters in Middle Eastern History at the University of St Andrews. This has gifted me the ability to deal with high-intensity workloads, develop great writing skills, and meet deadlines. I have a passion for education, having educated younger students in literacy and numeracy lessons while at middle school and currently taking up private tutoring positions at U2 Tuition and Superprof. These passions can be expanded through this teaching position, granting me the chance to inspire language learners, bridge cultural gaps, and exchange ideas between myself and students.
Adaptability has been a constant theme throughout my professional and educational journey. As a lifeguard for four years, I honed my ability to remain composed and focused in high-pressure situations, demonstrating adaptability in ensuring the safety and well-being of others. Moreover, my role as Men's captain of Lincoln College Boat Club, alongside the intense final year of my History degree, required effective leadership, time management, organisation, and flexibility in organising a twenty-six hour timetable of rowing outings, coordinating with coaches, other committee members, and other boat clubs, attending regular meetings, fundraising for boat club finances, hiring and interviewing coaches, and writing contracts. This all involved managing a diverse team, fostering collaboration, and navigating challenges to achieve common goals.
I have a genuine passion for language education, shown through my 188-hour TEFL course and a diverse background that includes tutoring and volunteering experiences, all of which equips me for educating, safeguarding, and relationship building with young learners and children. Adaptability is evidenced through working with students of varying abilities, from young students struggling at middle school, to university applicants, to university students, tailoring my approach to meet individual learning needs. Moreover, my voluntary work as a team leader for Lincoln College Vacation Project, where I supervised and cared for children in social care on residential trips, further demonstrates this flexibility, looking after children with disadvantaged backgrounds and some with significant behavioural issues. These experiences not only enriched my ability to communicate effectively, but also heightened my sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
In concurrence with my adaptability, I possess relevant teaching and mentoring experiences. In the summer of 2022, I undertook an 188-hour TEFL qualification, including a seventy-nine-hour methodology course, a level five grammar course, and a principles of teaching course, providing me with relative experience of teaching English in a non-native English speaking country. This has exposed me to the nuances of the English language and made me confident in my ability to assist students in their language acquisition journey. I have provided tutoring at middle school and high school levels, aiding less able students in developing literacy and numeracy skills. Currently, I tutor a student undertaking a BA in History, combing my passion for the subject with personalised and effective teaching approaches. Furthermore, my involvement in aiding university applications through mock interviews, personal statement analysis, and written work sample evaluations demonstrates my commitment to fostering academic and personal growth in young individuals.
