I am a young graduate who is looking for exciting opportunities to travel and experience new cultures, specifically to countries in Asia. I have therefore completed my TEFL certificate to train me to teach English as a Foreign language in Asia, allowing me to live and work in a foreign country. I have always wished to travel to this part of the world as it is a vibrant and exciting culture so the opportunity to participate in the culture directly instead of as a tourist is utterly enthralling. Therefore, I am looking for opportunities to start around August/September 2018, in schools in Asian countries, such as Japan, South Korea, China and Hong Kong.

I have continuously been involved in teaching throughout my time at school and through University as a volunteer at a sports camp and football coaching. I am a very positive individual who continues to challenge myself and a willingness to succeed at what I put my mind to. From this I look to bring out the best in all my students and feel hugely rewarded when seeing student improvement and success.

I have recently completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Sport Science (Biomechanics) at Brunel University, obtaining a 2:1 class degree. During my time at Uni I completed a year long unpaid placement at West Ham United Football Club as part of my studies and learning. This experience allowed me to work with the academy as a coach and teacher for the U8-U18 year old players. I planned and implemented coaching plans for all these age groups to a professional standard and found this as a quality learning experience on teaching methods and how to produce effective/fun lessons.

I have recently completed my TEFL qualification 120+ Online course to help give me the knowledge on how to deliver effective English lessons to foreign students. This has led on from my practical skills whilst I was at West Ham and allows for those skills to be implemented within the classroom, including classroom discipline and creating a positive learning environment centered on student talking time.

As mentioned above, I am a keen sportsman and regularly participate in Hockey and Cricket, whilst also a regular gym goer and cyclist for regular fitness. I also enjoy gaming and social activities with friends.

Please view my CV for further details on qualifications and skills.

Tami: United States: California State University, Northridge: Sep 01, 2018

Hello, my name is Tami Lee and in 3 years, I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelor in Linguistics and TESL minor. I am interested in second language learning and I have a growing passion for the deaf community and children with speech impediments and other speech disorders. I want to teach for the rest of my life, whether it would be in a classroom or a clinic.

A successful teacher harvests the students’ receptiveness to the learning objectives. I can create a productive ESL classroom setting by catering to the multiple intelligences. Students are generally interested in topics they excel in; therefore I will create or adjust lesson plan to adapt to the students' needs.

I've worked with students for over 5 years now. I've done private tutoring for children between the ages of 4 to 13. I've helped middle school students with accent reduction. I am energetic and outgoing. I make friends quickly and I quickly adapt to new environments.

Working with you will be another step toward my long-term goal as a speech language pathologist seeking to work with Asian Americans and the deaf community. Thank you for taking the time to consider me for the available position. Please contact me when it is most convenient for you. I hope to work with you in the near future.

Sincerely, Tami Lee

I am interested in applying for the ESL teaching post recently advertised on the tefl.org.uk website.

I have experience of living in diverse cultures and countries. I have lived and worked in Switzerland and in Ghana. In Ghana, I faced the challenge of working and living in a culture quite different from my own. I was able to adapt to local circumstances, make local friends and take advantage of opportunities to have new experiences. These included new foods, new cultural festivals and making local friends. These friends were invaluable in giving me an insight into understanding different social norms and expected behaviours and to see everyday things from a different perspective. In Switzerland I feel I faced a different challenge; working in a familiar culture but using a different language. I took regular lessons to improve my French and practised in shops, travelling and meeting new friends. The improvement in my French enabled me to have more in depth conversations and to attend French cinema and theatre.

I believe my experience of working outside the UK has proven to myself that I am resilient and can embrace new opportunities. In addition to making friends amongst Ghanaians I became good friends with many of the volunteers who were also from different countries, backgrounds and ages. I was able to do this as I am supportive of people, a good listener, maintain a good sense of humour and I am open to new ideas. I am a reflective individual who will think about why a course of action has not led to the desired outcome. I think this ability to reflect on how or why things were different contributed to my enjoyment of Ghana.

I completed my 140 hour TEFL certificate last year with a view to using it as a basis for a career change. In my career to date, I have held senior positions that have required me to negotiate to get the outcomes I need. The listening, understanding and compromise that is required to do this will be useful in a new working environment with new colleagues. I am organised and have excellent planning skills. I use these in work to ensure I meet objectives. In my career I have had many opportunities to present ideas and reports to managers and the community. As a result, I am a confident public speaker. This is a skill I believe will be invaluable in the classroom. In much of my more recent work I have been responsible for training people in new working models or in IT systems. I have found having training responsibilities to be an energising and enjoyable experience. Training people has also been a fantastic opportunity to motivate people I will be working with and begin to develop relationships.

I enjoyed the weekend module of my TEFL course where we practised teaching. I found I could build on my previous experience of training to set objectives and build a plan to achieve the desired objectives. It was enjoyable and rewarding to be able to put some of the theory from the TEFL course into practice. The weekend was challenging and enjoyable and confirmed to me that teaching English as a foreign language is something I want to pursue.

