SAT/AP Teachers

I recently graduated in May 2018 with a BSc in Earth Science from Rice University, currently ranked as the 14th best college in the United States. Since December 2017, I have been working as an SAT tutor for Catalyst Prep in the Houston, Texas area. I am in charge of running two-day, intensive courses to help students review relevant topics, hone their test-taking skills, and understand what to expect on the SAT. Since I have been teaching the same subjects that this job focuses on and working with students in the same target age group, I am well-prepared to provide SAT prep services to students who are applying to American universities.

My greatest strength is that I am an empathetic person who is skilled at relating to people and making them feel heard. During my time as an SAT tutor, many of my students have been frustrated, bored, or simply do not understand why their parents are asking them to enroll in these classes. I always strive to understand my students rather than dismissing their concerns, and I believe that I have learned a lot by listening to them. It is exciting when students come up to me after class and thank me personally; I like knowing my students feel like they have a voice in my classroom.

There are several skills I possess that are relevant an SAT teaching position. First, thanks to my earth science background and experience in research, I am well-versed in problem solving, critical thinking, and explaining difficult concepts in layman terms. Second, I am a strong writer with a good grasp of the English language who has experience editing essays written by college students and professors alike. Third, I am multilingual which demonstrates my potential to expand my language skills if necessary for this position.

I am interested in teaching math or science through the medium of English.
My undergraduate education emcomposses in depth learning of several scientific disciplines and math, which allows me to teach a broad range of subjects and adequately instruct on concepts that overlap across disciplines. Furthermore, my graduate degree in secondary education empowers my ability to disseminate knowledge to students. In particular, I have abundant experience in teaching non-calculus physics and precalculus that can be put to immediate use.
I also have extensive experience with EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students and am familiar with effective instructional strategies that can enhance both subject knowledge and English ability.
I am committed to education in which students take ownership of their learning, in which they actively learn because they recognize the need for that knowledge. I strive to invoke this quality in students so that they may be successful even after they leave the classroom. For such students, I am prepared to commit to lifelong learning myself, so that my students may experience better education.

I majored in English at Queen Mary University of London, UK, and worked as an education and business writer for QS, an internationally recognised university rankings company, before gaining my TEFL qualification and moving to teach in Taiwan. One-on-one tutoring is without doubt my strongest suit, my favourite classes being when my students can debate on current affairs and discuss topics which excite them. In my personal life, I am a creative – I love to write and have recently finished writing a comedy screenplay for TV.

Due to my previous experience within academia in the corporate world, I am also skilled in business conversation and academic/university/study abroad mentoring.

I have a Bachelor of Journalism (social studies/humanities minor) from James Cook University in Townsville, North Queensland, Australia and spent 9 months after completing my TEFL course in a full-time position teaching English language (Social studies focus) at Wachirawit Private High School in Chiang Mai Thailand. I moved to Vietnam in 2015 and have been living here since then, teaching a range of ages and abilities, from 3-35 year olds and from toddlers to working professionals in both the public and private sectors.

A positive and motivated teacher, I am committed to providing students with a dynamic and interesting learning environment in which they can grow and develop. I am familiar with employing the use of technology whilst teaching in the 21st century classroom, and I thrive on keeping on top of the latest resources and developments within the teaching industry. I seek to encourage students to enjoy extra-curricular activities and study groups, which I believe instils them with a self-directed lifelong learning..

To give you an indication of what to expect, an average week for me consists of 19-22 contact hours of teaching per week, mostly students aged 13-18, who are producing the language at a range from false beginner up to the intermediate level.

Hello, my name is Tami Lee and in 3 years, I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelor in Linguistics and TESL minor. I am interested in second language learning and I have a growing passion for the deaf community and children with speech impediments and other speech disorders. I want to teach for the rest of my life, whether it would be in a classroom or a clinic.

A successful teacher harvests the students’ receptiveness to the learning objectives. I can create a productive ESL classroom setting by catering to the multiple intelligences. Students are generally interested in topics they excel in; therefore I will create or adjust lesson plan to adapt to the students' needs.

I've worked with students for over 5 years now. I've done private tutoring for children between the ages of 4 to 13. I've helped middle school students with accent reduction. I am energetic and outgoing. I make friends quickly and I quickly adapt to new environments.

Contrary to the stereotypical image of an Asian, I never really excelled in mathematics, but oddly enough I never felt ashamed of it. Instead, I've always enjoyed writing and editing my works whether I was in France or in English-speaking countries. Eventually my passion for words led the way for me to be consistently ranked on the honours' list. This was a quite a change for many Asian students in each of my respective schools and I'm proud to say that I led the change.

