Maggie: United States: University of Chicago: Aug 20, 2018

I am currently a student at the University of Chicago, studying Anthropology and Germanic Studies. I chose these fields because of my lifelong love for learning about different cultures and learning new languages. In addition to my studies in Chicago, in the course of my college years I also lived, worked, and studied in six other cities, four of which were outside the United States. After my graduation in June I would love to continue travelling, meeting new people, learning new languages, and encountering new cultures.
I am interested in this position because I am looking to do more than just teach English. As a top tier humanities student at one of the world’s best colleges, I believe I am well equipped to lead an engaging and productive elite prep classroom. As a high scorer myself, I would like to help other have the opportunity I had to attend a top tier American college.
I have extensive experience teaching children and teenagers and experience thinking on my feet through my experience as a health advocacy workshop leader. I believe that through working as an AP teacher I could put my passion for intercultural exchange to good use, while inspiring and instructing the global leaders of the future.

I’m writing to express my interest in the TOEFL,SAT,AP instructor position listed on Hunjang-Maeul Job Searches. I was excited to read about the job opening as I love working with students. I am a Korean student pursuing a PhD degree in English literature at the University of Kansas, USA. I have several years of teaching experience. I taught English 101 (Composition) in Fall 2016 and, I’ve been teaching ENG 102 since Spring 2017 here at KU. I got good reviews for the courses I taught as all the five areas (Teaching and Presentation Ability, Quality of Work, Oral and Written Communication, Accountability and Self-Management, and Subject Knowledge and Learning Ability) were evaluated as “exceeds expectations” in 2016-17 Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Evaluation. Before coming to KU, I worked as a private tutor in Korea and taught English to high school students to help them prepare for the English subject in Korean college entrance examination. Also, I taught college students to help them prepare for TOEFL, TEPS, TOEIC tests. I work well with students, and I am confident that I can help them learn critical reading and writing and improve their SAT, TOEFL, AP scores. Thank you so much for considering me for the position.

Cordially,
Jimin Choi

I am a Korean American finishing my last year of school at UCLA, majoring in applied mathematics with a specialization in computing. I am also a recipient of the prestigious Regents Scholarship from UCLA, which is awarded to only the top 1.5% of UCLA students.

As a math teacher, I hope to share my passion for math with my students, and make them excited to learn math. I know that in my life, the teachers who were passionate about their subject made me excited to learn.

Although I grew up speaking only English at home, in the last few years I made an effort to learn Korean. I took a year-long course in Korean at UCLA during the 2016-2017 school year, and I got the amazing opportunity to study at Yonsei University in the summer of 2017. By the end of my time at Yonsei, I felt comfortable enough to get around Seoul speaking only Korean. I am excited to return to Korea to improve my Korean skills, and also learn more about Korean culture.

I do believe my time studying at Yonsei will help me relate to Korean students. I did many things that young Koreans like to do for fun, like going to PC Bangs (PC방), Noraebangs (노래방), and arcades (오락실).

Over my time at the high school, I had various opportunities to develop my leadership and organization abilities. I maintained a 4.0 GPA while being involved in many extra-curricular activities, tutoring, and taking eight Advanced Placement Classes. Balancing all of these different obligations has helped me develop greater time-management skills. Specifically, tutoring, and my work in National Honors Society and Knowledge Bowl have helped me gain greater communication and organization skills.
I began tutoring my freshman year, and I was able to help a senior struggling in Algebra II graduate. Since then, I have tutored over fifteen students, accumulating more than 300 community service hours. Over time, I noticed that there was particular demand for SAT and ACT tutoring, so I organized my own curriculum and lesson plans for students, as while as personalizing to each individual’s needs. This summer, I am coordinating with the Anacortes School District to teach a SAT Class for a small group of high school students. Tutoring has helped me learn how to communicate with a various amounts of people.
In college, I continued working in education, serving as a volunteer tutor for students studying AP Calculus at a local high school, and working as an education intern and tutor for Middle Tree Academy, where I organized the standardized test preparation curriculum there. Now, I serve as a mentor for the mathematics and physics department, teaching introductory level physics and Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus.
I have extensive experience with these subjects, am enthusiastic, patient, flexible, and accountable, and am happy to work with all students.

