Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and you better is best. Over my years of teaching, I’ve learned that if my students are to reach their greatest potential, then I too must be presently willing and striving to be my best. So I’ve applied myself to learning about learning anyway that I can: reading books, observing effective teachers, continually reflecting on best practices and even completing my Master’s Degree in Mathematics education.

One of my greatest fears is to limit a student’s ability to be excellent. So I have become adept at making as many resources available to students as possible to optimize their learning experience via the internet. Because of this approach, I’ve been asked by the district every year to give digital training to staff members at every campus I’ve taught and students have shown great appreciation and growth because of it.

I don’t simply want a job, I am asking for the opportunity to make a substantial difference for the greater good of this company by offering excellent service to students who benefit from these resources.

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am a university graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and minors in French and Writing, TESOL certification, TOEFL score of 115, and my inherent passion for literature and language learning that would make me an excellent addition to your team. I am a highly-skilled, compassionate, and enthusiastic teaching professional with insight into developing lesson plans and curriculum for elementary to university students. My long-term goal is to eventually go back to school to get my Master's Degree in Library and Information Sciences. With already a year of teaching experience in Korea, I am confident in my ability to become a valuable asset to your academy.

Having studied both English literature and French, I have a deeper understanding of language learning. I am conversationally fluent in French and studying Korean and German. I tutored literary theory and French and acquired the necessary skills to teach students of varying ages and managing classroom atmospheres. I like to research and incorporate various resources to accommodate students via visual and audio learning methods. Depending on the student or students, I integrate either different levels of popular, well-known literature or textbook learning with interactive, student-centered activities that maximize “student talk time,” engaging students in activities using speaking, grammar, writing, listening, and reading to help improve their accuracy and fluency across key skill areas and to ensure comprehension and retention of the concepts and vocabulary. My goal is to foster and maintain a communicative and supportive classroom for students to feel secure and appropriately challenged.

While studying as a full-time student, I also bartended simultaneously, giving me great time management skills. I learned to be flexible to satisfy both the needs of the customer and management and ensure a good atmosphere while managing a clean and safe work environment. I worked in many different, high-demand environments, that allowed me to hone my ability to recall recipes and follow health and safety protocols.

I am outgoing, flexible, and willing to go above and beyond to learn quickly and perform efficiently, including extra prep to ensure I would meet and exceed the academy standards. With my educational and professional background, I hope I have been set apart from other applicants. My KakaoTalk is Matthewzaq, my email is madisonmdarcey@gmail.com, and my phone number is (010) 3093-2552. Please contact me at your convenience so we can set up an interview, I’d love to answer any questions you may have regarding my abilities and to discuss how my diverse skills and experience will enable me to make a valuable contribution to your academy. Thank you for your time.

Yours,

Paul: United States: Rutger's University. New Brunswick, NJ: Nov 08, 2020

I am not one to blow my own horn, but if I must define my strengths, I would guess that they may include strength of mind, determination, and persistence. These strengths are the culmination of experience in business at major companies in publishing, such as McMillan and Simon and Schuster, in marketing, in sales at HP, and in other customer-centric roles at other major companies. My experience as a small business owner showed me how it feels from “the other side”- the place where management sees the world and left me with a well rounded view of the workplace.

Some of the soft skills I acquired have been perishable, but I strive to stay fresh through constant interaction with working professionals daily. These skills include reframing those awkward moments, formal business etiquette, and presentation skills. Relevant task skills include holding my TEFL, freelance teaching experience of over one and a half years and tutoring specific individuals for over one year.

Korean language specific skills include the Korean voiced and unvoiced “th” sound that everybody seems to have a problem with, and difficulty with nasalization of certain vowels before nasal consonants. This give the L1 Korean speaker an overly vocal sound when speaking English and can be described as sounding “tough”. I work to help my students through that and improve their articulation.

Christian: United Kingdom: The University of Manchester: Dec 01, 2020

Christian: United Kingdom: The University of Manchester: Dec 01, 2020

I am writing to apply for Science/Math teaching opportunities in Seoul, South Korea. I am a native English-speaking graduate and a UK citizen. I have recently completed my Master's degree in Physics from the University of Manchester, home to one of the top Physics departments in Europe.

I recently completed a 168-hour TEFL qualification where I learnt to develop effective lesson plans, create an interesting variety of engaging activities, techniques for evaluating students and how to work effectively with my co-teachers to create the optimal learning environment.

Having worked as an online tutor for 5 months earlier this year I already have experience teaching students on a one-to-one basis. I conducted weekly Skype sessions with students to help them prepare for their GCSE and A-level exams in Maths and Physics. Furthermore, my position as a Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) leader during my second year of university allowed me to develop various group teaching methods. I will combine these previous experiences with the skills and techniques I acquired during the TEFL certification to implement effective teaching strategies and perform as an excellent Science/Math teacher.