Meera: United States: Aug 01, 2018

Meera: United States: Aug 01, 2018

I am a 24 year old recent graduate from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science/Biology and a minor in Chemistry.

For over 10 years, I have wanted to come to Korea so that I could understand a new culture and learn a new lan-guage. There is something about the Korean language that makes me want to listen to it all day. Yet, I never pursued my need in going to Korea. In parallel to this, I realized that I had the most rewarding feeling when I was able to help someone understand something that made no sense before. Yet, I never pursued tutoring or teaching. A while ago I went to a Toastmaster’s competition, and I heard this quote that made me look at things in a different perspective. The speaker quoted, “It’s never too late to be what you might have been”. I would love to be what I have might have been now. I would like to explore new cultures and languages now. I would like to explore my interest in teaching and helping people understand new things now. I believe that teaching English in Korea is the perfect opportunity for me to do things that I might have done. I am excited help students understand English and immerse myself in the Korean culture.

Throughout my education, I have always needed more time in understanding and grasping new concepts. I usually maintained A’s and B’s. But these grades included hours and hours of outside studying. What I began to appreciate was teachers or professors that broke things down into their fundamental pieces. When I was able to logically understand a piece of information, I could more easily apply this to solving other problems. My philosophy of teaching is revolved around students understanding the core concepts well, so that they can apply this to complex things. I am a visual learner, and so when I teach, I would like my students to see what I am doing. This would mean that not only would I say English concepts; I would like to write them out as well. It gives a student the time to stare at these new concepts and ponder, so that they can come up with more questions they may have for me. I feel lucky that understanding new things can be a bit slower for me than it can be for other people, because it gives me the opportunity to understand how to teach someone with patience. If explaining one example does not work, I want to have 5 other examples on my belt that I could use when trying to help a student understand. Ultimately, I want to teach how I would want to be taught. This means I want to teach students through auditory, kinesthetic, and visual styles. I will ensure that they can understand the fundamentals, so they can apply them to complex problems. I also want my students to be comfortable in asking me as many questions as they want.

I do realize that I do not have any teaching experience. The little experience I have is helping friends and classmates with problems that I have been able to master. I am planning on enrolling in the 170 hr TEFL course which includes a 20 hour practicum where I can observe/practice teaching. I feel that I am good at explaining things in different ways that tailors to different types of people. I go by the saying that “I will do the best I can with the tools I have”. I can ensure you, that I will do the best I can with the tools I have in teaching English to Korean students and understanding the their culture if given the opportunity to do so.

Jane Jeeeun: Korea: University of St Andrews: Jun 01, 2018

Jane Jeeeun: Korea: University of St Andrews: Jun 01, 2018

Contrary to the stereotypical image of an Asian, I never really excelled in mathematics, but oddly enough I never felt ashamed of it. Instead, I've always enjoyed writing and editing my works whether I was in France or in English-speaking countries. Eventually my passion for words led the way for me to be consistently ranked on the honours' list. This was a quite a change for many Asian students in each of my respective schools and I'm proud to say that I led the change.

After graduating from university, while being employed in the field of editing, I was fortunate to have been asked to edit English research proposals from university professors and, U.N reports and governmental posters for a top-ranking university's geography department.

For as long as I can remember, empathy has been a virtue I've been holding onto dearly. It's an essential trait to make use of, especially in our respective society where social interactions are inevitable. Accordingly, I can say with confidence that empathizing with people and creating as well as maintaining a comfortable communication lane is one of my fortes.

I am planning to start my postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) this coming September and it would be a great opportunity to be part of a team that strives to enlighten those whose main desire is to join a fine academic future.

Na Yeon: United States: UCLA: Jun 01, 2018

Na Yeon: United States: UCLA: Jun 01, 2018

I am a recent graduate from UCLA, with a major in Fine Arts and minor in Film, TV, and Digital Media and am looking for a work environment where I can utilize my interest in education. Having grown up going to many different test prep centers and being a tutor myself, I realize the importance of being a good educator and what kind of difference it can bring to students' lives.

Working as the Social Media Coordinator for UCLA Grand Challenges, I worked primarily with creating original content for our partners in mental health in partnership with notable celebrities such as Metta World Peace and Glenn Close. As the Grand Challenges branch of UCLA was relatively new, I often wrestled with creating new efficient brand strategies that would convey the message of our brand and increase awareness to our growing audience. During my year at Grand Challenges, we saw a growth of 160% in our number of followers and a significant increase in our engagement as we participated in different media campaigns. This was an extremely fast-paced environment as we were trying to expand our growth as quickly as possible and in order to be successful, we had to constantly be shifting with the trends. From this position, I was able to hone in on my ability to think quickly and react accordingly as well as stretch my breadth of responsibility.

With my experience, I believe that I would be a good asset to GLOII, as well as being proficient and familiar with the skills and experience needed for students as well as the university process itself to be accepted to high-ranking colleges in the US.
