Lauren: United States: University of Virginia: May 21, 2018

I am currently a sophomore studying Foreign Affairs and East Asian Studies at the University of Virginia. These two majors are heavily writing oriented, so I have a significant amount of experience in critical writing and reading. Therefore, I am applying to tutor in critical reading, writing, AP Language and AP Literature. In the past, I have had experience teaching English to Korean elementary students, and I currently tutor two Korean international students here in Charlottesville, Virginia as a part time job.
From 2015-2016, I studied in South Korea as a high schooler. Through my experience abroad, I came to understand how hard it is to learn a foreign language. Through my struggles making linguistic and cultural mistakes, I developed a passion for those who are studying foreign languages. This experience made me a much more outgoing person, and I strive very hard to make my students feel very comfortable, and also to make them feel as though they are free to make mistakes. I believe this is a very healthy outlook on teaching, as it promotes confidence and the willingness to improve in my students.