I am eager to use my various experiences in order to encourage students to have a greater appreciation and a strong understanding of scientific concepts, and hopefully to inspire them to go further and carry on their studies at university. I currently have all my required visa documents prepared and ready. I would very much like the opportunity to discuss my application with you further at interview. Thank you for taking the time to read my CV and I look forward to hearing from you.

I also enjoy teaching the practical aspects of biology through demonstrations of laboratory techniques such as cell culturing or PCR, emphasis on the importance of data analysis skills in science, as well as guiding students through the scientific method. My experience teaching adolescents and young adults has allowed me the skills needed to facilitate constructive learning environments. I believe my teaching experience as well as my broad knowledge in concepts and laboratory techniques in biology has equipped me with the skills needed to make an impact on young minds and to foster an appreciation for science.

Jesse: United States: University of Pennsylvania: Sep 10, 2020

Jesse: United States: University of Pennsylvania: Sep 10, 2020

In my experience teaching in South Korea over the years, it seems that most students are not encouraged to speak their opinion due to the nature of the collectivist culture. However, with globalization, this is slowly changing through academia with foreigner interactions. At my current school among the different types of English classes: reading, writing, conversation, etc., debate classes are at the core of our conversation classes. In the debate classes, we instruct our students to not only communicate strategically, but we also train them to express meaning orally in interpersonal, transactional, formal and informal ways in form of recount, narrative, procedural, descriptive, analytical exposition, spoof, didactic explanation, and review in daily life. I believe that having more conversations through debate classes can help remove such cultural restrictions and make our upcoming scholars to become more adaptable to exercise their freedom of expression in a thought-provoking and engaging class which is a necessity in our changing world.

The coronavirus pandemic took all the teaching methods I had employed for nearly a decade and made me quickly adapt to online teaching—something I had never done before. At my current position at Sahmyook, the first job where I had to work with 11+ other foreigners, I learned the importance of teamwork and accepting criticisms in areas I could improve as a teacher. For example, though I work well with my students, I did not know how to organize or keep track of students’ concurrent progress online, which was a necessity through Zoom since teachers could no longer meet and teach students physically in the class. A co-worker introduced to me Class Dojo, a school communication platform that helped me organize students’ achievements, scores, and other related material readily available for parents/students to view. So, you will get an adaptable and now organized teacher that is great with communicating with a team of teachers and faculty amicably. Also, you will get an experienced teacher that knows how to teach students online through Zoom simultaneously along with physical students in class giving equal opportunity for all to participate. I think this is the first time in history classes were taught both online and offline at the same time and I'm glad to be apart of this challenging teaching era. I have grown in many ways because of this unique teaching experience.
This is a tangent to my strengths, but I believe it is important to have teachers that can relate to their students because oftentimes students have a hard time relating to teachers from different nations. I have been in South Korea for over a decade now, and as an educator, I am expected to do more than just share ideas, language skills, and their applications here and abroad. I have examined the challenges that Korean students face because I have worked in many of the institutions that they attend. Since I have witnessed their stress during testing and entrance exams, I am very understanding of their sensitive nature. I am also mindful of Korean etiquette and have a working knowledge and great command of the Korean language.

To Whomever This May Concern:

I am an ideal candidate for this job position because I meet all the criteria for what it takes to work in this specific educational environment. In terms of experience, personality, and skills, I have gained all the valuable interpersonal, leadership, adaptability, and communication skills needed for this job position.

For example, as a global student ambassador for an international study abroad company called ISA, I have persistently put these skills to practice throughout my service on the job. I always seek to volunteer to make a significant contribution to the immediate community that I am a part of, thereby extending the success of any institution that I belong to. Moreover, before accepting any responsibilities, no matter how small these may be, I always take the necessary steps to prepare before accomplishing all important work or school-related matters.

Passion for any work that I pursue and persistence in my everyday mannerisms help me stay motivated and finish the goals that I set. I was trained to be a goal-oriented learner since my days as an IB Diploma high school graduate, and has continued since my university days as a 3.785 GPA student. Another example where my passion has been extended to education was towards self-studying the Korean language for three years. I will carry this “lover of knowledge” spirit with me throughout my time serving your company.

Thank you so much for your time, and I am looking forward to an interview with your company.

Beyond endeavoring to ensure that my students learn the primary subject matter of the course, my objectives as a teacher are as follows: 1) to foster language acquisition that is applicable in day to day life: 2) to encourage critical thinking; 3) to facilitate the procurement of intercultural competency in cross cultural settings; and 4) to help cultivate lovers of knowledge. What’s more, my teaching philosophy is largely based on Constructivist teaching theory as well as the following three principles: 1) active student learning sturdily influences student-learning outcomes; 2) assessment processes strongly impact student procurement of knowledge; and 3) apposite encouragement and discipline nurtures education and fortifies positive student-teacher relationships. With the aim of meeting the aforementioned standards, my courses are designed to be collaborative, differentiated, and scaffolded, with a Constructivist (learners are actively involved in learning) foundation.
