ESL Teachers

I would like to be considered for a position at your school. My desire to support children learning and growing combined with my skills in training and communication make me an ideal candidate for this role. I have experience in training in varying industries and now I am seeking this opportunity to make a career change. Working in a school and immersing into new cultures is something that I have always wanted to do and I seek experience in this field having recently completed my TEFL qualification. My tolerance, leadership ability and positive attitude are just some of the transferable skills that I have from my wide range of experience which would help me to fulfil this role. I have worked with children from a young age; as a lunchtime and after school supervisor whilst studying for my A-Levels and as a counsellor for Camp America, supporting children aged between 14 and 17 during the summer holidays. On a personal level, I spend time with my niece and nephew at the weekends, finding creative ways to help them learn new things about the world.

Camp America was a fantastic experience for me and this solidified my passion for working with children. I was responsible for the wellbeing of the children, ensuring their safety at camp and whilst on trips to Florida and Costa Rica. I independently ran activities of my own creation such as creative writing and cooking as well as organising a weekly ‘Open Mic Night’. Working at camp demonstrated I can adapt to cultural and social differences whilst working in another country and shows my ability to cope with the psychological and physical demands of caring for children, acting as a supportive and inspiring role model. Whilst working as a manager at McDonalds I was also able to refine and hone my organisational skills and demonstrate my ability to lead a team of staff, whilst supporting the larger team. I was particularly confident in diffusing difficult situations; a skill which is transferrable to dealing with behaviour and discipline in the school environment.

Through my qualifications, experience and wider interest in behaviour, I have developed a niche interest in child social and psychological development and how a child’s life can be impacted, negatively or positively by their environment. Due to this, I take the responsibility of supporting and assisting children in their learning, very seriously. I too, have been influenced by role models around me, my brother, Sean Mulhern, inspired me as he worked at the International School of Moscow for three years, originally as a Teaching Assistant before changing roles to become an Exams Officer. I believe it is important to allow children a positive place to achieve their capabilities and feel I would be an excellent addition to the team of support staff at your school.

I am driven and diligent, with excellent customer service skills and the interpersonal skills I have honed are incredibly useful in building relationships with customers, staff and all levels of management and most recently I have used these skills whilst networking. As a law student I have developed excellent written and verbal skills, culminating in my final year in my dissertation which I was awarded a first-class grade for, and was chosen to present at an academic conference.

I am a quick learner and have experience from previous roles I know I can adapt to use. I feel I would be an excellent candidate for this job, and my ambition is second only to my hard-working nature.

Volunteering in a summer camp in Thailand, to volunteering in an inner city school in Glasgow, it is clear my experiences vary with each developing and providing new skills.

Throughout school, I always enjoyed working with younger children and volunteered when living in Saudi Arabia. This exposed me to the different types of children and backgrounds and it allowed me to acknowledge these differences in a way to work with each child individually.

In returning to the United Kingdom for sixth form college, I became a sports leader. This involved organising sporting events for the local primary schools. This improved my organisation and team work. It also taught me to be flexible as certain things did not always go to plan. I was also a Netball coach for a small Primary School. This was one of the most rewarding roles I had in school as I was able to see the skills and love for sport evolve within these children. I was also a student mentor at school, helping younger students who were less able with English, Maths and Science. This was challenging as it was difficult to maintain their interest but by being approachable, enthusiastic and understanding, it made it easier.

At University, I was also a student mentor. I also volunteered at a school in inner city Glasgow which was also very rewarding. Last summer, I volunteered at a summer camp in Thailand for a week and at a school in Chiang Mai teaching English. This taught me to be flexible as there were many times when we had planned for different age groups or for different abilities and due to a lack of communication we were misinformed.

This summer coming, I am going to Italy to teach English in a summer camp. I am then going to Greece to also teach in a summer camp.

I have studied BA Drama and Theatre Arts for the past 3 years at university, so I am very confident and can think quickly on my feet. I am passionate and energetic and love helping people, so a teaching job is the perfect fit for me. I am professional and strong-willed and strive to be the best I can be and to do the best I can do in all things. I have recently completed my 120 hour TEFL course and have my certificate.

During my time teaching Korean students in the United States, I was delighted to learn of how dedicated and eager they are to learn English. I would be honored to teach in South Korea.

While completing my Certification of English Language Teaching (CELTA) with the University of Cambridge (Teaching House New York), I taught pre-intermediate and upper-intermediate English learners using a variety of techniques. I used different course books to teach integrated receptive and productive skills lessons. I clarified various language points, including grammar, vocabulary, phonology and functions. I excelled at lesson planning and building a great rapport within the classroom. Prior to my CELTA completion, I obtained my Masters of Public Administration at Baruch College, I conducted my capstone research on how mentorship can have high impact on the personal and academic achievement of young women in Brooklyn, New York. In my last position as Coordinator of Internships and Professional Development at New York City College of Technology, I was able to develop and facilitate in-classroom professional development workshops to over 400 students each semester. I am an experienced, qualified, and cheerful teacher who is enthusiastic about the English language and making learning a fun and positive experience that students look forward to.
I am certified in TEFL (a 120 hour online course) as well as registered to complete a CELTA certification by the end of June, 2018. I have worked as an English teacher and tutor in Japan, Korea and America and am very experienced at adapting to life in a culture different from my own.
I am currently a student at the University of Hawaii, graduating May 12th, 2018. I work for the University with their international students teaching English conversation part time.
Many students specifically request me as a teacher and my English classes often grow quickly and are extremely popular for the schools/programs I have taught for.