Prisca: Canada: University of Toronto: Sep 01, 2018

My name is Prisca Choi and I am a creative, enthusiastic and passionate teacher currently teaching in Jeollabuk-do, South Korea. I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master’s in Arts, specializing in Japanese and Korean colonial history. I am also well versed in world history, visual arts, music and classical Latin. I am interested in teaching at an international institution to expand my current teaching experience. Since arriving in Korea, I have had the opportunity to work with middle school students in rural areas. I am now looking to teaching younger students in a city location so I can interact with a wider range of students from varying social backgrounds.

In South Korea, I mainly teach middle school grades at Namwon Middle School and Unbong Middle School. Once a week at Dotong Elementary School, I teach the fifth grade. In the winter season, I taught sixth grade at Gyorong Elementary School. This year I have had the opportunity to run an advanced English club with third grade students at Namwon Middle School. My classes incorporate newspaper articles and multicultural topics that allow students to apply their critical thinking and English skills to real life topics. I have some previous experience in Canada teaching classical Latin at a university level and I worked as a private tutor with adult students specifically on English pronunciation and fluency. I think my personal language learning experience helps relate to students' English frustrations. Furthermore, my exchange abroad and other travel experiences will help me be more empathetic to cultural differences.

A summary of my professional achievements, education and other proficient languages will be found on my resume as well as details regarding my own freelance photography and media work. Thank you for taking time to consider my application and please do not hesitate to call, email or Skype me if you have any further questions.

Tyler: United States: University of California, Los Angeles: Oct 15, 2018

Academically, I have excelled over the years, and I believe I have the right skills to help students currently navigating through the intricate web of the college process. As a high school senior, I scored a near perfect score on the ACT, earning a 35. In my undergraduate studies at UCLA, I have managed to earn my four year degree in only three years while keeping a high GPA that earned me Magna Cum Laude Honors, as well as taking advanced classes that earned me UCLA College Honors.
Through UCLA, I have experience living in Korea. I was awarded as a Korea University Undergraduate Fellow. Last summer UCLA funded my studies, and I lived in Anam, Seoul, and attended Korea University. I adapted to the culture quite easily and am eager to return to practice my Korean language skills and to reconnect with many of my Korean friends.
I believe I would excel in this type of position because not only do I have the academic merit to teach these at times advanced courses, but because I also have work experience that has fostered my interpersonal relations. Working as both a Spanish tutor and a Customer Service Representative as Whole Foods Market has prepared me to deal with people in a calm and mature manner. My familiarity with the college process with help ease the nerves of students caught up in dealing with competitive American Universities. Just as these students are preparing to take the next step in their academic careers, after this next year I plan on taking mine and continuing on the Graduate School. I plan to take the GRE in October before my period of availability and will also be able to offer insight on this process.

My professional endeavors have enhanced my creative problem-solving and interpersonal skills. As a VISAS language consultant, I helped international students improve their conversational English language skills. To work through miscommunications and misunderstandings, I worked together with my students to develop creative communication skills, thus enhancing my social communication skills, as well as my collaborative skills. Additionally, for many of my internships, I was often tasked with research assignments. When the answers to my questions were not easily found, I took the initiative to cold-call companies and interview people directly. This highlights my self-motivation, as well as my determination to excel at the task at hand. I believe that my determination and my creativity will be an asset to GLOII and advantageous creating a positive and effective learning environment.

My academic interests will also be beneficial in this role. I have taken a diverse set of classes, ranging from Comparative Politics to World War II History, as well as several psychology courses. I believe I am well equipped and well experienced to teach these broad academic subjects effectively and clearly. Not only am I well-versed in these subjects, I am also highly interested in these topics, which will make teaching both easier and better, for myself and for the students. Furthermore, as an intern for Office of Surface Mining and Reclamation, a bureau in the United States Department of the Interior, I was immersed in not only the current state the U.S politics and the U.S government but also the history of the government. I believe this experience will be beneficial when teaching students topics regarding the United States government, as well as United States history.

