My name is Kris Dunphy. I have a few years’ experience working in International schools in Seoul such as Dulwich College Seoul and Seoul International school where I taught grade 3 for 2 years.

I have worked very hard over the years to create interesting and relevant lessons for children with dramatically disparate levels of English speaking and writing abilities. Teaching a standards-based curriculum to ESL students has necessitated an incredible amount of differentiation in the classroom. It has meant identifying specific, learning needs and backwards planning from these standards to create targeted learning to help advance students not performing at grade level. It has also meant making connections with parents, soliciting their help at home with reading/writing journals and most importantly; managing expectations in a healthy and positive way.

In Korea, teaching students with disparate levels of English reading and writing abilities has forced me to be creative in the manner in which I approach instruction in the classroom. Knowing that there will normally be students not performing at grade level, I have used the levels of mastery indicated in the student skills, as they are found in the common core learning standards, to help indicate what grade level my students are performing at. Once I know just how far apart my students are in their learning, I can start to reduce their zones of proximal development by filling in the holes in student learning with informed, differentiated instruction. I have also had a great deal of success, using the standards to create learning objectives with my students to create rubrics together, that help to self-regulate student learning and to inform the students exactly what is expected of them in their work.

I have had a great deal of fun volunteering with students, both after school and on the weekends; with such activities as soccer, basketball, choir, as well as being responsible for organizing a chess team at Dulwich College Seoul that participated in the KAAIC chess tournaments with other international schools in South Korea.

My experience strengths would be experiences as a teacher in the academny and helping professors in the university for master thesis for students. Than continued on actual business sectors where both customers and workers can adapt to the right environment.

My personality is open-mined where I am ready to learn CHINESE culture and the students there. My experience as a foreign person has been in my DNA since elementary and my 20s in KOREA. Therefore those experiences help my personal more strong in terms of understanding others especially students in general.

In terms of skiils my strongest point would be both education and social life. As a result I can help indiviual students to grow strength both metally and grade level of enlgish. Also help students be more mature not only in school but socially so they would be more focused upon eduation.

Working as a math teacher has been something I’ve seen myself doing since I’ve been completing my high school education. The subject has always interested me and teaching the field has always been enjoyable for me.

For my qualifications, I have taken years worth of math classes that have taught me a lot of the field while also giving me many new ways of solving and approaching problems. I’ve taken enough calculus courses to be comfortable with teaching AP students. My upper level math courses have helped me find innovative ways to approach problems (especially linear algebra). For computer science, I have taken enough courses to teach students how to code in Python, JavaScript, and C programming.

My current job is at a learning center where I teach SAT math primarily. This job is unique in how it has me teach students test taking strategies and focus on solving problems of different kinds based on what they’ve learned in school (mostly algebra and geometry).

What I value in this job is not only will I be able to teach the subject I have always enjoyed, but also be able to immerse myself in a culture, way of life, and learn more about the world.

Teaching Math for talented students for several years

I tried to live a life without any bias on either side by taking the virtue of moderation as a life creed. Moderation is not to condemn and deny that it is different from one's own will, but to accept it positively and to lay the foundations for creating new things. And I think this is a virtue that modern people who are prone to narrow-minded thinking in a diverse and rapidly changing modern society should have.

The advantage of my personality is that I always think positively along with critical thoughts. Critical thinking gave me the power to control myself, and even though it was hard and difficult, positive beliefs and thoughts gave me a better life. Even though I can not say that critical thinking is unconditionally good, it led me to my life with positive thoughts.

I think that all human beings move toward a complete personality through the pursuit of learning and growth. It is the universality of human beings to pursue learning and growth, and it is the educational act of teachers to categorize and systematize the universality. I think it is up to the teacher to encourage greater learning and growth. My education has become a basic guideline for teaching activities to guide students. I think teachers should have professionalism in educational planning. In preparation for the rapid increase in knowledge and information, I think that the professionalism of teachers who utilize and communicate the intellectual infrastructure of society in school education is more urgent than ever. It is necessary to emphasize the diversity of individual students and effectively mediate the development of various textbooks and the diversification of evaluation methods through the reconstruction of creative teaching-learning methods and curriculum. In addition, I think that it is necessary to provide equal educational opportunities that recognize the diversity of individual students and to make efforts to improve the excellence based on this, so that the learner's academic ability can be improved. To this end, it is necessary to induce self-directed learning that enhances learners' autonomy and creativity, to expand opportunities to express free thinking, and to induce learning that enhances problem solving ability based on thorough principle learning to increase problem situation awareness and problem analysis ability.