After graduating from university, while being employed in the field of editing, I was fortunate to have been asked to edit English research proposals from university professors and, U.N reports and governmental posters for a top-ranking university's geography department.

For as long as I can remember, empathy has been a virtue I've been holding onto dearly. It's an essential trait to make use of, especially in our respective society where social interactions are inevitable. Accordingly, I can say with confidence that empathizing with people and creating as well as maintaining a comfortable communication lane is one of my fortes.

I am planning to start my postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) this coming September and it would be a great opportunity to be part of a team that strives to enlighten those whose main desire is to join a fine academic future.

I am a recent graduate from UCLA, with a major in Fine Arts and minor in Film, TV, and Digital Media and am looking for a work environment where I can utilize my interest in education. Having grown up going to many different test prep centers and being a tutor myself, I realize the importance of being a good educator and what kind of difference it can bring to students' lives.

Working as the Social Media Coordinator for UCLA Grand Challenges, I worked primarily with creating original content for our partners in mental health in partnership with notable celebrities such as Metta World Peace and Glenn Close. As the Grand Challenges branch of UCLA was relatively new, I often wrestled with creating new efficient brand strategies that would convey the message of our brand and increase awareness to our growing audience. During my year at Grand Challenges, we saw a growth of 160% in our number of followers and a significant increase in our engagement as we participated in different media campaigns. This was an extremely fast-paced environment as we were trying to expand our growth as quickly as possible and in order to be successful, we had to constantly be shifting with the trends. From this position, I was able to hone in on my ability to think quickly and react accordingly as well as stretch my breadth of responsibility.

With my experience, I believe that I would be a good asset to GLOII, as well as being proficient and familiar with the skills and experience needed for students as well as the university process itself to be accepted to high-ranking colleges in the US.

It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my resume to GLOII. I feel my experience, qualifications, and eagerness to learn new things will make me an excellent match for this position. From my time studying English at Western Michigan University to earning a 150 hour TESOL Certificate, and multiple writing positions in between, I feel everything has been leading up to a marvelous position such as this.

I am originally from the United States, but in 2013 my wife and I moved to Geoje island and where I worked as a Writing Teacher at Baverstock English School teaching students of all age ranges from first grade all the way up to adults. Though it was challenging at times, it was a tremendously rewarding experience to work with such vastly different learners to determine which age range I felt I could best guide to English proficiency. I put these skills to use in my next teaching position at Gwangyang Jecheol Elementary School and later at Myongji Elementary School here in Seoul. After years of working with elementary students, I am ready to make the transition back into working with older students as I have previously in Geoje and as a Teaching Assistant at Western Michigan University.

Shortly after arriving in Gwangyang, I started the website K League United to offer more English language coverage of the K League. What started as me covering my local team has grown to a staff of 20 volunteer writers that I oversee as Editor in Chief. Our coverage includes writing news pieces, match previews, player interviews, and more. Working with the vastly different perspectives of 20 writers spanning the globe has been a unique challenge, but one that I have been able to use to create and maintain Editorial style, standards, and structure to implement them sitewide. An Editorial style I am happy to say has drawn the attention of the K League itself, who we now regularly work with to publish articles on KLeague.com.

In both of my roles as teacher and Editor, I have honed my skills in people management, administering curriculum, and presenting materials to various levels of learners. In the classroom and while editing fellow native speaker’s writing, I have learned how to help high level and low level writers in equal measure with targeted feedback and working more closely on an individual basis with lower level writers.

I hope to further my career as an educator and believe this position will be an immensely fulfilling opportunity to continue that goal. I truly love teaching, love working with students of all abilities, and look forward to the challenge of teaching in a more focused manner.

I have lived in the United States for over 10 years and have attended a foreign school in Korea for high school. Furthermore, I have finished college and will be attending a PhD program at Dartmouth this fall. From this, I have experienced the US curriculum, undergraduate application process, US college system, and the US graduate school application process. Because I have experienced all of the things that a student who is preparing for college in the US will experience, I can provide advice and more than sufficient training to these students. I believe that I can use the breadth of my experience to students who need them. Apart from having the experience of studying abroad, I have also taught students at other academies before. I developed my own curriculum and taught students for math and English.

In all of the previous jobs that I have had, I put my 100% effort and time. For example, in the research assistant jobs that I have had, my time and effort led me to present in regional and international conferences. Moreover, it led me to receive awards from the Dean of Weissman School of Arts & Sciences at my current college, from the Genetics Society of America and from my current bachelor's degree program.

I believe that my personal and teaching experiences will allow me to fully help students preparing to study abroad in the US for college.