Lastly, I have tutoring experience in reading, writing, and math. Though they were for a younger group of students, I believe I can take the skills and experiences gained from tutoring elementary students and use them to become a better and more effective teacher to older students.
Lastly, I have experience tutoring young elementary students in reading, writing, and math. Though students taking AP and SAT preparation classes would be older, I believe I can take the skills and experiences gains from teaching younger students and use them to become an effective teacher for older students as well.

Jinnie: United States: University of Chicago: Jul 02, 2018

As stated above, I have a great deal of tutoring experience, having worked with students of a variety of ages on a fairly diverse array of subjects. I think I am particularly well qualified to teach AP and SAT subjects, as I graduated high school as a National AP Scholar, National Merit Scholar, and Valedictorian of my 790-person class. In addition, however, I believe that my non-teaching experience has given me a wealth of transferable skills that make me an even better fit for this job.

As Campus Coordinator for Adam Block Design, a custom apparel company geared towards college students in Greek life, I have not only learned how to hold a customer’s interest and make sales; I have learned how to speak to a client in order to win and maintain their trust, how to build relationships, and how to communicate effectively both in person and over email. I have learned how to explain complicated processes, how to balance tenacity and flexibility, and how to deal with an angry customer. I often navigate several different orders at a time, and a fast response time is crucial in such a competitive business, so I have learned how to succeed within a demanding structure. I also work as a Digitization Assistant in UChicago’s very notable Special Collections Research Center, where I have refined a strict attention to detail and organization. I have become very talented at multitasking, balancing both of these jobs on top of the rigor of a UChicago education and participation in various campus activities. I am a very active member of Pi Beta Phi, for instance having been Show Planning Chair for Arrowfest, our annual philanthropy event by which we raise around $20,000 a year for literacy nonprofits, two years in a row. I am also a member of the University Disciplinary Committee, which has been a very important resource for experience in conflict management, informational analysis, and communication.

I consider myself to be a responsible, dedicated, and efficient person. I am also fluent in Korean, though I always welcome the opportunity to improve, and by way of my summer internship at NCSOFT, am familiar with Korean working culture. I am generally good with technology, have coding experience (acquired by taking four rigorous classes in the Computer Science department at UChicago), and above all, am a fast and eager learner.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yanira: United States: Rockhurst university: Aug 08, 2018

Dear to whom it may concern,

My name is Yanira Reyes, an American, I’m 26 years old and currently teaching Spanish at a high school. I have been working at Shawnee Mission School District since 2015. I have also taught English abroad in South Korea for a year. After having taught in Korea I knew I wanted to keep teaching and decided to obtain my masters. I have a Master’s in Education and a certification in TEFL from the United States.

My experiences have mold me to become the teacher I am now. My students are the ones who keep molding me to become the best version of myself. Just like my students push me to be better each day, I also empower my students to be themselves and to follow their passion. I constantly try to get involved with the community and see how my lesson plans can extend into the events in the community. For I believe my students will succeed if I make my assignment more meaningful, relevant, and fun.

Some of the assignment I have created have gotten my students rewards and recognitions:

• Creating your ideal business idea (Bizfest in Kansas City – 2nd place)
• Creating a social justice video for a film festival (Central Missouri University)
• Writing a poem about a theme “It starts with me” (Kansas State PTO – 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and this year possibly state)
• Creating a painting using the same style of a Hispanic artist or being influence by the Hispanic community. (Got to display their art work at first Friday downtown KC)
• Write an essay in Spanish for a scholarship… have only had one winner for this.

There are more events I would like my students to get involved, but at the moment these are events I have been successfully to have my students partake. I also take my top students, who have shown great leadership attributes, to leadership conferences. I believe if I ask my students to be great leaders I have the responsibility to give them tools to do so.

Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,

Yanira Reyes
